Luigi301
Gah, my camera's broken How can I tell if it's a Heavy or a Light?
Wester
The pic that russell56443 posted above is a heavy, while the one izzy posted would be considered light. Look at the plastick molding on the bottom, on a heavy it is much thicker and rounded where it goes up the sides on the front of the console. Luigi301
Aha, got it. The side molding on izzy's goes from horizontal to vertical at a very tight angle. russell's goes up gradually. The side molding on mine goes up to 90 degrees at a gradual angle. Also, the rear marks on mine (LEFT CONTROLLER, etc) don't match up to izzy's, they're molded into the plastic instead of printed on it. Also, I've got speaker grilles, and no channel select switch. Based on that, I'd say I beat everyone in their Tele-Games oldness with an R-suffixed unit. Edited November 23, 2005 by Luigi301
Wester
Sounds right. This being the first "R" I would still love to have a pic just so I can download it and have proof on hand.

Laner
here are my two heavy sixers: 80472F (no channel select hole) 16829N
Luigi301
I'm going to pop the thing open to see if I can find a date or lot number. Is there anything I should watch out for so I don't break it, or is it a simple unscrew-and-pull like the 7800?
Luigi301
I tore it open, and confirmed it was a Heavy Sixer. The switch panel board had "Atari: Intelligent Design" and "Rev B" silkscreened onto it. The main PCB, surrounded by thick shielding, had © 1977 silkscreened, along with three sets of initials. I guess that'd make it a 1977 model, one of the first few lots?
A.J. Franzman
I tore it open, and confirmed it was a Heavy Sixer. 972240[/snapback] That wasn't necessary; your photos above already confirm it! Someone would have said something if you called it a heavy sixer and your photo showed otherwise.
Wester
Thanks for the confirmation though. I appreciate it. Also the Lot number that was found on another Heavy was under the aluminum shielding, did you happen to look there? Laner, thanks for the posting. Luigi301
Where do you mean, on the inside of the shield itself or on the PCB? I didn't see a lot number on the board.
Wester
It was on the PCB under the RF shield.
Luigi301
I didn't see a lot number on the PCB, just a sticker with an alphanumeric sequence on it. The same sticker was on the switch panel board and RF shield itself.
Christophero Sly
#80252 izzy (posted from Ebay auction) I believe this one is PAL. It was in a U.K. auction and the formating follows the other PAL console S/N's.

G.Whiz
Wow, thought I chucked it out, but just found it getting stuff ready for a move... Anyway, mine's a Sunnyvale Heavy Sixer S/N 67588G. Also, in case anyone is tracking such things, it was bought at Eaton's in Canada (and I always thought my Dad got it in the States...) Got it for Christmas '77, though I don't know exactly when it was bought. ~G
