Dauber
I guess it's time to make this announcement. Many -- including myself -- have asked Phil if he planned to cover homebrews in his podcast. Unfortunately, he said no, just the official releases. Well, this is where The Atari 7800 Homebrew Podcast steps in. Episode zero is out now. I welcome all feedback. Here are the details: - E-mail for feedback (text or audio!): homebrew78 -at- fab4it -dot- com - Twitter: @homebrew78 - Home page/show notes page: homebrew78.fab4it.com - Available on iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, and maybe a couple of other providers I'm forgetting about. - And, uhhh....already have a give-away going on...listen for details. Just as Phil would do, I'll post game-related feedback requests on the Atari 7800 forum. Wish me luck. ferghead
I can get Pie Factory on my Windows phone podcast app, but not this. Is that possible to do?
Dauber
I can get Pie Factory on my Windows phone podcast app, but not this. Is that possible to do? Well, I looked into it...apparently, not easily. Unlike with iTunes, Stitcher, Google, iHeartRadio, etc., you can't really submit a podcast. What you have to do is wait for Bing to discover the podcast. The only way to actually somehow pseudo-submit the podcast is to go to webmaster tools and submit the web site that hosts the podcast, which I just did, so hopefully that'll do something. Of COURSE Microsoft isn't following standards.
Dauber
Hey, all...just wanted to get some thoughts...two issues: 1) At the end of each episode, I announce what game I'll be covering on the next episode. Should I also add, say, additional games that I should be covering in the near future? 2) There is no rhyme or reason as to which game I choose to cover next, except maybe by developer. Like, I'm trying to not do, say, five PacManPlus games in a row (although given his output that might be impossible to avoid!)...but having said that, any requests as to what I should do soon? One caveat is that I will not be covering Pac-Man Collection! for a while yet simply because of the sheer amount of work that will need to go into that one; when I do get around to it, it is possible that it will be a two-part episode.

Or perhaps they did it for me, I got an email early on that said I was added to the Zune Marketplace, which I think was the base for that.

For #2, how about the following... Alpha Race (SIO2) - http://atariage.com/forums/topic/242654-alpha-race-for-atari-7800/?hl=+alpha%20+race?st=0 Frenzy (PMP) Dungeon Stalker (Atarius Maximus) Astro Blaster / Astro Fighter (PMP) Donkey Kong XM (tep392) - http://atariage.com/forums/topic/204250-donkey-kong-xm-pre-order-and-demo/?hl=+donkey%20+kong%20+xm?st=0 These are just suggestions, and I won't be upset by any selection of games. I'm just happy to have a 7800 Homebrew podcast to listen to.
Dauber
Would love to cover DKXM, but is that even playable in emulation yet???
+sramirez2008
Hmm. Good point. I recently picked up a DKXM cart from a fellow AA member.
Dauber
Episode 2 is available now! I take a deep dive into K.C. Munchkin!, the Pac-Man clone that launched a thousand lawsuits (or so it seems)! Cynicaster
I haven't even played any 7800 homebrews but that is not preventing me from enjoying this podcast. I dig the format so far; the background stories are well-researched and interesting, and the "content-specific" skit bits are a welcome change of pace from the usual Siri voice thing.
+TrekMD
I'm still listening to episode 1 but so far so good. I'm liking the format and I do like that you include Easter Eggs but don't really mention them until the end of the episode. That's a nice way to let people enjoy the episode and just not listen to that if they don't want to. As for the game, Beef Drop is one of my favorites on the 7800 so it made for a great first choice as far as I'm concerned. There are even hacks of the game that add more mazes and even a Christmas Hack (I haven't finished listening yet so not sure if you mentioned these on the podcast). I'm looking forward to episode 2 and more!
JFD62780
Yo, Dauber! I'm mainly an emulated 7800 player, but I'm still enjoying your new-ish podcast greatly; up to episode 3 in fact. That so-called Burgertime clone where you have to jump on the patties for them to drop? That's Data East's own 1990 arcade sequel, Super Burger Time! (As found on a MAME collection.) Sure, everything's bigger, but you're right; just can't beat the classics...

I had never heard of that game until I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago while playing random games. It has some interesting ideas but yeah... something was lost in translation, I think.
Dauber
Episode 3 takes a look at the lesser-known Omega Race-inspired homebrew from Brek Brixius. Rumor has it Sean is also giving something away. Is that rumor unfounded? Listen and find out! JFD62780
. . . Forgive me for calling the KC ep 'Episode 3'; apparently my brain divided by 'Episode 0' and was like, "Uhhmmm....." ...whoops! XD And incidentally, the current MAME (.182, also available on Mac OS X for 64-bit Intel via SDLMAME) has 7800 compatibility that's supposed to rival the famed ProSystem emulator. In fact it's supposed to render the graphics in Commando corruption free! Edited January 29, 2017 by JFD62780
Dauber
Y'see...that's what happens when you have these wise-ass podcasters calling their first episode "episode zero." That's the thing, though...using MAME for anything other than arcade games has been a huge hassle for me...but I'll try some 7800 stuff.
