Okay, I gotta ask you serious peeps that go on weekly runs.

Do you carry spreadsheets that list what you already have? Or do you just buy whatever is out there that is under $x.xx?

Are you reselling?

I've collected a crap ton of PC games from eBay... so much so that I need to stop and take stock of what I have so I won't be buying dups.

I have all my games listed in a database over at Rfgen. I also have hard copies of everything I have on paper. It's rare that I buy a dupe, but it does happen. If a game is at a good price I'll buy it even though I already have it. I'll chuck it in my game fodder for trades.

I don't have enough games to get mixed up like that. I make a run to K-Mart every so often because they do have stuff on serious clearance a lot, most of it is unpublished.....

Goodwill is a good place to go, as is the Salvation Army, and sometimes you get lucky......

I think Ghost Soldier though is in a class by himself.....

Went garage sale trolling today and had 2 finds. One decent and one that has me badmouthing the seller.

The first find was a boxed 5200 system, with pink film still on, 2 controllers, 2600 adapter, crapload of 2600 games (no ET or Pac Man oddly). Notable game is Flash Gordon with mint label. $25 but the seller said it had been sold. @%@$!& 2 nice looking 5200 controllers are worth $25 alone!

Later on I found a 5 disc Pioneer CLD-M301 with 9 movies for $10. The title includes ET, Wizard of Oz, Wizard (Nintendo movie), and a few less common titles. Quick check of eBay shows the player by itself is around $40 so not a bad hit.

4 hours later on my way back, I went past the house that had the bpxed 5200, the console was still out so I called my friend who was also garage sale hunting. She checked the place out and she told me the price was $20 and had been "sold". Why does that smell like a feeble shill attempt? Like trying to get someone else to pay more to "bribe" the seller?

Anyway that laserdisc player and Wizard disk made up for a nice day for me.

I thrift when I get a chance.. I have my favorites.. and I personally pick up any thing my budget will allow me to..

unfortunately, real life keeps me pretty busy, and my work schedule messes with my ability to get out in the trenches..

I keep this thread seeding in my inbox because I like to see what people are picking up, and if theres something I see that someone has found.. I might drop them a line about taking it off thier hands..

however.. this is rare..

But dig it..

I'm always on the look out for Gnomes of any shape or persuasion.. so if these little varmints cross yer paths, and the price is not a detriment.. pick them up, and let me know.. pics preferably.. and we could work out a deal

I haven't been thrifting in a while, but I have been on the hunt at some used game shops.

My latest pickups were a "dead PSP battery, a copy of MKII for the Game Gear, and a copy of Perfect Dark for the Color Game Boy. My Perfect Dark that I had was not in perfect shape, so now I have one that is.

More importantly, having two copies of PD, I can now check the IR connection on any Color Game Boy. I'm sure that'll come in handy some day.

Almost forgot...I got RealSports Tennis for the 5200. It's not worth the extra gas my truck used to haul it home, but I'll keep it.

And the best find was at a pawn shop...Bootleg Sampler, 1995 Sega Rally, Virtua Cop 1, and Virtua Fighter 2 for the Saturn. They were all $1 each. I left Sega Rally, and picked up the others for another member here.

My parents had a garage sale today and my sister brought over her stuff to sell. She gave me the only game she had in the bunch, Dr. Mario for NES.

She also let me have 3 records and 34 laserdiscs (mostly music concerts). She also has her laserdisc player and some other game (maybe) she will let me have.

$20 got me 8 2600 games:

Tapper

Tax Avoiders

Sentinel

Porky's

Sorcerer

Fire Fly

Titlematch Pro Wrestling

Airlock

Then I got 3 for $10:

Mean 18 Golf (7800)

Here's what I got this morning, $10 for the 4 TGX-16 games, the PC games were a buck each. The game pictured in the lower left corner is Fantasy Zone

IMG_3445.jpg

:drools: I'd love to come across some wild TG-16 Game's.

I hit a couple yardsales this weekend, but didn't find too much.

Robocop NES .50

SMB 3 NES .50

Blood II, The Chosen CIB PC 1.00

Yoshi's Story N64 Strategy Guide Free

N64 Ultimate Strategy Guide Free

Donkey Kong 64 Strategy Guide Free

Star Fox 64 Strategy Guide Free

Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time Strategy Guide Free

All the strategy guide's came from a yard sale my wife went too. She bought a children's outfit and the lady threw the guide's in for free.

Man, that Godzilla at the top of the page brings back a lot of memories. It's one of the "biggest" I ever won at the hangout arcade Haunted Trails in the Chicago suburbs. Man, I played a LOT of Space Harrier there... ;)

Let me also echo how desperately I want to find TG-16 games in the wild. In 15 years of thrifting I think that I've found as many TG consoles as games, and that's two each. ;) I guess that I'll just have to content myself with cheap NES PSX games at a buck each...

NES

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

TMNT II Arcade

BreakThru

PSX

Reel Fishing (I may actually have the PS fishing controller somewhere...)

Monopoly

Resident Evil 3

The Next Tetris

Crosley portable turntable (first plat I played was Pac Man Fever of course...) $10

Lego Tie Fighter - minifig scale - .30

Speaker stands - $4

In an awesome score, I found a Denon AVR-2802 amp. It's my first stereo amp with Surround built in, turntablew amp (yay!), digital inputs, even a component video switcher (too hook up a couple of component sources to your TV), so it's clearly meant to be the center of an AV system (if I ever get a gaming room, this is going to run the show!). Their site says that this is second from the top of the line from a few years ago when this thing cost $700. I paid $20. Man, who are these people who ditch expensive gear so soon?

It's been amp week around here, I got a Yamaha EMX 66M amp. It's not really a home stereo thing, more of a PA system for a band or club. It looks like it was never used and has 600 watts of wallpaper peeling beef, and it came in at $35. The thing is worth $300 easily. It would be so cool to use this outdoors with my video projector for playing garage-sized Warlords. Now I have to decide whether I'm getting my band back together or flipping the thing on Ebay. ;)

I print out lists from my web page with X marks for whether I have cart/instructions/box for a given game, and the rarity.

If it's a game I don't have, I'll usually pay the rarity level in dollars for R1-R5 loose, more with box or instructions, otherwise I'll decide whether it's worth buying an extra for R5 and up.

Just had to share this little find today... I went to a yard sale that was held at a church and this girl had a box with an Vader 2600 in it and it said "$25 for box." The games were underneath and included a boxed Bachelor Party. The box is beat up, but the holder and game are minty. So anyway, I bought a porn game at a church sale.

The rest of it was nothing great, but she refused to split the lot up so I had to buy the whole thing. I now have three 2600 consoles cluttering the apartment! Look for for my marketplace post soon. PM me for nice Vader!
