PRGE Photos

A few brief videos of some of the other PRGE flavors.  It was really wonderful to see such creativity in all forms this weekend.

A brief snippet of Rex Viper playing Friday night at PRGE 2023 - they were a lot of fun:   https://youtu.be/U7Z_VW0v6FA

The Unipiper playing for the crowd waiting in line Sunday morning.  I was wearing my Unipiper T-shirt so I had to get some video:  https://youtu.be/FtGr3TBm-GY

The merch game is really getting raised.  AtariAge had some really nice clothing options.  I went for the white T-shirt.  Very soft material!

AtariAge was also handing out some nice cloth bags with orders:

I was also fortunate to snag one of Tanya's beautiful coasters and some ZPH stickers.

What, exactly, is he trying to have happen with Pac-Man here? Curious mostly. :)

I can't tell but is he trying to get Pac-Man stuck in the escape route? I remember discovering that when I was a kid and Pac would glitch out by looping vertically down (or up) the screen.

I see Garry Kitchen was in a panel, at least that's what it looks like from the photo.  Anybody ask him about what's going on with Audacity?

Casey's Gold and other titles are coming -- that's the info that Garry shared during the homebrew panel.

@darryl1970 found a new bug in Pac-Man that Tod did not know about and he was reproing it for him. A new bug discovered after 40 years!!!

I saw someone in a video doing a stunt at the bottom border. Is that the bug? Can you give some details?

Al had three 2600+’s set up with a selection of cartridges to play. I played pitfall on one of them for a whole. I liked the system, it seems very solid and well made and looks great.

We actually had five 2600+ systems and two Atari VCS systems setup.  This was the first time in the US anyone's been able to try them out at an event like this!  :)

I'd never been to PRGE before (much less help set up a booth), so this was all new to me. Pictures just don't do the scale of the place justice.

So I'm not going to post any.

:ponder:

Nah... I'll post some. But I can see why pictures usually don't get posted during the show - everyone's too busy. Plus I just didn't have the presence of mind to do it. Way too busy.

I helped John @johnnywc and his brother Paul (along with Steve @sramirez2008) set up the Champ Games booth, and spent a good chunk of time assembling games.

Booth-in-progress (thanks to Albert for loaning us the 2600s and monitors!) :

While John was en route from the east coast, I tested and set up all of the consoles and monitors.

IMG_2292.thumb.jpeg.0224288ae134a8e269f7a7cfc55134fc.jpeg

And I put up signs for our newest game: "Acrylic Sign Holders!" Coming soon to the Atari 2600!

Too many posters, not enough table:

I spent Friday night putting labels on carts. John spent Friday night putting actual games on them. Can't get any fresher than that!

Saturday is pretty-much a blur. But John, his brother Paul, Chris @cd-w and Steve @sramirez2008 are all in this photo someplace. It was great meeting people I'd only read posts from or had seen on ZPH. But it was a little strange meeting people I'd seen videos of, since I was accustomed to seeing and hearing them, but I (intentionally) tend to keep a low profile. So to me it was like, "Oh, there's Al and James and Tanya". To them it was like, "Who's that guy?"

Games!

More games!

IMG_2308.thumb.jpeg.a596369b6855f551e1d66b407803730f.jpeg

Piles of games ready for sale on Saturday! We sold all of these and more.

IMG_2307.thumb.jpeg.fae030320b76cb5e2c6385db94bd2587.jpeg

We had to burn and assemble more games for Sunday, and we were still selling them!

IMG_2321.thumb.jpeg.6d851a8194ff8e172d04dfd8c5b0196f.jpeg

Did I mention it was a big place? We had a good spot though. Across from one of the main walls, near the doors. We had nice booth neighbors as well.

IMG_2309.thumb.jpeg.29987e02d6f15fede8a01b9e2f3b8970.jpeg

The. Place. Was. Huge.

IMG_2313.thumb.jpeg.125c4c860c7c8eda74ba5cbe4313b5b0.jpeg

I have no idea what the attendance was. But there were some places so crowded you couldn't walk through them.

IMG_2310.thumb.jpeg.2e78c51867775215a4bc8dbca4b86f0e.jpeg

They had a ton of consoles set up to play. I never really got over there until Sunday afternoon.

They had a lot of these small HDTVs (which are no longer available). I don't know if they're any good, but they sure look the part:

IMG_2324.thumb.jpeg.e00fa25f9c06af2a495f6c1238875d94.jpeg

I did see one familiar game in the bunch...

IMG_2326.thumb.jpeg.2f785bb21b605640dc463686582474a5.jpeg

And of course, they had the requisite 70's living room set up:

IMG_2330.thumb.jpeg.55cf62e5820d1bb64c0732b66e175f26.jpeg

You couldn't pay me to sit on those bean bags though... not without throwing a layer of plastic over them first. The body odor there was... impressive...

IMG_2331.thumb.jpeg.364ae2023304c14eaa2be0b19e37a3cd.jpeg

Just noticed the angry guy in the Luigi hat taking a picture of me taking a picture of him... sorry 'bout that.

They had a small gaming museum of sorts. Mostly Nintendo Power artwork (so much bad airbrushing...), and a history of the Jaguar. Loved seeing the dental camera and a re-creation of the infamous Chameleon:

IMG_2318.thumb.jpeg.5ec723423fc86720dc409f6c51b15a6b.jpeg

There was even someone else there selling games for the 2600. Didn't catch their name though. They should work on their branding. ;)

I had hoped to spend more time in the arcade, but didn't have much time, and I found the selection a little disappointing (quite a few were out-of-order). I didn't really get any pictures either. Except one...

Huh... wonder who "JWC" was?

Oh well.

;)

It was great to meet you @Nathan Strum. You were so busy in the Champ Games booth assembling games on Saturday that I decided to not pester you with fanboy questions. I bothered Steve and Paul instead :) I've admired your work for a long time and was stoked to see you in person. We even shook hands after pizza but I forgot to ask to take a photo. I see that you're in Seattle as I am. Maybe we can meet up for coffee some time ;)

It was absolutely hilarious watching @darryl1970 reproduce this bug for Tod, who had never seen it before!

It’s hard to describe while keeping it PG. Tod got a real kick out of watching Darryl “vigorously” work the joystick in order to get Pac-Man stuck in just the right position within the escape route. Once you find it, Pac-Man starts floating vertically (top to bottom) across the screen.

As always, the expo was tons of fun due to all of the people, within our community, that attend.

Yeah, that really was a wonderful moment, and Tod is always intentionally hilarious.  :)

Absolutely!  The community makes all the work ahead of the event worth every minute of preparation involved.

I've known about this bug since the early 80s :ponder:. Getting Pac-Man stuck in the escape route is one of my core 2600 memories from childhood! I would do it at the top escape route but wouldn't get too aggressive with the wiggling (lol). Just enough to keep Pac from coming back out.
