Genki
That's right. it had been VCS from 1977 up until around the release of Jr when it was finally called 2600. It's funny but early Jr weren't called Jr either.
+Mitch
quoteit had been VCS from 1977 up until around the release of Jr when it was finally called 2600. I've got a 4 port 2600 that says 2600 on it. I think Raccoon Lad had a closer guess. Mitch http://atari7800.atari.org
Genki
4 port 2600?? I have never heard of 4 port 2600 4 port 5200, yes. But 2600? I would think you meant 4 switch.
Ze_ro
The Sears Video Arcade II had four ports I believe, and I think the Coleco Gemini did too... though I own neither of these systems, so I could be misinformed. Don't get too excited though... the only four player games you can play on these are the regular paddle games. The reason they have four ports is because the controllers they came with had only one paddle per controller. I don't think Atari ever made anything like this though. --Zero
+Mitch
Whoops, I meant 4 switch not 4 port. I must have 5200 on the brain. Mitch http://atari7800.atari.org
Adam Huemer
Why is the console sometimes called VCS 2600 and sometimes plain 2600. Does it depend on the country it's been released? thanx in advance
Hakogame 箱亀
I believe initially the Atari 2600 was just called the "Atari VCS" (Video computer system) But when the 5200 was released they started calling it the 2600 to differentiate between the two. Nukey Shay
The Coleco Gemini had two ports. A Y-adaptor cable was included to connect the hybrid sticks for paddle games.
Charlie_
I'm looking for those y adapters for the coleco gemini, if someone has one or 2 for sale. :-) I believe they were called WYSE adapters. Charlie
