I wasn't going to buy it but then I got an discount offer ($49+shipping), and started looking into its history/origin--maybe to the point where it started feeling a little like mild cyber-stalking. 🤣 The sticks a bit different than my usual style, with a project-box case, Japanese controls, and an astro city(?) layout. But I really like a good story, so even though I don't have this thing yet, here's what I know of the story: Ebay pics. (embiggen) (embiggen bottom) Quote "Hand Built By Benj Edwards. Serial #1. BX-108 Neo. 2019" So who is Benj Edwards? Currently one of Ars Technica's writers (and several other outlets), with a story right on the front page today: (embiggen) (embiggen page snap) Also defunct pages at Vintagecomputing.com, benjedwards.com, and probably most importantly bxfoundry.com And (Twitter), which is apparently where these were sold initially. Also...checking the '@' function...he's a member here on AA, but with no posts, so @BenjEdwards So that leaves us looking at the history of the 'BX' line, carefully snipped and reassembled from the waback machine of vintagecomputing.com, along with twitter posts giving us an idea on pricing from an SNES one, as well as the custom board inside it. I also notice by 2021 he'd switched from hand-signing the bottom, to a sticker. Also not sure if he bothered with a custom board for mine--it'd keep things neater, but there's no need for electronics in a neo controller, so its usefulness would be limited to cable-management. It'll be fun to see once it arrives here. SNES twitter advert: (embiggen) (embiggen internals) (unreadable as a thumbnail) Pricing seems to have been in the $200-250 range I also recall back in the day this mention of a benj virtual boy stick at retrorgb. Huh, who'd guess a stick from this guy would ever wind up in my collection of hand built neo geo controllers. I bought it from 'Retro Reclaimation' on ebay, which seems to sell estate/thrift-shop kinds of things, so maybe an unhappy ending for the original owner. Other hand made neo sticks in my collection posted to this thread: the Butteroj stick, MAS Stick, and my own Colt 45 stick. Some other BX sticks, the robotron one looks fun.
