Very Nice! Great timing. I just got back my updated OG Concerto a couple of days ago.

I appreciate your efforts in chasing all these down and compiling this pack. It’s been a great year for the 7800. And with 2 SD carts available as of now you might need to carve out more time to keep up with this stuff. [emoji6]

yea, romhunter is awesome :) but I already knew about that, and was looking for all the homebrewness :) Did that Strongbad 2600 game ever get a demo or anything?

I'm guessing you're talking about the Homestar Runner RPG by Paul Slocum. There are three demo binaries available, each showing off different aspects of the game:

- One that has an Intro story and a Map Demo, in game music, can't go inside buildings (Labelled Demo, 2003)

- One that has a simulated battle screen against a Robot, no in game music, can go inside buildings (Labelled Demo #2, 2004?)

- One that has no battles, no intro story, can go inside buildings, has in game music (Labelled Demo#2, 2004)

You can watch the coverage of the game we did on ZeroPage Homebrew on July 11, 2018 below it starting at 53:25

Thank you!

And it is awesome to see how much interest there is in developing for this once-unloved console.  Hats off to everyone writing software for the 7800 today!

Found a dingleberry: Concerto doesn't recognise 7ix.a78 (in Homebrews) as a valid file type.  Just FYI :-D

Probably because it is 28kb. I think part of the file is missing.

@Trebor: quick question: what are your thoughts regarding a subdirectory under Homebrews for Concerto / Dragonfly / etc. fixed ROMs?  Their numbers are only going to grow over time, and while having the official releases is fantastic for reference, this would allow for keeping playable versions alongside them without having to worry about too much pollution of the official versions.

It’s not quite the same thing, but Rom Hunter does the same with his 2600 collection. The archive has a separate “HC” folder to extract for use in a Harmony Cart. The same ROMs are organized a few different ways - by publisher alphabetically, and by name alphabetically. A lot of work to organize it all to this level of detail though.

Yep, and the level of work to organise it is where I was seeing the fly in the ointment.  The 7800 *might* be less of a PITA to do it for given that it has fewer titles than the 2600, but I'm under no illusions that it would be additional work.  And trebor would probably appreciate it if I wasn't trying to make sure he had less free time than he does now ;)

@Pat Brady may be able to offer insight.  That is the ROM (data size) provided.

If it is a universal fix for a ROM, it is already present under the hacks folder, since it's a hack of the way the original ROM data is presented.

Ideally, with perhaps very few exceptions for a specific title/ROM, a flash cart and/or emulator/simulator is improved to better mimic how the console would treat the same data when presented as a standalone cart.  As the simulation/emulation is improved, the number of impacted titles should shrink rather than grow when speaking in light of pure compatibility towards the internal data/bank-switching schemes/etc.

Respecting 2600 ROM files, they are just pure binaries without headers.  The *.a26 file format is simply a rename of the *.bin format.  For *.a78 files it is quite different, there is a header that needs to be checked and maintained.  As a title is developed, the presentation of the header data may need updating as the support needs of the title being worked on changes.

While certainly understanding the consideration, if pursued, it would be quite the undertaking.  The Mateos cart alone would require a unique ROM file for what is near 800 entries now.  The Dragonfly cart, from my understanding, utilizes an 8.3 file naming convention.  The MCP DevCart needs binary files - no headers - and the bankswitching hotspot @$3000.  For every ROM released, the means maintaining at least four different formats of a ROM file.  One for Mateos, one for DragonFly, one for MCPDev Cart, and one version for what works in other places: (most) emulators, MiSTer, Concerto, etc.  If, I were to stop just there.

Those still clinging to the ProSystem emulator, the appropriate *.dat entry needs to be provided often with the *.a78 file, if not also hacking the actual ROM data to make it work.  BupSystem ideally supports a *.cdf (Cartridge Descriptor file) format.  It's the only way currently to run Rikki & Vikki in its full glory.  Approximately, 800 *.cdf files would take a great amount of time to produce.  Both would now be additional items to support.

It quickly becomes either quite the rabbit hole, or very selective on what formats and ROM presentations to include or exclude.  What is currently provided is a well-documented, understood format, and naming convention that works for the majority.  While not definitively stating this will always stay the same, the current presentation will remain as is for at least the near future.

Thank you for inquiring though.  I've been meaning to explain the current provisions, why *this* is included and *that* is not, hopefully everyone has a better understanding.  Love supporting the community, being among all the great talents, the players, the testers, the wonderous hardware and software developments, but only so much time and resources I can place into it as well.  Though you never know what the future holds.

Wow, that was quick! Subfolders added before I could even ask for them after having downloaded the previous release as the first thing for my Concerto!

It's really a bug. The file is what I provided. It was supposed to be 32k, but since I didn't actually put anything in the bottom 4k, dasm cheerfully (and correctly, I now understand) omitted it.

Anyway, there should be a new version before Trebor's next ROMPack release.

My apologies if this is one of those "stupid questions" you guys see so often, but regarding Donkey Kong PK -- the only version of this I see included is in the Homebrew folder and labeled (Demo) v1.2.  Is this the current, completed version, or is there a non-demo version of the game somewhere?  I have the game on cart, and didn't think it was a demo.
