CannibalCat
All the sprites done in this thread are amazing... as a programmer, I am totally re-inspired to tackle a 2600 game in the near future.
PAC-MAN-RED
Yes... Contra, the legendary run & gun first appeared in the old school Arcades in 1987, made it's way to the NES in 1988, and is a must have for any true NES game collector. jbs30000
For a long time I've wanted to do a 2600 version of Renegade. So I took snapshots of the main character walking and made three sprites. I ran into a couple of problems, so it looks like making an arcade like sprite may not be possible. If somebody like PAC-MAN-RED can improve on these, then awesome. If not, no biggie. These are sprites made up of players 0 and 1. They are cropped on the side because to make it more like the arcade game I'd need three sprites side by side and that would create flicker. But honestly, without a third sprite, I don't know how you could get the character to punch and kick. Oh, and this looks better on the double-high sprite kernels. On the single height DPC+ it looks too short and fat. TestField.bas.bin I did make an 8x38, but it didn't turn out so well, and to punch you'd either have to add another sprite or use a missile for his arm or leg. Oh, almost forgot the spritesRenegade.zip Edited December 12, 2011 by jbs30000

PAC-MAN-RED
Renegade has an interesting history to it. I'll give you the skinny on it... Having gone through a westernized conversion of the Japanese arcade game Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun, Renegade is deemed, "an immediate technological predecessor to Double Dragon", and, "is considered to be one of the most influential titles of the video game industry." Hmm... I, personally, am not too sure about that last quote there. Good game yes, but... most influential? Oh well, it's not up to me to make that decision. That's up to the people to decide, and viewers... Like you... so pledge now and... Oops, wrong channel. Anyway, all of the sprites are 8 x 30 pixels respectively. The extended legs and arms that are part of the Punching, Back-kick, and Jump-kick could either be programmed as the Missile, or perhaps another Player sprite(IF YOU DARE! MWAHAHHAHAHahahhahaha *cough* *cough*). Renegade 2600.zip Illya
Hakogame 箱亀
Those look awesome! Though, after staring at them a while, I felt the back-kick could use a little work, so I edited it. Yours on the left, mine on the right. I moved the head over to give him more 'tilt', made the shoulder stand out a little more, and straightened the leg. BladeJunker
Those look awesome! Though, after staring at them a while, I felt the back-kick could use a little work, so I edited it. Yours on the left, mine on the right. I moved the head over to give him more 'tilt', made the shoulder stand out a little more, and straightened the leg. I was looking over your change and thinking it could be pushed further by tilting the backward leg up using 2 Missile bits and extend the arm out with 1 Missile bit since the Missile bits would be on different scan lines. Man I'd love to play Renegade on the 2600, well any brawler really since Double Dragon wasn't so hot. ^_^
PAC-MAN-RED
Last time on Free sprites for the taking... I decided to leave Bill at a single-wide pixel sprite as well as see what he would look like as a double-wide sprite(and in two cases a quadruple wide sprite). Also, some of the double-wide sprites vary slightly when compared to their single-wide counterparts because things just looked too different when going to double-wide sprites. Anyway, here they are: Illya

PAC-MAN-RED
@ Propane13 - Thank you. I think this next installment of Contra related sprites will be all the Contra stuff I can do right now as I've become busy with other projects. So here we go: Enjoy, Illya
neotokeo2001
How about sprites for an Adams Family game? I will have a chance to get several actors from the original Adams Family series to sign some items in May. I would love to do the same thing with Adams Family as I was able to do with Army of Darkness. Nateo
Yes, I think your #1 point is really most critical... the brain is quite willing to fill in the rest of the details when you make the right color hints. Here's the extreme example - Can you guess what show these single pixel-wide characters are from? (For more, check out Something Awful's Abstract Pixel Art article.) Futurama! Schtoffer
Hi everyone, I'm working on a Game Maker 2600 styled Ghosts n Goblins / Ghouls n Ghosts remake (kinda, sorta) & would really love some help with some sprites. I have a few things in place but have just been ripping existing sprites then doing minor edits or recolours. It'd be fantastic to get some original artwork in here that more closely resembles the arcade / Famicom versions - any help out there..? (btw, how do I simply add photos? "Image" only lets me insert a URL..?) http://advisiongames.blogspot.com.au/

To answer your last question first; In order to attach pictures / files, when posting a message you'll have to click the "More Reply Options" Button. That will bring you to a more robust post editor where you'll have the option of attaching stuff and even previewing your message before posting (A life-safer for some of us) I think there's a bit of tweaking left to do on Authur, but here's what I have so far: Still: Running: He's only 4 animation Frames in total, but he cycles through 6 frames as in the arcade. Like this: Frame1 - Frame2 - Frame3 - Frame 4 - Frame3 - Frame2 He's purple because when I fed his image into the Atari 2600 palette, it was a closer match. But I could easily change it to a gray color. Illya
PAC-MAN-RED
How about a different looking face. Does Aurthur look better with or without a nose? Illya
Schtoffer
Cor, looking good! I kinda think without the nose but it's nice to have the choice! It's funny but I've become attached to the little knight I'm using as a placeholder (which turned up in a Donky Kong hack!) - really struggling with some decent looking sprites tho. My javelin looks like a christmas tree! Looking forward to seeing what else you have
+Random Terrain
Hi everyone, I'm working on a Game Maker . . . Have you tried Construct 2? I tried it and it seems easier and more fun to use. And you can make online games and phone games with it.
