Budget Atari and Capcom arcade cabinets to see release this fall!

Recommended Posts

Considering selling my Atari Legacy Tempest machine, complete with Riser, assembled, Cedar Rapids Iowa area, wouldn't ask a ton for it, played only a few times due to lack of gaming time.

Pics shall be posted if there's any interest.  Thinking $270 (looks like it's currently $450 at Best Buy).

Let me know if interested, trying here first before hitting the Marketplace / BuySellTrade forum.

Also holy sh1t, Terminator is $299....oh that's tempting.  But...one game?? Don't know if I can justify the space for that...

The neg1cade, good luck trying to put up a high score on the main games.

also, after a year, finally got my blasteroids arcade fixed, the monitor needed to be recapped,

got a local company that repairs them...

(not shown, 3 more partycades, and 2 countercades, and pong tabletop)

I got one on Black Friday. Usual terrible build quality. For me, the biggest issues were the wooden dowels didn't stabilize certain pieces it was supposed to and of course the usual dust and other debris behind the plexiglass. I still have one annoying spot behind the plexiglass, but now that it's built, there's not much I can do to get it out. I also wasn't able to connect to my wi-fi network because out of the box, the virtual keyboard didn't have a dash. I had to connect to the hotspot on my phone, download the update, then the virtual keyboard added in the dash (albeit several pages in).

The games themselves are pretty good, as is the wheel, particularly after using the configuration options available after the update. I'm hoping that Buy Stuff Store in Canada eventually releases the box they said they would that will essentially be plug and play to add a bunch of other racing games. I also ordered some pedal covers off of Amazon that should make the gas and brake pedals a bit more substantial.

I was wondering if there was a drop-in upgrade path--good to know where to look. 👍 I also have an ebay search for outrun a1up boards--I'd be shocked if those didn't drop right in for more games.

For upgrades, I picked up the screw covers, and grommet/screw upgrade for that plexi panel. I was thinking of gluing at least some of those dowels, but I've never built one so I don't know how much of this cab has to come apart to get back inside. Youtube reviews all complain about the audio, so I also picked up a (usb soundcard) that's supposed to help--I guess I'll have to see on that one. and here's hoping for an underscore on that virtual keyboard, or I'm not getting wifi either--unless maybe a usb keyboard works.

Ooh if I had the room that would be the one of those sit downs of those I'd get, the ridge racer stuff at the arcade level is pretty nice.  I remember probably 20 years ago when someone first figured out how to emulate ridge and rage racer in a windows emulator and it was a blast, even stuck on a keyboard.  I'm sure there's no good emulator for it anymore other than the bs you're forced to put up with using mame unfortunately unless you have the skill to make a micro-build of just what you need.

super pac-man finally hit 1 million plus, with 3 men default (+2 bonus):

Arcade 1up Game : Super Pac Man Score : 1.12 Million - Settings : 3men+2 bonus Machine : Dig dug machine Levels : 2 - 100 THE ONE time i forget to start recording from the beginning. 3 weeks of playing hundreds of times, 40 years later, FINALLY got past 1 million with 3 men+2 bonus, got through 40 levels perfect without dying. Although messed up a bunch of patterns. The cake, and mushrooms are the hardest.

I successfully completed the hardest parts of A1UP Ridge Racer Ownership:

  1. I constructed the cabinet without getting divorced. We haven't done the riser yet (and I'm not pushing it...)
  2. I also entered my wifi password, which took 20+ minutes on the world's laggiest virtual keyboard, and I also completed the similarly miserable high score registration.

Quick impressions:

  • monitor is pretty nice. I like it. Best part.
  • menu controls are obviously laggy. it's possible the games are too, but it's actually really easy to mentally tune out even substantial lag in racing games. It does feel like the cars are less responsive than on ps1, but console RR games offer cars with varying stats, and I always pick Grippy McNo-Drift.
  • the audio everybody complains about is actually decent--pretty much on par with the 'quality downscale' of the rest of it. but it'd certainly be the cheapest place for them to boost quality with just a woofer in there somewhere.
  • One of my pieces had the peg holes too short, but I caught the 'overpenetration' before it popped through.
  • My box took at least 1d4 of piercing damage that is reflected on the bottom of the control panel cover. It's buried inside the cab, but I know it's there 😓
  • The skill ceiling of these games is intact, and the controls pretty much offer the level of precision required.
  • The centering spring force on the wheel is tight and has to be compensated for with muscle when it crosses center, or you will lose. FFB wheels handle that better.
  • that accelerator is audibly annoying, its bottom edge is getting taped or velcroed down tomorrow.
  • best part: online leaderboards.  Those A1UP dads actually put up a fair showing! I was tremendously gladdened when my first handful of runs/wins at ridge racer's novice track did not land me in the top 100 (it doesn't say how far down I am, but I'm 6sec off the winning pace!)

