mos6507
I can see adding speech support to Death Derby (if I get back to DD). Back to work! Chop! Chop! Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA Well, I ordered two footpedal controllers to try to motivate me but the delivery got messed up because I moved from one apartment to the other in the same building. Long story.
Richard H.
I've tested the proto board and it works perfectly, so this is the finished design for the AtariVox - (The EEPROM is in a socket for future expansion) I'm getting the main batch of boards made up soon, so I need a rough idea of how many of you will be wanting one ? Thanks...
4ever2600
I'll definately want one... Count me in for one or two... Any prices yet?

Richard H.
Any prices yet? You'll be looking at $50 shipped, the SpeakJet chips are currently quite expensive at $25 each
birdie3
This looks really cool!! Somewhat on/off topic... What ever happened to the Atari 2600 Voice Commander module (supposedly coming soon in 1983) that I read about in their catalogs when I was a kid? Is this the same sort of idea? Richard H.
What ever happened to the Atari 2600 Voice Commander module Wasn't that going to be voice recognition unit ?
Richard H.
We've decided the on-board EEPROM is going to be 32K, doesn't sound a lot, but's it's massive as far as game-saves go. Just seen the first AtariVox enabled game beta today

Richard H.
For anyone wanting an AtariVox, I will have them ready to ship by the end of this week. I'll also put the ordering details on my page at - www.vectrex.biz/new_page_5.htm Thanks... Rob Mitchell
Now we need a cool label that will work with an Atari cart case! ... similar to the label that went on Vectrex cart containing the VecVox! Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
Richard H.
They're ready now I spent the weekend building a small stockpile of them
birdie3
This looks really cool!! I have a few questions: * Does AtariVox store high scores for any VCS game or just for ones that were coded to work with it? * Is there a case to house the hardware or does it just come as seen in the picture on the website? * Where can I find a detailed description of AtariVox?
Richard H.
* Does AtariVox store high scores for any VCS game or just for ones that were coded to work with it? Games need to be coded, or existing games hacked to make use of the EEPROM * Is there a case to house the hardware or does it just come as seen in the picture on the website? The AtariVox comes as a buiilt PCB (with cable) * Where can I find a detailed description of AtariVox? It's based on the SpeakJet chip, so you'll get an idea of what the AtariVox can do by reading the datasheet - http://www.magnevation.com/pdfs/speakjetusermanual.pdf
MegaManFan
The only thing I didn't like about the original VecVox was the lack of control over the volume. I had to wrap a thick towel around it to lower the decibel level.
Richard H.
The only thing I didn't like about the original VecVox was the lack of control over the volume I don't understand The VecVoice, VecVox and AtariVox all have / had an onboard volume pot Did you get it direct from me ? MegaManFan
I got mine from Rob Mitchell. Maybe there is a volume pot on it and I just never found it - I'll have to dig it out and look.
Richard H.
BTW do most people already have a Sega extension cable ? The reason I ask, is that I only have a limited number of them Could you specify when ordering whether you require a cable or not ? Thanks... gulag picture radio
I also ordered one a little bit ago, and I'll be needing the hookup cable. Sorry to deplete your supply!
birdie3
Games need to be coded, or existing games hacked to make use of the EEPROM Sounds cool!! What would be the main reason I would want one of these? I have read that Man Goes Down will take advantage of this new piece of hardware. Can anyone tell me if the are there plans for any other homebrews that will use the AtariVox? Also, does anyone know when Man Goes Down will be released on cartridge (so we can use the AtariVox with it)?
gulag picture radio
I forgot to ask whether this will work on a 7800 as well? It woudl be great to be able to use it with games via the CuttleCart 2.

bjk7382
What would be the main reason I would want one of these? I have read that Man Goes Down will take advantage of this new piece of hardware. Can anyone tell me if the are there plans for any other homebrews that will use the AtariVox? The more people buy it, the more people will want to make their games compatibl with it. Why would they make the games if nobody bought the hardware to use it. (Kind of a catch 22, but I willing to make the bet that it will at least have a few games that use it), and maybe I will just start learning how to hack the games to use it myself
