people want to know what happens. he clearly lied.

its not like his scores are coming back.

he will have to pay the legal costs too.

Twin Galaxies restores Billy Mitchell’s scores following legal settlement

The long, drawn-out legal fight between famed high-score chaser Billy Mitchell and "International Scoreboard" Twin Galaxies appears to be over. Twin Galaxies announced Tuesday morning that it "shall heretofore reinstate all of Mr. Mitchell’s scores as part of the official historical database on Twin Galaxies’ website."

The statement comes days after Courthouse News reported that Mitchell and Twin Galaxies had reached a confidential settlement in a defamation case surrounding Mitchell's 2018 removal from the Twin Galaxies scoreboard.

In its statement, Twin Galaxies relies on recent testimony from Dr. Michael Zayda, who was presented as an expert at the trial. Zayda's testimony concluded that Mitchell's submitted gameplay "could in fact depict play on original unmodified Donkey Kong arcade hardware if the hardware involved was malfunctioning, likely due to degradation of components."

what could it mean :

I don't have a problem with it, but then again, I felt the entire thing was ridiculous from the get go.  Not for nothing, Billy doesn't hold ANY records anymore nor will he ever, correct?  The Donkey Kong scores have been surpassed multiple times anyway.

Not surprised with the legal settlement either, as Twin Galaxies' "canceling" of his slate of scores was quite subjective, and again, I wouldn't trust 90% of what was on there to begin with, for anybody.  Anything without an in person referee can never be truly verified, and good Heavens anything done in the 80s and 90s, merely on video tape or worse, a polaroid?  Most of what Walter used to post were completely made up, like ol' Steve Saunders.  I said the new TG board should have just changed the requirements for verification, without singling out Mitchell, and made the old stuff "non-canon."

From the TG website:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/twin-galaxies/wall/12585/twin-galaxies-statement

In case there is confusion:

1. Is Billy still banned from Twin Galaxies competition?

Yes.

2. Are Billy's world records going back onto the main leaderboards?

No.

3. Has the opinion of Twin Galaxies changed regarding Billy's Donkey Kong scores?

No.

-----

Twin Galaxies has no problem acknowledging that there is an expert out there that has a different opinion than the one Twin Galaxies has. We very much believe that it is important that people are aware of all the information so they can make their own judgements. If people have questions about what that expert has to say, then they can inquire with that person.

On the Twin Galaxies side of things, nothing has changed - except that we are excited to have the old historic database publicly available so people can see what used to be. Thats something that TG should always have as part of history.

-----------

Further:

Mitchell's scores appear on "The Original TG Historical Database," a newly created section of the site that serves as a "historical archive of the original score database, copied verbatim from the system obtained during Twin Galaxies' acquisition in 2014." That "unmodified, legacy snapshot preserv[es] performances and achievements predating the current TG ownership and modern adjudication protocols," Twin Galaxies writes.

My guess is TG got tired of all the expense and BS and called it a day.  Billy would continue to find some "new evidence" and drag this out forever.  I think its win win - TG gets to move on from Billy and Billy gets to continue to perform on the side show circuit making his own medals and plaques to show off.

Anyone in the industry knows his latest "expert" has no real answer other than one a non technical judge could accept:
""could in fact depict play on original unmodified Donkey Kong arcade hardware if the hardware involved was malfunctioning, likely due to degradation of components."

If the above is true then he didnt achieve a world record since the hardware was malfunctioning according to his expert.

HA HA!  This is literally what I said TG new owners should have done years ago, and they likely would never have had a lawsuit to pay legal fees on!
