DR1B01 DEMO GAME

Hello everybody!

2.thumb.png.9b86d894d8e279a9425cfc39a0cc098e.png

During this weekend I've been working on the prototype of a new game.

The prototype is free and fully playable, but I'm thinking about improving it (more levels, graphics and sounds) in order to make a physical edition, but I would need to know the opinion of the members and publishers from the Intellivision scene about the game. Would you be interested in a full game?

Thanks for your attention!

How it works:

Quote

Your mission is to rescue all the crew members of a mining ship. To do this you have a limited time before the ship crashes.

The security robots will not make it easy for you and will come after you on sight.  You can use EMP pulses to kill them by holding down the fire button for half a second, but EMP pulses are not unlimited.

To access some areas of the ship, you need to locate the security cards.

Don't forget to use the map to locate yourself at all times.

As a proof of concept, it looks promising. You should definitely continue!

I would maybe shrink the sprites, add more variety to the rooms and make it a rogue style game.

Feel free to move this to the Programming subforum for a more technical conversation if you would like.

Maybe I'm getting old for my reaction times, but feels somewhat unfair to run so fast into a monster and lose half your energy bar. My suggestion would be to reduce your movement speed by two, and also the monster movement speed.

Also not immediately clear what things can damage you, I ran into something that look like ordered chairs, but it damaged me. As a suggestion, you could use a color scheme to make easy to identify dangers, like painting all dangers in red.

Hello again.

I have made some changes to the mechanics, taking into account your feedback.

1- Sprites of the player and miners are smaller.

2- I have limited the movements of the player and enemies, so that they move more like in a rogue game. Now there are no diagonal movements.

3- Enemies disappear when you touch them, limiting the total damage. Now it is also easier to run away from them.

4- EMPS are easier to use. There is no loading time.
5- The miners counter is fixed, so the demo has the right gameplay time.

Mmm... i think that all the "time attack thing" is the core of the gameplay, but... you have much more time than 40".  You can (and need to) reset the time counter several times during the game, touching the yellow terminals.

Perhaps It would be a good idea to add a normal-easy-hard Mode menu in the final game (if i finally decide to develop it) and make the demo easier.

17 hours ago, Steve Jones said:

can you make both bottom buttons do the map, the way i hold the controller i use the right buttons if they are mapped the same as the left

Best practice: remember Steve Jones when mapping buttons! ?

(Took me a while to get it, but fortunately Steve is very patient.)
