Racing Gears Advance is in my top 5 GBA games and that’s really saying something.

Yeah, I was really surprised by it.  I had seen someone commenting here on Atari Age about it (maybe it was you), and it inspired me to try all the best racing games on the GBA.  It was instantly fun to play and a nice challenge.  It made me wonder if the creators had anything to do with the "Super Cars" series of games because it is very similar.

Side note - I don't really get the F-Zero series.  Those games are consistently near the top of various "best of" lists all the time, but they always just feel like a sort of cheap Mario Kart knockoff to me.

I like the latter GBA F-Zero games and the N64 game but F-Zero GX is the only game I truly love.

Apple iOS:

Duolingo - 181 minutes

IMG_6673.thumb.jpeg.b5bc932a085ca75617629b8cc53157fd.jpeg
(the discrepancy in time is because of how Duolingo counts weeks vs how iOS does)

Pikmin Bloom - 316 minutes

New challenge started. Thankfully I only need to get three new types this time.

Nintendo DS:

Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of Osborne House - 225 minutes

3. Forza Horizon 5 (Xbox One) - 264 min. (#2)
4. Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of Osborne House (DS) - 225 min.

8. Picross 3D (DS) - 121 min. (#9)
9. Fallout Shelter (PC) - 110 min. (#6)
10. Racing Gears Advance (GBA) - 77 min.

Top systems

1. PS2 (1 game) - 795 min. (#1)
2. iOS (2 games) - 497 min. (#3)
3. DS (2 games) - 346 min. (#9)
4. Xbox One (3 games) - 342 min. (#2)
5. GBA (12 games) - 333 min.
6. PC (2 games) - 233 min. (#6)
7. Android (6 games) - 195 min. (#8)
8. PS3 (1 game) - 20 min. (#4)

Total 2761 minutes and 29 different games (of which 9 new) on 8 different systems, with 4 participants.

A lot of racing games this week, but the game in the driver's seat still is Suikoden III, which also helps the PS2 to become the most played in terms of minutes.

Pikmin Bloom (iOS) enters the 300 Hour Club with a total of 18163 minutes. There currently are 9 games in that club, with an average of 42656 minutes. A big reason for that big number is of course PUBG.

This week I played:

Sonic World (R9 rev 2) for PC - 164 minutes

Suikoden III for Playstation 2 - 734 minutes

Progress:

Sonic World (R9 rev 2) - I got the first emblem in every level as Amy. To finish this file I had started at the Sonic Heroes stages where I left off, then completed the rest. I might not make standalone files for any more characters but still might try to complete each level with the rest of them gradually.

Suikoden III - I finished Chapter 5 with Geddoe as Flame Champion and complete Luc's story which followed. Now if I ever want to go back and level up characters and equipment for fun I can in either of my three Chapter 5 files with the different leaders.

More of the same this week with a few curveballs:

Apple iOS:

Duolingo - 122 minutes

Pikmin Bloom - 450 minutes

IMG_6981.thumb.jpeg.ca29633cd03a7e6abe2f4a79a5c85e32.jpeg

Finished the monthly challenges already, looking forward to slacking the rest of the month.

LCD Handheld:

2000 in 1 Window - 10 minutes

IMG_6806.thumb.jpeg.8a6f4d3d3fb825b5f71f6362297345fc.jpeg
I got this hilarious device for $10 and it is worth it just for the shockingly nice sounding Ode to Joy it plays when you turn it on. The fact that its version of Tetris is halfway decent is icing on the cake.

Same device, different presentation and maybe brand:

No copyright I see. I figure it’s either 1999 or 2000.

Nintendo DS:

Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of Osborne House - 45 minutes

IMG_6798.thumb.jpeg.4888af9bb095bd5c716bcc07b89a522e.jpeg

ALL SPENT ON THIS ONE GODFORSAKEN PUZZLE.

This is as close as I got, and that is good enough for me.

Sherlock Holmes and the Mummy’s Curse - 65 minutes

Pretty decent Myst-like game but it is very pixel hunt-y.

Nintendo Game Boy Advance:

Super Bubble Pop - 20 minutes

IMG_6905.thumb.jpeg.fb7af96910d0d4a84d560668dd1608a1.jpeg

This game is a bit rough but surprisingly addictive. The rules are kind of weird but they make a certain amount of sense. I never quite got on the scoreboard but I broke 150000 at least.

Nintendo Switch:

Islets - 425 minutes

IMG_6908.thumb.jpeg.1d797304f54589894782c3d77de9f7b5.jpeg
For a “surprisingly wholesome Metroidvania” it has a lot of dark humor. But it’s really fun. 83% done, gonna finish it this week I think.

PC:

One Shot - 25 minutes

This adventure game came to consoles but it belongs on the PC entirely. Play it to see why.

LOL - That is one I wouldn't have been able to pass up either.

