New Atari Console that Ataribox?

The 32GB eMMC is definitely the weakest point of what they've announced, and I'm surprised they haven't walked that back yet. It's enough for Linux but insufficient for Windows in my experience.

Real question is will it be powerful enough to surf porn on the internet. Cause that will happen, it will be the first Atari porn capable box. Saw a video this year officially stating where PS4 is used to surf more porn than Xbox now. Crazy what they track. But didnt the Atarii 2600 have some of the first porn games? Unofficial of course but it had them as Ive read. Full circle...

You can certainly run Windows 10 on some low spec hardware. For what it's worth, my main HTPC is also based on an A10 (the 2012 vintage model) and it's reasonably snappy. I was never going to render HD videos on it, and its days of playing current AAA games might be long gone, but it's still more than adequate for media functionality.

Rather, the issue with the VCS is that it doesn't sound like they're going to set up the hardware to make it easy for you. If it's got a secure bootloader that won't let you install anything on the internal eMMC, you'll be reliant on running it from an external USB drive and even that'll probably require some sort of hack.

And yeah, even if you could access the eMMC, 32GB is a bit tight. You could fit Windows 10 on there, but only just and there'd be very little room left for software. You'd also have to be quite careful about managing the space, because even the automatically downloaded updates would probably fill it up quite soon.

The bottom line is that you shouldn't expect this to be a great Windows machine. It might still be OK at running Linux though.

Agreed, but even under Linux it's going to sap performance. Swap space on eMMC? Ugh.

I'm sure the legions of homebrew developers flocking to the AtariVCSbollocks will find that gcc does just fine on it when building and linking, though, because compiling never, ever, under any circumstances involves a bajillion read / write cycles...*

* I was lying through my teeth as hard as I could when I typed that sentence. P.S.: buy an Isuzu.

I've made NES carts, haven't added any to the store yet, but planning on doing so.

Cool beans.

Mine was an Atari 2600 game, not an NES game. (see my signature)

My bad, thought you mentioned something about an NES game.

It's hard to see how this thing "caters" to any market. It's way too small to be a good boat anchor, but more memory at the same price is always welcome, even if it's not needed. Atari Vault only needs 2GB RAM, and Tempest 4000 (not on Linux yet) is supposed to run in 4GB.

That got me thinking...

It takes 1-2 weeks for me to get orders out (sometimes sooner, sometimes longer). I'm finishing up a large batch of games now and will have them out in a few days. Then the cycle repeats. Games are built to order--if I had a huge inventory of games sitting on shelves I'd be able to ship much more quickly, but that's not the case, unfortunately.

This is (now) stated during the checkout process, but I'm not sure how many people actually read that paragraph of text. :)

Who has time to read details!!!

Lol

Its cool having to wait..anticipation and all, its a little bit like Christmas really :0

Plus back in the day we had to wait for games, Fits the old school games well to have to wait a wee bit.

AtariSA is thinking about looking into announcing an announcement about their next press release. My French is a little sketchy, but I think I overheard something about Windows being an option someday. Specifically, I heard the phrase, "95 is bigger than 10."

Balls Debuffed.

AtariCloud sold separately. It will be interesting to see if they rebrand someone else's cloud storage as their own, or if they just say "bring your own storage."

Yes.

AtariCloud will be a real thing.

And that thing will be a cloud-shaped USB drive with their logo slapped on it.

Today is Tempest 4000 release day—another non-exclusive for the Nutaribawks!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/688140/Tempest_4000/

The Windows version costs $10 less than the Xbone/PS4 version, but doesn't sound like as good a port as it could be:

Some interesting info in this article.

"But that Atari link has grown sour in recent years, with Minter publicly decrying the current "company" (which he chidingly calls "Infogrames," since that was the company's name before it bought Atari's rights) and paraphrasing their last legal threat in 2015 as follows: "Give us personal information about your finances or we will fuck you up."

I work with some data centers in the NY area and apparently Atari is hammering out a deal to lease two very large cages to house their upcoming cloud service equipment. They were originally only looking to lease one cage but decided to double it. There was also mention of Atari requiring the installation of a taco vending machine in the lobby.
