Suppose you were 60 years old with $10,000,000, tax/debt-free, and no dependents.  What would you do?

Buy the world a Coke. I've been informed that this will somehow lead to world peace.  If you're really about 60, and not just pretending, you might know what I'm talking about.  🙃

I have little faith in the singing in perfect harmony, however.  I, for one, cannot carry a tune in a bucket.

Yeah! I stopped in for one of these on Delancey Street, NYC, Circa 1990.

Had a couple bites, than promptly escorted it to the waste receptacle.

13 years prior, I used to get them in L.A., and on occasion in Mexico... They were good then\there.

Got made fun-of in Mexico ...for not buying a "real" Mexican Taco.

But, I never got sick once! ...And they did taste a bit more authentic in Mexico... or so I believed.

Found this at a local retro swap meet - looks familiar! ;)

I've never seen this one before. (Also never seen the Darth Vader A2 it's connected to in RL before either).

In case it's not clear, that's /not/ a TI monitor.

Surely you all have one in your closet and I'm the only one who's never seen that?

Goodbye Intel... It was nice knowing you...

19,250 employees got their pink slip today.

10 billion in looses.

If you put $100 into Intel 25 years ago, your investment would still be worth $100.

I predicted this when Intel stopped producing desktop motherboards, then stopped making server systems and components (after suffering three failed, brand new Intel SAS RAID controllers,) and sold off the NUCs.  I admit, the 13th/14th Gen CPU problem completely blind-sided me.  Having to license AMD's 64-bit CPU engine should have been a warning, in hind-sight.  Or, maybe its purchase of McAfee and subsequent failure to do anything useful with it.

For the longest time, I had wanted to build and sell servers based on AMD CPUs (I have a couple of K6-III+ and Athlon XP+ which are still kicking ass,) but AMD's lack of a vertical small business market was untenable.  Good chipsets (in the 2000s, NVidia made the best, IMO,) would not last long enough to establish a stable system base, and bad chipsets were, well, just fracking bad.  You built an Intel system with an Intel motherboard, Intel chipset, Intel CPU, and Intel RAID controller (or an AMI with an Intel chip at its heart) and it was rock-solid, stable, and outlived its cabling.  Things started changing around 2014, then discontinuing desktop motherboards in 2016.  Well, the writing was on the wall, even if it took a long time.

Oh, well.  It was a fun run.  What, about 50 years give-or-take?  40 good ones?  I am really not sure how long AMD is going to be able to hold on against the ol' Acorn Risc Machine.  The next few years are going to be a blast.  The big change in the small business and home computer market is coming much more quickly than we hoped.

August 2nd, 1988:

Breakfast Time visited rural Warwickshire, where the Darling family ran Britain's second most successful computer games company.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codemasters

Back in 1988, they were Britain's second largest game company, making 2.1 million pounds per year.

Sadly, after selling out to EA for 2.1 billion in 2021, now EA has been laying off employees since December 2023.

I still have my Foundation CP/M, we just, within the last couple of years, got the software images to use them again. I haven't tried mine though.

sadly, i somehow lost my morning star and foundation cp/m cards, when i got all my ti99 peb's out of storage, those cards were not in the slots, strange. too bad as i had both, and even the 80col addon card as well. and also the foundation memory card, and morning star memory card for the ti99 side, i think i lost one full peb somehow, must have not gotten placed into the storage, along with the other 6 packed boxes.

uber just gave me a code for 1 year of free access to the new AI search engine called "perplexity pro" for being an uber one user.

going to signup later, and ask the AI search engine some ti99 questions, see how it searches and what it finds.
