I had high hopes for the paddles working. They feel sluggish on breakout. A possible dealbreaker. I doubt I could play kaboom like I feel it should be played. Kaboom and super breakout are 2 of my all time favs on the 2600. Kaboom and super breakout should be the benchmark by which all paddle support in emus should be evaluated

Tried playing with the new paddles and older OEM. Both with similar results. In fact, the older paddles did exhibit jittery behavior.

That doesn't sound good. However the videos(!) from PRGE I saw (e.g. ZPH live streaming) were different. Not sure how to explain that.

I'm interested in picking up the Paddles in November and use it with my original 2600.  I'm going to wait to hear reviews on the paddles first though.  Playing breakout and Warlords would be fun on the 2600.

I guess we will have to wait for the testing results from PRGE?  I know it just ended, but I thought there would be some live updates or something on AtariAge.  :)

I played several games on an original 2600 using the new paddles and they worked great once I put my television into "Game" mode.  It's so nice to have smooth, jitter-free paddles!

I'm not sure when it will happen, but we'll likely create a separate compatibility list for homebrew games, and might host it here on AtariAge.  I'm still in Portland myself and won't be home until the weekend, but we'll get an initial list together soon.

Don’t get me wrong.

the paddles worked. It appears there is some lag in the gain control they use to emulate them. My testing demonstrated some (for lack of better description term “inertia”) lag combined with over compensating when spun fast.  It clearly reads the paddles as the jittery OEM paddles demonstrated this. I would like to have an OEM Atari next to the plus to compare properly. Do some proper comparisons and documenting both quantitive and qualitative data. A list of games that boot up and play is nice, but do they play the same? that is the question.

FYI.. night driver appears ok as it isn’t such a twitch game like kaboom. I tried that and it’s ok.

I’ll admit, I’m an outlier for the main audience I’m sure. I grew up before video games and the Atari was my true love. Played the heck out of it.  Still do.

BTW:is there a way to “fry”

That sounds like some Stella settings meant for jittery paddles are enabled. They are disabled by default, so that would be something done intentional.

Is there a chance to see a 2600+ at eJagfest in Germany this week-end?

Korschenbroich (between Düsseldorf and Mönchengladbach), Germany.

I highly doubt it, unless something has already been arranged (not that I'm aware of) given it already Wednesday.

Nothing is mentioned on the eJagfest site. I was just curious. On the other hand I assume that these will be all over the place a month from now.

So, there might be a a way of optimizing it for the new paddles with less jitter comparing Kaboom on 2600 Jr and +🤔

Once I got my 2600+, I gonna play Solarstorm with my modded Micro Händler with its low jitter paddles (out of the box the pot value is Commodore style, so in Video Olympics you could not reach the edges... I put a trim pot in front to fine tune it😊)

Best we can hope for is Atari integrating the updates readily available via JS7800 posted sources, which several from the community have assisted with updating.

@Ben from Plaion

As to the last part reading:

«Best we can hope for is Atari integrating the updates readily available via JS7800 posted sources, which several from the community have assisted with updating.»

Is this something your team will be able to work on prior to it’s launch, or is it more probable that later updates will come into play here?

I could need 3 of these, but I’m mostly interested in the 7800-functionality, as it makes collecting/using 7800-carts much easier in Norway, bypassing the issues of PAL/NTSC etc-issues (and for others than me - the stuff about importing a NTSC crt-TV to play American carts.

If such things (using the links above for updates) have been attempted and/or answered elsewhere, just link to answers/results.

👍

Same for me. I bougt a Robotron2084 cart for the 7800 after my preorder, now I hope to play the game on the plus soon😊

In the past I skipped many original NTSC carts as they failed on my PAL system.

Some NTSC homebrews and hacks worked but looked a bit odd.

I really hope the 7800 compatibility inclunding homebrews with Pokey/Hokey sound will increase with updates!

The 7800 mode ist for me the important one, as my 2600 Junior will stay anyway.

Not Working:  Tunnel Runner

This one’s sad.
I hope they’ll get future firmware-updates to fix this.

But on their own ‘tested’ list, neither Tunnel Runner nor Robot Tank seemed to work.

As for 7800 games, it surprised me that they said Double Dragon would work but not Rampage. I thought both used un-orthodox memory set-ups.

Anyway, perhaps they just need for a future tougher Emulator-software to be installed.

I think a reasonable number of homebrews especially the older titles may work but many of the new ones are using pokey @450 or even @800 which will/may not be supported by the announced emulator.  Fingers crossed though!

Hi Mike

Even the old 7800 homebrews do not work.

No games from Atariage, no Video 61 games

No homebrews, made by me and Clark.

Even my easiest 7800 hacks do not work.

However some 2600 homebrews work.

Working:  Artillery Duel Single Ender

               Stargate

               Espial

Not Working:  Tunnel Runner

                     Burgertime

                     Starpath Supercharger + Official Frogger

I mourn for Burgertime. I hope they get it working on a future firmware.

I watched a video from John Hancock and we said these work starting with the 7800

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMFCAxlzYxg&pp=ygUjYXRhcmkgMjYwMCsgcmV2aWV3OiBhIHBlcmZlY2R0IGdpZnQ%3D

Tank Command - Works

Rampage 7800 version - Fails (might be a board that cannot read from)

2600 working

StarGate  - Works

Burgertime - Works (but his is cart is not working)

Artillery Duel - Works

Tunnel Runner - Fails

Espial - Works

just listing what he had so Atari could update the list

I'm gonna test xevious for the 7800 on mine since they're missing it on the list

If my copy of Xevious works Atari should add it into their list.

Hi Guys

Played around with the 2600+

No 7800 homebrew works, none made by Atariage, none, made by Bob, none made by Video 61, none made by me, Clark and Charles.

I only found one 7800 remake of Commando, made by a spanish guy, which works. I guess he used the original board sheme.

Only the new developed multicart, made by Karri

work....but only, if you put original 7800 games on it....no homebrews.