Is it better than the arcade? I've never touched a namco racing cab, but can confidently say it's not near arcade quality.

Is it better than PS1+Negcon? about on par. Negcon offers more precision, but the quality of the arcade visuals are a nice upgrade. Wifi leaderboards feel less lonely than racing the time trial car.

I haven't done the riser, so the size comparison is a little unfair:

My son is a big bball fan...I saw the NBA Jam countercade was less than even last year (not lowest ever but 130 is decent) and couldn't resist. That'll get a ton of play Xmas day (and hopefully after).

Wish the other ones would go under $150 again. I'd bite on Marvel Superheroes. You'd have to give me Mortal Kombat....but then again I really don't care much for Mortal Kombat.

I got these pedal covers, which solve that problem. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1256565862/arcade1up-pedal-covers-for-ridge-racer

They slip over the existing pedals. It takes a bit of finagling because they're not really custom-made for this purpose, they just happen to fit. But once you get them in place they completely silence that worrisome cheap plasticky noisiness.

Note: Some people have said that you can find the exact same pedals for about half the price on Amazon, but I haven't found them there.

Took me about 2 hours to put my Rideg Racer cabinet together.  I did it solo but you really need 2 people for a few steps.  Way over complicated for what you end up with IMHO.  Anyhow, I think they did a good job with the end product.  The pedals aare the only area that coul duse som enhancement but the steering wheel with feedback is pretty good.

I find it interesting that all these games only had 5 laps max - I guess they were designed to eat quarters but some of the tracks are just 3 laps.

like (these) $20 ones. I'll try them out. That etsy seller has a real racket going on.

I'm not sure that's going to fully solve the problem. part of the issue is that style of accelerator pedal hinges at the bottom and a1up opted not to do that for 'reasons and things.'

I've seen the insides of the pedals in (this) repair video--no way his bodge is holding up, IMO... But the potentiometers seem to be in a pretty standard form factor/size, so the electronics should all be able to just lift out and transplant into a better pedal set. (I may do that)

Look whats out, the pro series.

so its almost full circle.

people wanted smaller 3/4 scale, and complained about part of it.

the controls, the screen, the sound, the size.

so with the XL and PRO they went fuller sized:

though I'm not a KI person, I LOVE that they've got SuzoHapp for this.  That's a huge plus point.  I like Sanwa too, but prefer SuzoHapp generally, very American Arcade feel.

People are already complaining about the potential 17" screen, and frankly, I don't blame them. Hopefully they can go bigger this time.

I'd love to get Ridge Racer but haven't the room, and the price is still up a bit for my taste.

I remember like 20 years ago someone created a RR emulator for Windows that worked amazing, ran RR and Rage too and I put some time on that.  Shame that emulator is long gone, and MAME is such an unholy pig utterly bloated, because I can't code or even compile for shit as I'd recreate that simple series of titles to play.  Maybe someday they'll (doubt it due to wheel/pedals) do a quarter sized one or something a bit easier to tuck away.

I am enjoying the NBA Jam countercade I got for Xmas....playing a lot of NBA Hangtime. Having a lot of fun building up my character. Surprising how much this little RPG-ish feature adds for me. I keep wanting to go back.

Time Crisis is a hard no....In the age of Sinden guns etc,  those games (ANY gun games for that matter) should just be fancy camera guns, a bluetooth pedal, and a HDMI software dongle, working on ANY size tv.

Hmm... on the one hand, it goes against what they had previously publicly stated, namely that future cabs will continue to have an increasing number of games. On the other hand, if they can move 'em, why the hell not? (Especially if this is what it takes to get to an After Burner cab!) Having said all that, let the nitpicking begin: Actual Pac-Man cabs, if you look very closely, have a fine spray of tiny blue paint-spatter dots on the side panels. Since these A1up side panels are just huge printed adhesive sheets, it should be no problem to finally get that detail correct. And aside from that, overall the side art looks slightly under-sized.
