The Return of Golden Pineapples

So I thought I'd play some Game Boy games last night. I chose Lazlo's Leap, a puzzle game that is similar to Marble Jumper on the 2005 Minigame cartridge where you have a + shaped field and your job is to jump over marbles and have the last one be in the center. Well, it reminded me of my old game I was working on and quit for the Game Boy called "Golden Pineapples" which was basically the same except you can move pineapples without having them jump over another pineapple. I did this because I couldn't figure out a way that'd use a lot of code to check and see if a pineapple was next to a pineapple. Especially when you have nine of them on the screen like there is in one puzzle.

I tweaked the game's sound effects to all use the noise channel because I plan to add some in-game music like in Tetris that you can switch on and off. Hopefully I can make that to fit in bank 0 because only 22% of it is free right now. I'm not worried about space of code for new puzzles since the game engine is completed and all it does is feed off data at the start of each puzzle. And I have plenty of room for data. I could put in 100 puzzles if I felt like it (and could think of that many).

By the way, the above puzzle couldn't be used in Lazlo's Leap, so that non-clearing pineapple jump also helps me to think up of new puzzles that couldn't be used in Lazlo's Leap. I had to give up on The Legend of Helga because I don't think I could make a compelling RPG-type game that would be long enough.

Also, by playing LL, I discovered if you complete any puzzle after #49, you get a short animation of balls bouncing around in a rectangle. How odd.
