+Larry
Huh? What does the XEP80 have to do with Sophia or the GTIA? Am I missing something? The XEP80 gets its video information via a joystick port if I recall correctly. EDIT: Maybe you meant to say how does the Sophia look with 80 column bit mapped output (Last Word, ect.) as compared to the XEP80. If that's the case, I haven't tried 80 column on my Sophia yet, but I wouldn't be able to give it a fair comparison since I no longer own an XEP80 (had one back in the early 90's). - Michael Nope-- forgot that it connects directly! But the software 80 should still be a good question. -Larry

robbievgb
I got my USB blaster from digikey, there's a $300 one and a $50 one. I got the $50 one and it works fine. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

ijor
Makes you wonder what the difference is between them! The brand. The $300 USB Blaster is the "original" Altera (now Intel) cable. The $50 one is the Terasic version. Terasic is a very close official Altera partner. I think they even developed the USB Blaster protocol. So even when much cheaper than the Altera cable, it is still high quality. That is not a cheap clone. There is also Altera USB Blaster II. The difference is that it adds support for USB 2.0 hi-speed. It might make a difference when programming a high cost FPGA that uses hugely sized cores. In our case, we don't really care.
Sk8er000
I've soledered some dupont on the bottom of the pcb because I didn't want to wait for the connector to arrive, this update is great, now on my setup the color are correct! with the olt firmware the red was magenta on my 5200! NOW: http://imgur.com/a/tGDno BEFORE: http://imgur.com/a/nMPrl you can see the red also here: http://imgur.com/a/w57Ki thank you very much! P.S. During the first falshing attempts I got an "error 44" in my case is because I was using an usb extender to reach the console. When I removed it all worked! +Philsan
I found the time to test Sophia with new PAL firmware too. Picture quality's perfect and colors are very close to Altirra PAL palette. Sophia is the best video upgrade, for everyone because it's solderless (on socketed GTIA machines).

+Philsan
Irgendwer is right, we have a problem on the right side of the image. Simius, could you test your Sophia with the attached Atari Control Picture Program? Perhaps it's only my Sophia board faulty. Irgendwer
Good catch. There's also some image data being shown that shouldn't. This is what it should look like: ... I think it's related to the timed transition in PRIOR. Some demos make use of it too (e.g. http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=736- I think this won't work either (there a second demo with a depiction of a trainer on a tv-screen using this mode, but I've forgot the name)). I wonder if http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=5989looks correct. To bad, the crisp display is very adorable, but that the GR.10 delay is unsupported makes this GTIA replacement not attractive for me (HIP, JAG-graphics ( http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=6309) ). +Philsan
So Sophia firmware is still not perfect. I checked Ilusia and No Signal: if I am not wrong they are good. On the contrary, Our5oft right part is black and white instead of colored.

carlminer
The new CPLD solution is already working. Features: Standard RGB output Sharp, clean image True 256 colors 16 luminance levels available in all graphics modes. Two colors in hi-resolution graphics P/M colissions, trigger inputs and consol keys are supported by the old chip. The tests takes some time. The decision on the mass production depends on the interest. How do I order one of these boards?
