Lynxpro
This accessory has been long rumored to have been built but Dan "The TrakBall Man" Kramer just located this prototype [and posted this pic to FaceBook] proving Atari Inc did indeed create a Dual 7800 ProLine Joystick Coupler accessory but Atari Corp failed to bring it to market. How many of us would've purchased this for use with Robotron: 2084 on the 7800? I know I would have! Lynxpro
Sorry, posting issues... Now imagine 2 ProLines with Yurkie's modded ball tops inserted into that coupler! Trebor
Would be great for a port of Smash TV too. 2 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/225767-its-official-atari-inc-did-create-a-dual-7800-proline-joystick-coupler/#findComment-2997217 Share on other sites
Lynxpro
Would be great for a port of Smash TV too. Or Battlezone. Or Vindicators. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/225767-its-official-atari-inc-did-create-a-dual-7800-proline-joystick-coupler/#findComment-2997221 Share on other sites
Trebor
Xybots too! OOOOoooo...A port of, or the (previously) Japanese only sequel of, Crazy Climber! 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/225767-its-official-atari-inc-did-create-a-dual-7800-proline-joystick-coupler/#findComment-2997222 Share on other sites
7800
It would be great if that prototype was scanned and 3D printed... then from there, mass produced for the fans. I'd buy one. 10 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/225767-its-official-atari-inc-did-create-a-dual-7800-proline-joystick-coupler/#findComment-2997259 Share on other sites

Great minds think alike. I've already mentioned that to Dan Kramer and Bill Kendrick. Dan will be displaying it - and other protos - at the Sunnyvale Atari Party on June 14th. I'd love to 3D Print the 5200 Joystick Coupler as well because people are charging way too much for it on ePay. 4 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/225767-its-official-atari-inc-did-create-a-dual-7800-proline-joystick-coupler/#findComment-2997276 Share on other sites
iesposta
Here I never thought there would be a reason to use those controllers! That's brilliant, and I would buy it and finally use those original controllers. For me it's the European pads or a custom 7800 stick. 3 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/225767-its-official-atari-inc-did-create-a-dual-7800-proline-joystick-coupler/#findComment-2997322 Share on other sites
fiddlepaddle
Personally, I think those two joysticks are too close together. Never did really like the 5200 coupler. Better off with two controllers duct taped to a 2x4. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/225767-its-official-atari-inc-did-create-a-dual-7800-proline-joystick-coupler/#findComment-2997334 Share on other sites
Trebor
I need a Atari 7800 adapter for my HotRod SE and I would be perfectly set. 2 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/225767-its-official-atari-inc-did-create-a-dual-7800-proline-joystick-coupler/#findComment-2997339 Share on other sites
+bennybingo
I have one of these... …IMHO, it's the best thing since sliced bread! 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/225767-its-official-atari-inc-did-create-a-dual-7800-proline-joystick-coupler/#findComment-2997341 Share on other sites

Seen that, but a deal breaker for me is the 7800 independent button support. Does the controller actually support two independent buttons for the 7800, or does it behave more like an Atari 2600 joystick connected to the 7800; better yet, like an (unmodified) Genesis gamepad regarding button assignment (?) IIRC, it does support 2 button, but it has been a while since I tried it with anything other than Robotron….I may have to hook it up and get back to you. AtariBrian
I think 25 shipped is a great price for them . I have seen a few that were cracked and or broken and they barely exist as it is . 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/225767-its-official-atari-inc-did-create-a-dual-7800-proline-joystick-coupler/#findComment-2997991 Share on other sites
Lynxpro
What are people asking for them typically nowadays? $30+ or more used without either Robotron: 2084 or Space Dungeon. Plus, I'd love to see them in different colors than just black.
