On english websites/channels, I think they are just called new games. Especially Xeno Crisis, Tanglewood are not refered as homebrew.

To be a bit more specific: homebrew also often refers to hacks of a existing software/games, isn't it?

Oh OK. But these games were a lot more mentioned by general gaming websites, so I don't think it's specific to Genesis. Since "new games on old systems" represent about a third of the games I tackle at my website, I need a word to differentiate them more easily. I also use the word 'demake' which is also very specific to retrogaming for instance. Big VG websites don't necessarily need that.

If Razion, Xenocider, Xenocrisis, Tänzer, and Tanglewood are homebrew, there can be no negative connotation to it in those people’s minds.

EDIT: although that page on Sega-16 seems to have been abandoned in favor of an “aftermarket games” tag that is not super helpful as it includes all of the reissues of games that were commercially released in the system’s lifetime… https://segaretro.org/Category:Mega_Drive_aftermarket_games

So maybe this is an evolving terminology shift. In any case, whatever you call them, they are what I am most excited about in video gaming right now for most systems.

Indie games evolved from homebrew or "amateur games", so to speak.

They are usually focusing on polished artwork and gameplay mechanics. Some try to be entertainment art, akin to independent film of new ways of expression and narration.

Last but not least they are not free, but commercial releases.

But Sturmwind by Duranik, Gunlord or Last Hope by NG Dev are not listed as DC homebrew. Hm....
