Cybergoth
I'm also always prefering "make" over "remake". If you'd possibly want to do a whole series of "Universal" conversions, I'd suggest "Cosmic Guerilla" next
ZylonBane
I'd also like to see a really good port of Lunar Lander. The FB2 version was a travesty. The 2600 could do a great vector-looking Lunar Lander, if we're willing to accept a 30Hz flicker on the terrain. Just break the terrain down into tiles of left- and right-facing diagonal lines, then use the infinite sprite-replication trick to display first the left-diagonal "tiles", then the right-diagonals on the next frame, and so on. NE146
Or heck, Thrust & Gravitar show immediately what kind of Lunar Lander can be made. Not that Lunar Lander is all that fun though Edited July 14, 2006 by NE146
ZylonBane
Sure, you could go with a nasty low-res playfield-based solution. But the constrained nature of Lunar Lander's terrain makes a better solution possible.
jbanes
Not that Lunar Lander is all that fun though Exactly. Play Deimos Lander instead. (Shill? What's that? I have no idea what you're talking about. It wasn't me, it was the one armed man!)

jpfalcon2003
Here's a 160x192 mockup (stretched 200% horizontally) of how I imagine Zaxxon on the 2600. I know very little about the limits of the hardware, so please forgive any technical impossibilities demonstrated in this mockup. I just whipped this up in about 15 minutes, just to convey my vision of the game. Could a horizontally scrolling game such as this be possible on the 2600? I figure it's possible, looking at some of Activision's games such as Barnstorming and Chopper Command... That Zaxxon looks awesome. Be cool to have one like that, along with Baby Pac-man for the 2600 or 7800.lol

Zach
I don't think Pengo needs to be on the list anymore. I just found out the ROM image I've had all these years was a prototype. It's still short of johnnywc quality, but Atari did a much better job than I had realized.
keilbaca
Atari did do a badass job on Pengo. If anything needs to be made, IMO, its Turbo.
ZylonBane
There does seem to be a conspicuous absence of homebrew racing games, doesn't there? I've always wondered why there was never a motorcycle racing game for the 2600. They'd be much easier for the 2600 to draw than race cars. But the constrained nature of Lunar Lander's terrain makes a better solution possible. If you don't mind 30Hz flicker, it's possible to have a smoothly-rotating ship (in a 25x21-pixel bounding box) overlaid on a high-resolution 96x85 background (background displayed every other scan line). No extra RAM required (!)

Inky
I'd really like to see the nexthomebrew conversion be something groundbreaking, and IMHO, Baby Pac-Man would be a great thing to try and pull off. My #2 would be a more faithful Zaxxon And #3 would be Tron.
supercat
Ick. Full-screen, please. 96 pixels is a bit narrow, but 85 double scan lines is pretty close to the full screen height. Add about 3 lines of readouts at the top and/or bottom and it would be full height.

Lord Helmet
I'll second Tron. It's at the top of my wish list. I'd also like to see the initial FB2 releases of Asteroids Deluxe and Space Duel fixed or rewritten.

Add about 3 lines of readouts at the top and/or bottom and it would be full height. IMO 96 pixels is too narrow unless it is the only way. Couple that with 30 Hz flicker and I don't think that's a good solution, though it was a very impressive tech demo.
ZylonBane
30Hz flicker would be fine when dealing with faux-vector graphics. It's only when you have large solid blocks of color flickering (as in the FB2 Lunar Lander) that it gets unbearable.
Retrofan
Now my new wishlist (without the not realistic games for the VCS hardware): Finish: Elevator Action Rewrite: Mr. Do, Zaxxon? Make: Mappy, Bomb Jack, Scramble, Arkanoid (in that order) (if Pixelboy's Zaxxon mockup (I like it very much) is not doable here is one with vertical scrolling. The basic idea is the same as in Activisions Riverraid)
Cybergoth
Hey, now you definitely need to update your vcs page with all the cool new mockups!
