Hacking the score display would be doable but look so out of place at the top of the screen. "GO" can easily reuse the fruit sprite routine. I think people are asking too much out of this game. I remember hearing that song on Mix 97.3 when they used to do 80s weekends twice a month; good times... at least up until a couple years ago when they changed formats to the new i97 with post-millennial pop/dance, ugg. At least still we've got 98 Rocks that hasn't changed their format in over 30 years. Now whenever I'm in the mood for commercial free 80s pop or classic rock, I just turn on the Sirius/XM to 80s on 8 or Classic Rewind 25. I stared at the GO logo and it was the first song that popped in my head. I played mine for a couple years to follow. It was the most misunderstood, underrated, cheated system ever. That's a whole different thread. I have since been able to set mine back up in the game room! As far as Wham, Wake me up... I guess 1984 was about that time. I thought it was was a little older. The Hall & Oats song does take me back. I remember Private Eyes being the REAL memory jogger. Atari and elementary school roller skating trips (not that I am really that old). I remember the "cool" kids would skate in a circle. The they would clap after "Private Eyes" (clap)(clap) "They're watching you!" lol. I didn't when I was 12 Let me tell you that my heart truly went out to you when I read that! (I think I remember reading that in the other forum!) That sucks. I was a tinkerer. I had to destroy a ribbon cable in one controller before I learned the secret. It was a shame they were truly unreliable. I didn't think they were bad at all when working. They were expensive though too! $25 a piece was insane back then. (I remember Montgomery Ward eventual had an advertised price for the entire system for $50. I begged Mom to get it, as it would replace both sticks and provide a backup system.) As all of the sticks eventually failed, I realized that placing a piece of metal across the ribbon cable contacts would close the circuit. I also realized that a hole punch was about the same size of the graphite pads on the back of the rubber buttons. (I didn't understand there was graphite on the rubber, and it totally confused me as to HOW that closed the circuit for the button.) I started punching out aluminum foil holes, using a hole punch, and I would super glue them to the rubber circles on the back of all the buttons. After that, I rarely had an issue. A couple times, an aluminum hole punch came unglued and caused an issue, but that was usually a good fix. Later, I bought powdered graphite. I rub it into the rubber pads. That works well, as long as the excess is cleaned off. This lesson actually saved me when my keyless entry remote suffered from the 5200 syndrome. I still had the graphite, and I fixed it as good as new. So, there's a lesson on the magic of graphite. Are you still planning to expand it to 8k to make it even better? It's already light years better than the previous "4k" edition, but hey, every little bit helps. I hope to own this on cart someday. In this version I use the reg "vblank" to see if that is the cause of "slowdown" that said Albert is happening in your machine.
