+jgkspsx
More time in the early days of gaming. Atari 2600: A very Imagic week. Dragonfire - 15 minutes Laser Gates - 45 minutes a sample: No Escape - 15 minutes Subterranea - 35 minutes Atari 7800: Super Skateboardin' - 60 minutes A very short game but fun to keep trying to improve in. Or not. Atari Lynx: Alpine Games - 45 minutes partly for HSC Someday I'll learn how to play more of these events. Shanghai - 95 minutes for HSC I am really bad at this. I swear I had figured out a sort of working strategy but apparently I forgot it. Fairchild Channel F: Videocart 6: Math Quiz Addition/Subtraction - 45 minutes I rolled the score on subtraction. Yeah, the multiplication one is the only really fun one. But addition and subtraction are more fun than division, which is just way too easy. Videocart 16: Memory Match - 35 minutes Played both 40 square modes. Surprisingly challenging, or I was just being dumb. Videocart 25: Casino Poker - 45 minutes I eventually lost all my money. It's a shame because they were 1980 dollars, worth a lot more now! LCD/Handheld: Epoch Galaxy II - 15 minutes Judge Dredd - 20 minutes Radio Shack Astro Thunder - 20 minutes Tiger Stix Klobber - 10 minutes Tiger Stix Plugger - 25 minutes Tiger Stix Pogoman - 10 minutes Tiger Stix Shark Bite - 10 minutes @carlsson I incorrectly reported this before as "Tiger Stix Shark Attack" - apologies. Tiger Stix Wheelz - 10 minutes Milton Bradley Microvision: Sea Duel (Bataille Navale) - 10 minutes Nintendo Game Boy: Spanky's Quest - 20 minutes Nintendo Game Boy Color: Ballistic - 20 minutes Sega Game Gear: Junction - 15 minutes

+wongojack
Amiga Hostages (aka Hostages - Rescue Mission) 100 C64 Hostages (aka Hostages - Rescue Mission) 50 NES 1943 21 Guerrilla War 214 (p.b. 1,010,900) Montezuma's Revenge 79 Rescue - The Embassy Mission 73 The NES HSC was playing Guerrilla War which is an excellent Commando-style vertical run and gun. I think it is better on an emulator though as the sprite flicker is pretty bad on original hardware. I also got my kickstarter reward for the NES version of Montezuma's Revenge, so I played the NES version and the modern reboot a bit. The biggest change in the NES version is the addition of a bat that comes and kills you if you spend too much time on one screen. Thanks, I hate it I also dipped into 3 versions of Hostages. I posted about the Amiga version a bit here. There are differences with each one that add and detract from the overall experience. The NES version with its screen-driven menus is the easiest to quickly play and get into, but the rooftop sections where you rappel down the side are the worst in that version to the point of being almost pointless. The Amiga version looks good, but the controls inside the embassy are quite strange. If the game had been designed today, that section would have almost assuredly been an FPS with the controls we've all come to expect. Meanwhile, the C64 version at first appears to be putting too many elements on the screen during the rooftop section, but it ends up making that segment more fun than any of the other platforms. Once inside the embassy, it also abandons any attempt at over-the-shoulder gaming and throws you right into one of the only examples of FPS gaming on the C64 that I can think of. I'd like to try the ST and Spectrum versions, but I need a couple emulator crash courses first. ----- Ineligible <- I included to show my retro-ness extended into modern gaming this week with both Monty and Pac-Man ----- PC Montezuma's Revenge (Modern Reboot) 78 Pac-Man 256 66 Spellspire 252 NES Montezuma's Revenge! by Normal Distribution LLC — Kickstarter

It’s a bit floaty, which I love. It’s also easy enough for me to master, which all of the other versions are to hard for me to beat. As I wrote, I'll delay the stats until Wednesday evening European time if the server migration has went well, or will wait one more day if complications arose that prevented people from entering their times. 2

(#1) 9. Amiga - 100 min. 9. CoCo 1 & 2 - 100 min. The first game to become the most played in a week after the forum move is Guerrilla War, though with only a margin of 16 minutes ahead of pre-NES star Solar Fox, which in its turn is a mere 4 minutes ahead of Jr. Pac-Man. We're seeing a good amount of diversity this week with 25 different systems, with the NES/Famicom in the top, almost an hour ahead of the Atari 2600. Actually all systems except for the Genesis enjoy at least 10 minutes each this week. No changes to the 1000, 5000 or 10000 Minute Clubs. In case someone missed to post due to the downtime yesterday, please do so and I'll include your times with next week. 2

Kurt_Woloch
Here are my times for this past week (August 8th-14th, 2022): Arcade: Jr. Pac-Man - 194 min. in 5 sessions Commodore 64: Al-bert (from Reset64 4kb 'Craptastic' Game Compo) - 11 min. Marble Boy - 15 min. This week I continued to play Jr. Pac-man. The higher average time per session is due to the last session where I completed the game in MAME using state saves. Then I tried 2 Commodore 64 games: Al-bert is a 4K game from a competition held in 2020, and it's another take on Q*Bert. While the graphics are pretty nice, the gameplay has been greatly simplified. The only creatures in the game are the player, the snake and some balls you have to avoid, which change color with each round. Also, there's no level/round structure, and you have to hop on each cube only once, even in later levels. Note: This is not the same game as "Albert" which has been released on May 3rd, 1985 with Hebodogiciel No. 081, and also somewhat based on Q*Bert... but the one I played seems to be the better take. Marble Boy is a cross between Marble Madness and Buggy Boy, but viewed in 2D top-down. It plays on one screen (out of 4 selectable) on which you roll around with your marble and try to clear the gates that appear as fast as possible. There doesn't seem to be an end to a level, or at least I didn't reach one.

+wongojack
Amiga Hostages (aka Hostages - Rescue Mission) 34 Amiga CD32 Defender of the Crown II 44 Apple ][gs Hostage (aka Hostage - Rescue Mission) 31 Atari ST Defender of the Crown 168 Hostages (aka Hostages - Rescue Mission) 40 Nitro 72 DOS Hostage (aka Hostage - Rescue Mission) 85 ZX Spectrum Great Escape, The 10 Hostages 87 Ok . . . I played a lot of versions of the game often known as "Hostages" although it is sometimes known as just "Hostage" and in North America seems to have had "Rescue Mission" added. It was fun to play so many versions of the same game, and I continued to post about it in the Amiga forum. The ST and the Amiga are probably the best versions, but they suffer from some odd control choices that subsequent releases don't have. That gives the DOS port some room to punch above its weight and earn my vote for the best version (unless I change my mind in 5 mins). Be warned, if you play the DOS version it has all the problems of DOS games with mediocre EGA graphics and beepy boopy sound. Neither the Dos nor Spectrum version have the weird controls of the 16bits, and if you play the Spectrum version in 128 mode, you get a nice soundtrack that puts the DOS PC speaker to shame. As for the Apple ][gs, I had never emulated that computer before this little experiment, and it wasn't a good experience. The emulator I chose (GSPlus) is supposed to be the easiest one, but it was rough. I was able to start the game but could never get it to advance to the second stage. Since I was in an emulating mood, I played a few other games. Neither version of DOTC was all that impressive (gameplay wise), and I continue to point to the C64 as my favorite version of that game.
