See if this works. I hope you can get A7800 working, since it's more accurate. Also, I don't think this hack will work for RatTrap, since it uses the SNES controllers.

It works! Thanks! Great game, very close to the arcade!

Sorry for the mistake. That's the risk of changing the Settings menu. It's pretty convoluted. I **THINK** I got the bug.

After playing a long game, I returned to the SETTINGS menu, and invincible was stuck on.

I have verified the "PentaGoTall_DEMO_04-22-23.a78" & "PentaGo_DEMO_04-22-23.a78" files work (Settings and Behavior/Buttons/Pausing) as expected under A7800 emulator, Concerto, and MiSTer FPGA.

Thank you @Trebor!!! :) It seemed to work fine for me, but it's hard to really pinpoint once I've had my head in it for too long. :)

--- Good morning. I guess I didn't send this last night, as it was still in my send. LOL! (I think I went to the main thread to comment there, and left this here; but if I didn't, thanks!)

General Pengo information. It was really weighing on my mind that @ZeroPage Homebrew always asks why Pento (Pengo) is "banging his head against the desk" in the intermissions. It was on my mind that I may have drawn my martini glass a little off from the arcade.

Having reviewed the arcade version, I think the martini glass resembles a desk in the arcade also. With that, I do not feel as badly (as if it's my fault).

However, viewing the final intermission, where Pengo emerges (assumed drunken) from the martini glass, may put more context into the scene. LOL

Also, in this video, I looped back from level 16 (The highest in the arcade Pengo game), back to Level 1. You can see that Level 1 is just like level 1 at the game start.

I can not imagine anybody EVER looping the game. The arcade cheats badly. For example, it is not possible to stun a snobee next to Pengo. If it is heading toward Pengo, it will slide into him, kill him, and THEN get stunned. They also outrun Pengo terribly after about level 4.

Here's a video of the last two intermissions and looping from level 16 to level 1.

What? No man unless I completely misinterpreted it all these years that's a side view of him sitting there playing the cocktail version of the video game!  And he's not banging his head on it.. he's playing it. :) But hey if we want to think of it as a martini I guess that's related to cocktails anyway lol

Cocktails were almost 100% the primary arcade games we got in that part of the world so when I played Pengo, it was in cocktail form. So that pic made instant sense I guess.

Uh-oh, three options now! Desk, martini glass and cocktail table...  Now that I see the arcade cabinet, that really makes the most sense especially with the chair there.

I wonder if there's some official documentation that can be found to tell us exactly what it is.

Oh WOW! That is an interpretation I never considered. The only "flaw" I see in that is that his legs aren't present behind the cocktail machine. I always figured he was drinking between the scenes, hence the wall of ice. I assumed he was tipsy and in the drink on the final scene.

The idea of him playing the cocktail is pretty cool, and I can see that too now.

https://gamicus.fandom.com/wiki/Pengo states that Pengo is playing the piano. There's a fourth take that I believe NONE of US here like.

I just can't let go that his feet are not visible, so he appears to be INSIDE the object. I just assumed it was a badly drawn beverage he was sipping. I figured that why he stops and stares when the wall is pushed away -- he's busted. Then he says, "Oh Well", and he goes back to drinking again. By the time the next intermission takes place, he's so tip-see that he is inside the drink.

Aside from him not actually being behind the object, I really like the arcade cocktail-top game concept. Nothing about it says piano to me. LOL

I can't find anything else at a quick search.

(sorry for the multiple posts but I can't edit old ones ;p)

Just to further the cocktail cabinet theory: the Taito ones were pretty ubiquitous in the early 80's across Asia. and looking at the side profile, it very much looks like a cartoon illustration of one wouldn't you say? :)

So in light of certain changes at the AA store, is there any chance this still gets released? I was very much looking forward to it.

Thank you. I was looking forward to it being at PRGE. I would love to see it released NOW, but I would like to see if a licensed "Pengo" port is a possibility. I do not want to do anything that could impede that, so I am a little unsure of how at the moment. Similar with RatTrap.

Licensing Pengo might be tough since it was programmed by Coreland (which later became Banpresto and now has been absorbed by Bandai-Namco) and published by SEGA (who later made ports of Pengo).

Interesting. I didn't realize that ended up at Bandai-Namco. Am I correct in assuming that Mr. Do ended up the same place? I think Namco created the mobile version, or am I thinking of Popeye? Either way, it's probably a long-shot.

Well this sucks.  Mouse trap was exidy, coleco and cbs electronics from what I've found.  Seems like nothing's happened on that since the 2600 / intellivision ports.  Does somebody maintain the rights to the program today?

Coreland became Banpresto, which is now owned by Bandai-Namco. My Hero in the astro city mini is licensed from them.

Mr. Do is Universal, which has nothing to do with Coreland. Universal was once owned by Aruze, if I remember correctly. They currently focus more on casino games. Hamster was able to license Mr. Do for a PS2 version in Japan, but the license may have changed hands since then.

Edit: Seems Universal is still owned by Aruze (the company that infamously bought SNK and sold it) and they changed their name to Universal.
