I know this is a thread about collecting so it probably doesn’t apply, but if you have a Harmony cart, try the home brew version “Chaotic Grill” which you can download here in the 2600 Programming section. It’s Soooooo much better than the Mattel one.

Thanks John.

I'm new to this Harmony Cart. I heard you can only play one game at a time on it with the 2600+. I am assuming you just swipe out micro sd's on it with individual games.

My biggest question to you is, is Popeye 7800 available to get and put on the harmony cart?

Love that homebrew (although I've developed at least some appreciation for the M-Network original), but have you gotten CG working on 2600+ with the Harmony cart?  I think it's DPC+ or something and may need a new .arm file?  I dunno, haven't looked into it in a while.

I just tried it. It works fine for me. Harmony Tool v1.3 automatically selected DPC+ with the latest release of CG.

It works fine now. They added DPC+ support a few versions back.

Today I received this nice bunch of cartridges:

cartridges.thumb.jpg.a7fe4241df31c98dce1ed9918f834b65.jpg

According to their labels these are all Secam versions, but as expected these are exactly the same as the PAL versions. So I think it is safe to conclude that only Activision corrected the color palette to Secam for a couple of their games.

But I found one weird thing. The MD5 hashes of Smurf and Schtroumpfs are different. I could not see any changes, certainly the change is not in the color palette because this is what the French saw back in the day when they put a Secam Schtroumpfs cartridge in their Secam 2600 😂

A green Smurf 😂

The Pal Smurfs cartridge in the Secam 2600 shows exactly the same picture.

This is the MD5 hash for the Pal Smurf release:

I feel bad for the French 😂

That's a nice lot you have there.  As for the green Smurfs, they're the long distant cousins of the blue Smurfs.  Lol.

A new addition to my 7800 collection - CIB Ikari Warriors in great condition found on eBay for a reasonable price.

I was trying to find this game immediately after I learned that 2600+ will also play 7800 games. And here it is.

BTW, I have noticed that in contrary to C64 and Atari XE/XL games 7800 versions have quite often different difficulty levels, which of course lets me enjoy them almost 40 years later at the novice difficulty level. 😜

This is my collection of 2600 and 7800 games 😃 so far. Luckily I purchased most of them many many years ago when no one was interested in old Atari games 😉

Scrolling back through a Thread looking for a previous post and came across this one.

I can’t decide which view looks better! 😄

A great version for the 7800. I personally prefer it to Commando.

I shall see soon. I have found Commando cart also in the wild. Should come to me next week.

Commando 7800 is also a great game. The 7800 has such a small library of games, Ikari Warriors and Commando are in the top 5 for me anyway.

I have to look for these. I do have Commando 2600 version but haven’t played that much. What’s the opinion on the 2600 version?

I've never played 2600 Ikari or Commando so can't really say. They both look like decent versions from gameplay videos thou..

I have Ikari, Commando and Frontline on the 2600 and I think they are all pretty good. All quite simplistic, but you couldn't really expect much more from the era they were released. I think I would say that Commando is prooooobably my favourite of the three, but it's very close. All very similar.

When the subject is 7800 Ikari VS Commando, again I prefer Commando, but TBF I haven't played my Ikari cart that much yet.

It was a bit of an impulse buy, but Berzerk Enhanced was recently on sale and so I decided to buy a second copy. I’ll keep my first copy  in good condition and this will be the copy that will get some use.  Also, I hid a light bulb somewhere in this picture.

What lightbulb?  I can't seem to see it, but I do see a sexy game there!  :D

FWIW,  I bought Commando BITD (still have it), and it was a late release (Box says 1985).  I saw it new on store shelves and picked it up 1985 or 1986 probably.  It felt like the old days again for a short time and kind of got me back into Atari for a little while.  I thought they did a good job on it!

I've got a boxed 2600 Commando, too.

The box looks great but the cart has got this cheap plastic, used by Activision for their late releases 😊

I bought 2600 Commando back then, too. I also picked up Double Dragon and 7800 Rampage from those late '80s Activision releases.

I only purchased Commando 2600 loose cart about 10 maybe 15 years ago, when I was getting Atari games for a buck or two. I had in my collection for years never played until the other day! I like it, I never gave it much thought. I didn’t think it would be good.

One of the few boxes I kept... another is H.E.R.O 😊
