decle
Fired by the white hot energy of a new ROM dumper I have re-scanned my cartridge collection and turned up something a little interesting, what I think might be a new minor ROM variation. As has been noted elsewhere, a version of Slap Shot exists that is not Intellivision II compatible. I'm not sure how "Superstar, Designer, Programmer" Ray Kaestner could have made this mistake in 1986/7, but he did. Anyway, I have two different variants of this incompatible version of the game in my collection. In the first, when the goalie falls down he more or less disappears (watch the blue goalie, click to animate if required): In the second, when the goalie falls down he normally turns into mush, and sometimes falls on his face or stands on his head: I have confirmed both ROMs by playing the cartridges on a PAL Intellivision and these behaviours are seen on real hardware. For those that are interested, MD5 hashes of the bin files are:* 681c3bb87a878cdba7e8e214b7bab6eb - Vanishing goalie* b15bb2444c5719fd4bdee7133862dc23 - Face plant goalie Neither of these versions are found on Intellivision Lives or Rocks where, firstly you can play on the Intellivision II, and secondly the goalie falls on his backside like the other players: The bin file of this version has an MD5 hash of 5ec328d358ff8c9664e4ab1deaa89f80These graphical glitches are the only differences between the three versions and are caused by errors in the graphics card definitions. If you have a cartridge copy of Slap Shot where the goalie falls on his backside like the version on Intellivision Lives, or exhibits other behaviours, I'd be interested in talking to you

mr_me
Similar to Super Pro Football, the cartridge dump is different than what's found on an Intellivision Lives CD. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/264648-super-pro-football-rom-variants/ So all three Slap Shot variants would have identical gameplay bugs other than the goalie graphics? There must be other changes since the Intellivision Lives version plays on Intellivision II. In that yahoo group link, someone reported a cartridge version that is Intellivision II compatible. They couldn't have manufactured that many cartridges yet they have three variations!
