Thoughts on GTA:SA

Generaly speaking, regarding games codes, the codes are the same and work on both. I've more then once used PS2 codes listed in the GamePro Codevault on Xbox games.

Here's the Key...

PS2 button = Xbox button

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

R1 = R

L1 = L

R2 = Black

L2 = White

X = A

O = B

{square} = X

{triangle] = Y

Left = Left

Right = Right

Up = Up

Down = Down

Try it, it works.  :P

Thanks. I'll put that in a Notepad file until the Xbox version comes out. I should have an Xbox by then and I might piss away another $50 on the game instead of renting it, but I'm not sure yet. Depends on the reviews.

I can't take credit for finding that. I just compared the codes between PS2 & Xbox versions of games in the GamePro codevault section. 8)

Anywho, I'm noticing the game seems to be very proximity oriented.

If I have no wanted level and jetpack/parachute to the rooftop with the rocket launcher. I can stay up there for days, blowing stuff up, and trigger upto a 4star wanted, and the helicopter never comes. I hear the radio chatter, they know I'm up there. Off in the distance I'll see cop motocycles circling on the freeway. If I jetpack down to the ground, there'll be a ton of cop cars & cops down there that start shooting at me, and then the copter's come. But I have to get down there to trigger this interaction to happen. If I just stay put on the roof, nothing happens.

I jetpacked over to the some of the locked sections of the map. Flew the plane and helicopter (before I got shot down anyways). That was fun. I tried getting into some of the casinos, but couldn't. I guess because I hadn't actually unlocked those areas yet. Grrrrr.

When you get to that part of the game for real, the casinos are OK. I like Blackjack (got to the big money table) and video poker, but that's it. I don't like slot machines or a couple of those other things. The places are still a little dead inside, kind of like the strip clubs. You are surrounded by people, but they just don't seem alive enough yet. I can't wait until they add more life to the games in future versions.

I just let my sister borrow the game for a while, but I'll be back playing the game again in a couple of weeks. There are still places I haven't explored thoroughly and there's a lot of fun left to have.

Actually, I wonder if any of the stupid blackjack tables are open to me yet--I thought I could really use a good game of video blackjack, and I'm told I'm not a highroller enough or whatever...what a crock. I don't want to play these other frickin' games, jsut show me a blackjack table I can use!

Anyway, horseracing is where the real money is, and you don't even have to abuse the save/restore system to make millions. My theory is the odds given for the horses have NOTHING to do with how likely a horse actually is to win. The only trouble is it made some of the cutscenes with CJ and his sister talking about how they're struggling to get by money wise seem kind of stupid.

Understanding that my memory isn't that great, it seemed like I had to do one or two missions from that first casino before I was allowed to play at the low money blackjack table. After winning for a while at that table, you are allowed to move on. I got to the highest table because blackjack is so easy to win at. I guess that's why everybody seems to like it, including me.

Yeah, you can win millions with that without trying, but by the time I found the place, I already had millions from doing that health cheat so many times. It was funny to be a billionaire and have them talking about money. Maybe future versions of the game will change based on the amount of money you have and other things.

I can't wait until I get the game back from my sister. There are more things I want to try.

it would be cool if you could invest your money in stocks and either loose alot if not all in a stock crash or become a huge billionair. I was kind of upset that you couldnt really make a good dent in san ventures I would have liked it if you could have moved your gang to that town and become more high class owning casinos. If they ever put the games online like the owner of Rockstar promised in game informer than I would never leave my house again. :twisted:

Seems you can get more then 2 vehiculars in your garage, so long as any extras are bikes. I had just finished Los Sepulcros, and was being followed by a crap load of cops by the time I made the final checkpoint in front of Sweet's. As everyone was getting out of the car and it was showing the mission passed message, motocycle cop stopped right next to me. After the mission passed message cleared, my wanted level went to 0, and the cops were gone, but the bike was still there. So I ran it up to the garage all the way. Jumped off, as the door started opening, I jumped back on, and rode it in. I already had my low-rider in there as well as the police car from the Burning Desire mission. :P

Anywho, only 5 more f--king missions before unlocking the next section. :|

I was thinking the other day of a wepon they should have included, "Yard Darts", and the vehicle I would also like to see would be a "Pogo Stick".

HAHAHAHA, both very good ideas.

Did they still have Yard Darts around back then? I know now they're like this totally banned illicit danger! danger! toy...

and the mechanics of the pogostick would be great.

Some of the garages are large enough to fit 2 cars and a bike, however I've gotten them stuck where I couldnt get the door open for a while.

Now I've got 2 cars and 2 motocycles in my garage. Space wise, I know I can fit atleast another 4 (maybe more) motocycles in there, but that would make getting any vehicular out nearly impossible.

Currently, I'm tempted to take everything out of the garage and see how many bicycles I can cram in there. Bet I could get atleast 20 of 'em in there. :D

Some of the flaws are interesting to exploit too. Like Sweet's car. If you take it, drive out of the culdesac then come back, his car is there again. Park behind him. Take his car again, drive out, drive back, park behind the first car you parked. Now Sweet's got three identical cars parked out front. :P (for a few minutes anyways).

I'll bet you it starts forgetting them at some point. The space/geometry of cramming probably hides how each stored car takes up memory space.

Car permanence has always been an issue w/ GTAs in 3D, some say because of the memory limitations of the PS2 (makes me wish they had coded GTA:SA just for the Xbox...) Well, this is a different matter, respawning, but still. Overall I would say I've noticed fewer disappearing NPC cars than in , say, VC.

For anyone still thinking about buying this game, here's something to think about. I let my sister borrow my game and I miss it. It was fun to go back once every couple of days and explore and try things I haven't before. When I get it for the Xbox, that game is not leaving the house.

Good think you like it, man.

Personally, I have no interest in any of the missions. It's kind of sad because GTA3 got me hooked on missions and GTA:VC further exploited my interest. However, I've had no energy to do the same with GTA:SA.

I'm looking forward to the next GTA game. Hopefully, there will be more improvements that are possible, since it will be the PS3.

I thought the missions were pretty much on par for the series...maybe you're just getting old...or don't like the Boyz in the Hood scenario. (Personally, since they go further out of their way to make CJ a more sympathetic character, with a history, tough upbringing, and family concerns, unlike Vercetti who was more of a hardluck boreder-line psychopath, and the GTA3 who was a silent cipher, I think I tend to do less violent rampage stuff. Maybe it's that liberal guilt.
