After reviewing the screenshots, I am pretty sure the game is just a hack/pirate of Pole Position.

Why would anyone hack Pole Position to look like that? Without seeing more screen shots I can't tell too much, but it would seem odd that someone would hack the game to make the road go between white and invisible rather than between two visible but contrasting colors. On the other hand, depending upon what one was doing with the Player sprites, there may be a good reason to use ENAMx or ENABL to stripe the road rather than using COLUxx.

Details please! What has been found? I see a screenshot, no rom. Did this come from a magazine pic, or what?

Or has a prototype been found?

Atarifrog are you out there??

I aksed where the pic came from and got totally ignored. Oh well ;)

I dunno. Maybe missing understanding of the disassembly?

The screen layout is identical to PP (road vs. horizon, road angle and pattern, player car graphics ...), this seems very unlikely for a game programmed from scratch.

Someone probably just succeeded to fool the atarimania guys. While there indeed was a small window opening for commercial 2600 releases in the late 80's, a chance taken by some companies like Epyx in 1988, I'm pretty certain that no European company was trying that in 1990. There neither was the market nor the knowhow given.

The whole story is also bogus, if the game was lost, where does the emulator screenshot come from?

Thanks for restoring the truth, wise man

Er... How about Ubi Soft?

Anyway, delusion of grandeur is what it's called and that's why Titus went bust.

I don't know. I'm not a 2600 specialist and didn't even realize it came from an emulator (does it really?).

What I can tell you is that I got in touch with the programmer last April and he responded with what you can read on our page. I had completely forgotten about this story so this is why our page was set up so late. Anyway, another e-mail with more detailed questions was sent yesterday. Patience is a virtue...

contact the programmer

And people wonder why I don't post that much anymore.

That's like calling a pit-stop crew member a race-car driver.

Keep talking rice, Wizard.

In the meantime, check out this guy's CV:

A little bit of tension here...

Atarifrog can you expand on what is posted on Atarimania? I don't think this is a gag, Rom hates gags. No one on here means harm. Just too many bad jokes in the past... which this is not one of.

Why I remember a character that even found a Turbo prototype. I never trusted an Aussie since. No offence Dino. :D

What more can I tell you?

The programmer introduced himself to a French forum, I followed the link to his page and asked him about the game. The trivia on our page was his reply (part of it, the rest was about Titus' demise). That was in April and I had completely forgotten about this story until recently...

I have contacted the coder again (yesterday) with more detailed questions so, hopefully, he'll be able to shed some light on all this.

My god you wouldn't know a real atari game if it punched you in the face Sir Jpeg Romul-use-less. Your a fuckin' numb skull that thinks your hot shit cause you make a pile of all the info that other people have already brought to light yet STILL you have the nerve to say stupid shit about real deal folks like my friend CPU? I think we should cut to the chace here and openly apoligize to CPU so I don't have to put you in your place agian like last time you ran your mouth you wish-you-could-have-had-never-will atari picture dump vulture. And no there is nothing cool about it in any way what so ever. So don't try to think anymore of it cause of the misguided acute recognition you pillage from the nieve and blight from showing off things that are not yours. :x

Shawn you and I have had our differences in the past but please refrain from being so damn aggressive on the forums. I want to see where this goes and if you continue with this tirade then one of the mods will lock it up tight so please, for the rest of us, moderate your tone and keep this thread open to debate ;)