PC

Dark Void Zero 155

David. 9

Fallout Shelter 407

Pixross 37

Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe 60

Xbox One
Forza Horizon 5 567

Gang Beasts 123

More Forza (this time played mostly with my nephew) and some Fallout Shelter to fill the time.  Dark Void Zero is a surprisingly fun NES-style spinoff game made by Capcom from their bigger budget console game called Dark Void (which came out years ago and kinda stunk).

Star Traders Elite - 30min

To quote @Hwlngmad from last year, which version is that? I find that there are Star Traders RPG Elite (possibly RPG and Elite separately) and the newer Star Traders: Frontiers. Last year (late November) you just listed it as Star Traders, perhaps it is the same game as then.

Total 3558 minutes and 21 different games (of which 8 new) on 9 different systems, with 5 participants.

Sorry for the late stats, after a very busy week.

The top trio is almost intact from last week, with Suikoden III at the top and Forza Horizon 5 overtaking Pikmin Bloom. The seven different PC games are enough to make it the most played system this week.

No changes to the 50, 150 or 300 Hour Clubs.

PC

Forza Horizon 5 128

Minecraft (for Windows) 403

Xbox 360

Fallout New Vegas 175

XOne
Out of Space 54

I have been switching to Forza on the PC, and I think I should have logged some time for it on PC last week too.  Regardless, my time is decrease in that one.  I'm mostly playing now just to spend time with my nephew who recently discovered the game.

Apple iOS:

Duolingo - 187 minutes

Pikmin Bloom - 398 minutes

Nintendo Switch:

Islets - 110 minutes

IMG_7126.thumb.jpeg.9f366096b5637cc4286594c2bee28494.jpeg

Completed it.

PC Building Simulator - 830 minutes

IMG_7229.thumb.jpeg.52f13284a94b07d355adfde8d8f16857.jpeg

It is a game but it’s very realistic. (It’s also very much like actually working.) I’m trying to psyche myself up for a new build since my 2008 tower isn’t cutting it anymore.

It’s very entertaining at times.

Sony PSVita:

Demon Gaze - 96 minutes

Heard this was being delisted, I found it cheap, and read good reviews, so I figured I would give it a try. The gameplay is very solid but the art style is just not my thing.

Top systems

2. iOS (2 games) - 585 min. (#4)
3. PC (2 games) - 531 min. (#1)
4. Xbox 360 (1 game) - 175 min.

8. Xbox One (1 game) - 54 min. (#3)

Total 2616 minutes and 12 different games (of which 3 new) on 8 different systems, with 4 participants.

Again, I postponed this week's stats a few days longer than intended. It resulted in a new top two, with PC Building Simulator making up for almost 1/3 of the entire number of minutes played, yet well below 1000 minutes. It also moves the Switch into first place again on the systems list.

No changes to the 50, 150,300 Hour Clubs. Also as I mentioned in the classic tracker, half-season stats will be coming up in two weeks.

Happy Midsummer to everyone!

Here are my times for this past week (June 19th through 25th) on modern systems...

Browser-Based:

Agar.io - 18 min.

Blastar - 3 min.

Cups (Water sort puzzle) - 62 min.

Gulper.io - 20 min.

Sandtris - 20 min.

Snake Online - 30 min.

This week's online playing time was inspired by a mention which games Elon Musk likes. He likes one strategy game which, however, can only be bought which I wasn't in for. So instead I played the game he wrote, Blastar, as an HTML5 version. Then I tried "Sandtris" which is a new take on Tetris in that the pieces, once set, turn into sand in different colors which runs down. However, you don't have to complete lines like in Tetris, but rather form a connection from the left to the right edge of the pit with the same sand color. This puts the strategy you have to follow somehow near to "Puzzle Bobble".

Then, somehow, I stumbled on "Cups" which is a cure little browser game somewhat similar to the "Towers of Hanoi" in that you have to fill each bottle with only one color of water, but you have to juggle around with water sections in several bottles to fullfil this.

Lastly, "Agar.io", "Gulper.io" and "Snake online" are all multiplayer games where you play for survival. I started with "Snake online" and then got into the other games which I hadn't played for a longer time now.

This week I played:

King's Field: The Ancient City for Playstation 2 - 125 minutes

Sonic Origins Plus for Switch - 54 minutes [Since Plus is just DLC for Sonic Origins, do you just count this as Sonic Origins?]

Progress:

King's Field: The Ancient City - I cleared the cave of fire, defeated the giant dwarf that was formerly frozen and restored the Icon of Ice to the pedestal. That allowed me to get the flame sword. Then I went back into the cave of fire and defeated a boss-like enemy at the end of a sort of hidden passage to get another fire crystal.

Sonic Origins Plus - I played through Sonic the Hedgehog in Anniversary Mode using Amy, getting all 6 chaos emeralds. I was happy to see they fixed the Sonic 1 Special Stage physics which used to be pretty bad in the launch version of the game.
