That new criterion is that the female character must be clearly visible, without any doubt, in the video game. With that new criterion in mind, let us see how Heart Like a Wheel fits into our classification system. Strawberry Shortcake Musical Matchups - Strawberry Shortcake, Blueberry Muffin and Lime Chiffon are three female characters that you can make by selecting the right clothes. Then they will come to life and dance for you! Tomarc the Barbarian – Senta fights off bats while waiting impatiently for Tomarc to rescue her. HONORABLE MENTIONS Heart Like a Wheel (prototype) – This prototype of a game was based on the movie of the same name. (Greg2600 told us that the programmer, Jim Collas, contacted Atari Protos and confirmed it.) However, this game doesn't meet our criteria since all we can see, unfortunately, are cars. We don't see the drivers inside the cars. So, unfortunately, the best we can give Heart Like a Wheel in this case is an honorable mention for being based on a movie about a female race car driver. Sensational Santuci Sisters - Barb and Deb must search the Dream World for clues to their Grandmothers Secret Spaghetti Sauce! (Was intended to be an official Great Giana Sisters for the 2600, but was unfortunately cancelled due to legal issues.) NOT A FEMALE LEADING CHARACTER Alien – I think not. The manual says, "Each game of Alien lasts until you run out of humans." While your pixelated human could be Ripley, the female lead in the film, I think it also could be any other member of the crew who is still alive aboard the Nostromo. Meeow - I think not. The main character is @ZeroPage Homebrew Mr. James, not the cat. Even still, the gender of the cat is unknown. "You control a cat..." says the game instruction manual PDF. Meeow 2 - No. The cat's name is Max. Sheep It Up – No. The sheep/main character is male. "Sheep It Up! is an arcade game where a sheep has to climb up by hanging himself to flying velcro straps." UNSURE Rampage – Everyone knows that Lizzie turns back into a woman after her power level drops to zero, but in the Atari 2600 version, do we see that happen? According to our new criteria, we have to see it "clearly" and "without any doubt" or it doesn't count. We need to verify! Ms. Galactopus RPG Fight (mini game) – A girl challenges you to play her in a game of rock, paper, scissors. FEMALE SUPPORTING ROLES Donkey Kong – Pauline – Mario's girlfriend who is patiently waiting to be rescued. Jungle Hunt – Lady P is your wife whom you are trying to rescue from the cannibals. Popeye – Popeye's girlfriend Olive Oyl is waiting to be rescued, throws you hearts to encourage you. Save Mary (prototype) – You save Mary by constructing a platform before the water rises! Snow White (prototype) – The Seven Dwarves search for Prince Charming in the Enchanted Forest who will save Snow White from the evil queen. Strawberry Shortcake Musical Matchups - Strawberry Shortcake, Blueberry Muffin and Lime Chiffon are three female characters that you can make by selecting the right clothes. Then they will come to life and dance for you! Tarsan's Rescue (hack) – Women and children are rescued in the jungle by Tarsan after a plane crash leaves them stranded. Tomarc the Barbarian – Senta fights off bats while waiting impatiently for Tomarc to rescue her. HONORABLE MENTIONS Dolphin (Activision) – The game instruction manual refers to your dolphin as "she." However, graphically, the game doesn't meet our criteria of being able to see "clearly" and "without any doubt" that the dolphin is female. Thus, in this case, the best we can do is give Dolphin an honorable mention for using female pronouns in the game instruction manual. Heart Like a Wheel (prototype) – This prototype of a game was based on the movie of the same name. (Greg2600 told us that the programmer, Jim Collas, contacted Atari Protos and confirmed it.) However, this game doesn't meet our criteria since all we can see, unfortunately, are cars. We don't see the drivers inside the cars. So, unfortunately, the best we can give Heart Like a Wheel in this case is an honorable mention for being based on a movie about a female race car driver. Lyra the Tenrec – The game instruction manual refers to Lyra as "she." Also, Lyra is clearly female on the box art. Rampage – In the Atari 2600 version of Rampage, we can't see "clearly" and "without any doubt" that Lizzie's human form is a woman. It could be a man or a woman, we can't tell. The best we can do is give Rampage an honorable mention for being the home version of an arcade game with a female lead character. Sensational Santuci Sisters - Barb and Deb must search the Dream World for clues to their Grandmothers Secret Spaghetti Sauce! (Was intended to be an official Great Giana Sisters for the 2600, but was unfortunately cancelled due to legal issues.) Super 3D Portals 6 – In Portal (2007), you play as Chell, a female protagonist. In this Atari 2600 de-make, we don't see "clearly" and "without any doubt" whether you play as a woman or a man. The best we can do is give Super 3D Portals 6 an honorable mention for being the unofficial de-make of a popular video game franchise with a female leading character. NOT A FEMALE LEADING CHARACTER Alien – I think not. The manual says, "Each game of Alien lasts until you run out of humans." While your pixelated human could be Ripley, the female lead in the film, I think it also could be any other member of the crew who is still alive aboard the Nostromo. Meeow - I think not. The main character is @ZeroPage Homebrew Mr. James, not the cat. Even still, the gender of the cat is unknown. "You control a cat..." says the game instruction manual PDF. Meeow 2 - No. The cat's name is Max. Sheep It Up – No. The sheep/main character is male. "Sheep It Up! is an arcade game where a sheep has to climb up by hanging himself to flying velcro straps."
