My dad's job transferred him from Mexico to Trinidad last year. Trinidad has regulations on bringing in pets, so my mom stayed with me for 5 months with their dogs while waiting for permission to bring them into Trinidad. Permission was finally granted, and I took a week off to help mom bring the dogs. It also gave her more luggage room, of my 2 checked bags, I only used 1/2 of one. The dogs are in quarantine for 30 days. The direct fight from Houston arrives to late for the quarantine dro
I've been attending the Houston Art Crawl for the past few years to support my friend Theresa, who shows off her art during the event. The Art Crawl takes place in various old warehouses downtown that have been converted into artist studios over the years, and is held the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
This was the first year I picked up a piece of art - Pick-Up Sticks by Joyce Dwight.
It's made from dichroic glass and needs to be placed against a dark background, else the shimmering b
Heard Standing on the Shore while watching Entourage. Liked it so much I backed up the DVR and sicked Shazam on it
Their other video, Walking on a Dream, is pretty good too.
They remind me a bit of MGMT - Electric Feel and Time to Pretend
The Houston Art Car Parade started in April 1988, with 40 cars and a crowd of about 2,000. The parade now consists of over 250 cars from all over the country (and Canada), and is estimated to have been seen by 250,000 people!
Even though I moved to Houston in 87, this is the first year that I've made it out to see the parade. I had a blast and plan to watch it each year from now on.
Some of my favorites:

The Crapper Car

Great concert though the opening act Crocodiles didn't leave much of an impression for my buddy Keith and I. Sadly, Keith's fiance got sick and wasn't able to go with us. She'd really been looking forward to the concert.
Ladytron and The Faint are co-headlining. Apparently they're alternating and The Faint played after the opening act in Houston. I'd not heard of The Faint before finding out about this concert. I really enjoyed a number of their songs,

Ladytron's coming back to the US, and this year I know ahead of time!! They'll be in Houston on Monday April 20th (other Texas stops are the 21st in Austin and 22nd in Dallas). They're touring with The Faint, who sound pretty good.
Blitz, new album by KMFDM is coming out in 2 weeks. I've preorded the Blitz Bundle (signed CD, T-Shirt, etc) from KMFDM's online store.
New things I've been listening to:

Mamma's Boy by Chromeo (link to high quality video at end o
I have an old Thinkpad T22 that I used to run OS/2 on, though it's run the Linux distribution Ubuntu for the past few years. I use it as an internet laptop. I dropped it last week and it landed on it's side, jamming the PCMCIA Wireless Network Card into it. While the laptop still boots, it no longer recognizes anything plugged into either PCMCIA slot. Needless to say, an internet laptop that can't access the internet is pretty useless...
This week I was looking at the February Specials f
If you care to look, I've got a few photos up on my site on the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. I may add more later today if I venture out in the neighborhood, though I'm still extremely tired and may end up taking a nap this afternoon.
I "hunkered down" for the storm in the NW part of the city with a group of friends. We stayed up all night and watched the news. We lost power around 11, but one couple brought a generator with them and the satellite dish stayed intact. Power is still out
Got back last night from the family reunion in Wisconsin. Weather was great, though all the Wisconsin folk were complaining about the humidity - while I was busy applying Burt's Beeswax to keep my lips from drying out
Took a lot of photos with my new camera, a Panasonic DMC-TZ5A(the A means it has the blue case, which looks much better in person than the pictures of it). Besides photos it also takes videos, up to 1280x720. There's 7 movies scattered amongst the photos.

Yep, this review is out of order due to it having been the game for HSC Season 5 Week 42. If you're not currently taking part of the 2600 High Score Club then I highly recommend you check it out as you'll get exposed to a lot of really cool games! You can join in mid-season w/out any problems - there's no cost to join, just post a score in the current HSC topic. HSC Season 6 will also be starting up in the near future.

Space Oysters, Pearls and Bombs?!?!
I'd been waiting for the third edition of Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X as the book I had doesn't match the current version of XCode and it was a pain trying to figure things out. For some reason I thought it was being released at the end of summer, but I found out last Friday that it was released last month. So I headed down to Borders and bought a copy. I made it through the first 4 chapters over the weekend.
And based on what I've learned so far, SAVI is now underway. SAVI is pronoun
This weekend I'm planning to get the cartridge selection working on my JStella Online Test. I thought it'd be fun to turn it into a "Homebrew Showcase" as I don't think it's the best idea to be using Space Invaders.
If you'd like me to put your homebrew on the page let me know. I'd like to have a brief description/controls for each game that goes up.

All the switches except power function. I have a few known issues that I'm talking to Mauvila about.
1) any switch except RESET and SELECT causes JStella to lose focus and not respond to the keyboard.
2) Using F keys to set TV Type and Difficulty does not cause the switch graphics to be updated.
3) holding down SELECT only acts as if it was pressed once. Holding down F2 works as expected.
I've added a few new Atari pages to my site, plus updated the "play online" page for Medieval Mayhem. Many thanks to Nathan Strum for his contribution!
Saw Rush's Houston performance last night at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. As always, they put on an excellent show.
I finally got my photo gallery working again(my host relocated some of the graphic tools that Gallery uses for resizing the photos for thumbnails and such) so I've uploaded all the concert photos. Also did the same for the prior Austin concerts I attended.
Meet my friends Beth & Bryan, from Corpus Christi, in Austin last night to go see Southern Culture on the Skids at The Continental Club. We'd originally planned to see them last weekend at TCC in Houston(were we saw them last year) and also check out CSI: The Experience, but weren't able to due to my friend's cat becaming deathly ill(the cat's doing much better now).
I'm not sure what genre I'd put the SCOTS in, wiki has this to say - Stylistically, they gravitate towards the rockabill
Googling "Medieval Mayhem" I discovered that ReVival, a French enthusiasts(?) magazine, did a review of Medieval Mayhem in issue 34. English translations are available from Good Deal Games, so I ordered a copy over the weekend.
They liked the variety of options. They liked the dragon, but over time they got a little annoyed with it. A possible issue here is they're playing the PAL version and dragon is slower as I didn't compensate the speed of the dragon like I did the fireballs. They a
Gingerbread Man, by Fred Quimby
5/5
In the Gingerbread Man you take on the title role of the classic children's tale and must make your way through 20 levels to earn your freedom.
The game consists of 5 distinct levels, with well varied goals for each. In level 1 you find yourself in the oven and must pick up pieces of other baked goods and use them to extinguish the fire that's relentlessly chasing you. In level 2 you must collect balloons scattered around the dining room in order to
