Joe Stella
I'm sure this isn't a unique idea, but I'll float it anyway. Is anyone interested in building a network of Atari BBS's? Something with inter-bbs chat, maybe even multi-player door games? Shared boards? I'm just dreaming here. An Atari file cloud, lol. Anyway... Back to reality.
Tillek
Actually, a lot of that has already been done. All that would really be needed is source code or reverse engineering so we could figure out the data formats. Something on my bucket list which now that I'm back in school and not working, might be doable. Still have to work on getting Darkforce on Fido. Tillek
Though to be honest, the question really is whether it is worth the trouble. Are there enough players for the games to make it even worth the time. The Atari BBS community just doesn't seem to be that big and it seems to be mostly the same people calling the same BBS's, and if you network them, it almost defeats the purpose of calling more than one I'd think. Joe Stella
Tillek, I agree with you whole-heartedly. In fact, I don't even think the question would be posed if there were enough momentum. It's purely a nostalgia thing. It has no real practical value. And the scary thing is this... We are diminishing in numbers... Or is that scary? I dunno. But still, wouldn't it be cool?! +DarkLord
I think it might be a fun project. At one time, there were several BBS's using Express ST that were fido linked. I don't think I have the scripts that they were using. I'd have to go back through some of the older archived stuff I have to see...

Simba7
DO IT!! We need more retro BBS'es! -=[Lord Cygnus}=- Wow.. Looks like I had to put the project on hold for a bit. Fortunately, I have a stack (~10) of USRobotics Courier 33.6k modems sitting here. Just need a multi-port serial card. I also have ~1.5TB (4x500GB R5) of disk space in an old DL100 someone was going to throw out. I'm giving up on utilizing VoIP due to major instability with analog modems. Looks like I will have to give CenturyLink a call and see what my options are. As for the BBS, I'm aiming towards Synchronet on Linux (or FreeBSD). Dr. Clu, In your list, what does Archive: Yes Kinda mean? Means I was not all that pleased with what the Internet Archive had on record (from 2008) but they CLAIM they will check in every so often. Not sure how to update an internet archive once it has been archived. (talking about the Internet way back machine) Just for the record... SFHQ hasn't been down all that time. David B can tell you. Oh really? Ok. It has not been down AS long then.
