It wasn't the smartphone I had the issue with it's the fact that only part of my entire post was put up for (somewhat) naive viewers of it to disseminate without really being able to read the entire quote from my post. The screen capture you posted was only a part of it not the entire thing.

I know, I said in my post it was a clip from your FB page. Never said it was the whole quote. To be honest, the entire quote (plus your follow up comments) just make it worse. I don’t think you are coming across to people the way you think you are.

It's always a good idea to openly refer to the place in which you live as an "isolated hick rural county".  It's sure to help with fitting in better, because entire populations of people (especially when they're your neighbours) love knowing exactly how much contempt they're viewed with.  This is doubly true when they're the potential support network around you.

I agree with this, mostly  Even if you don’t want a “script” to keep it feeling more spontaneous and conversational, you should have your talking points outlined to keep a consistent flow for the entire duration.  At one point in Barnstorming, you actually said “its great and everything else like that and uh…”  Odd, fluttering throwaway lines weaken it.

 

 

For me, I offer 2 points of advice if you actually want to build something with these –

 

1)     Let your voice do ALL the work.  You have a nice, unique voice that I personally feel lends something great to videos like these.   Keep the camera on the equipment, still shots, and game footage.  Be a Voiceover star, not a physical presence.  I think you have a VERY marketable voice and you should work with your strengths, not your weakness.

2)    Set a regular release schedule and stick to it.  Consistency is a key.  Don’t release anything early just because “they’re done.”  And don’t be late.    I’ve seen you post so many updates and announcements and such about these videos, but still have no clue when to expect them.  And when you launched, it seems like you posted both on the same day.  When’s the next?    You could have set a release date of once per week, on Tuesday evening, launched one and had one in the can, buying you an extra couple of weeks while you work on the next couple while giving off vibes of a bit of professionalism
 

This, +1000  this.    Also, @BIGHMW I clicked on your website...it has nothing on it.  To be clear, I am a fan of your music.  SMF is a excellent album and I play it all the time. I like it very much.  But please, take some of the advise people have offered you over the past few months/years.  We all want you to succeed.  You can do it!!!!     Oh, and leave Cindy alone man..she isn't going to help you.  You have to do it yourself.

The guy hasn't got a pot to piss in as it is.  No assets.  No savings.  I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that if he has a 401k with the Safeway, that's long since been drained.  While I'm out here on the limb, I'll further guess that his credit is shot.  Over half his income is in SSI payments, which aren't subject to garnishment, and he's already paying more on the payday loans than he would have to if he just said "adios" and let them sue him.

 

Dude's pretty much judgement proof.  He's going to be working part-time at the grocery store and living in a subsidized apartment for basically the rest of his life.

 

Really, what's there for him to fuck up?  Unless it turned out he's faking his disability, and clearly he isn't, he'd basically have to turn to crime to get much worse off than he is.

Maybe this shouldn't get so personal. Advice on videos? Sure. They've actually gotten significantly better. Financial advice? Sure, but it's clearly a struggle for him. He's very open, including discussing his disabilities. If you believe him and you don't think he'll ever change, there's no valid reason to berate him. I'd like to think that this is a place where you can escape from reality for a few minutes each day, especially when nothing else is going well.

 

Ray, I'm enjoying the videos and I know you're working on being better in multiple areas. Keep it up.

His reputation and a willingness for others to assist.

 

Over the course of several years, people here and elsewhere have helped him - monetarily and otherwise - with the understanding that he gets his financial act together.  He promises that this will be the last time for reals, but every single time, on time and without fail, he goes right back to doing the very things that landed him in the shit to begin with.

 

Typically, this means a cycle of getting into a financial hole, selling <insert system(s) here>, letting everyone know he's had to do this again, then getting bailed out on the understanding that he needs to not be buying toys he can't afford.  Naturally, he immediately goes out and once again buys toys he can't afford, now at a usually-higher price because the market has inflated their prices by the time he can get to them.  The cycle then repeats.

 

My last straw moment came when I saw his Facebook post.  This is exactly the sort of situation that several here (myself included) have volunteered to help him with in the past, and his overriding concern of being able to buy game consoles in January as opposed to keeping himself in a financially-stable position just burned me.  His entitlement, contempt towards the people in the area he lives in, continued stalking behaviour, and unwillingness to accept actual assistance - yet again - was the proverbial it.

 

Nothing is ever Ray's fault.  EVER.  Everyone owes him something, and if he doesn't get it (or loses something he already has), it's down to one of a million excuses that strangely enough never have anything to do with him taking responsibility for his own actions.

I have no doubt in my mind that Ray's disability is genuine.  However, there is also no doubt in my mind that he uses it for his own gain.

I know you guys are slinging mud at me, and I have read all of your posts. I DO, want to "make it" in this business, but feel pressured by the overwhelming success that others (not just Cindy Margolis) have had while continually being thrown under the bus by the mainstream media.

 

Now while I use the terms "hick" to describe the mostly rural area I live near (the area outside Port Townsend city limits) that is to fit in with what mainstream America (and also Hollywood) would refer to us as in general instead of going here and seeing that there is legitimate talent here that truly does exist here,  they would rather ridicule people that live in areas like ours with shows that make a mockery of the folks who live here like The Beverly Hilbillies, Green Acres, and The Andy Griffith Show, in which we as a general area are depicted as buck-toothed, unintelligent,  backwoods idiots like Jeffro Bodine with his 6th grade education,  or like the Clampetts, or Opie, Goober, and Gomer, and that the deputy here is Barney Fife, when in actuality most of us are not.

 

These entertaiment industry people even hint that if you don't live in "the big city" or a major metropolitan area or a suburb of one, then you and your talent do not exist, here in Port Townsend there are many greats who went on to bigger success than I did, because they had to move to "the big city", and could afford to, while folks like myself who could not afford to were often left behind, left to die.

 

To the mainstream it doesn't matter how many series you put out on your X amount of YouTube channels, nor the amount of talent you have, the only thing they give a shit about is the zip code you live in, everything else is second to them, and perhaps maybe you guys are right about Cindy Margolis,  maybe both she and Neil Cirucci don't give a shit about me after all, not just because I don't have a million dollars, but also because of where and how I live, that is why I have had to live this lie that I have side-saddled with because of all of the pressure of living up to expectations that in reality I myself could never reach.

 

I lost my Love Of My Life from 1989-2018, Alice Yantz, partly because of Cindy Margolis and the pressure her influence and her success put on me to succeed because I was lead into trying to keep up with it, and while yes I AM fortunate today to still have this apartment here at Bishop Park, and have the good graces of the great Len Enders for giving me that open door in this business back in 1994 all based on a few songs I had written up BITD,  I did end up touching a lot of people's lives with my work in my 27 years in this business, but, it all seems like it still has not been enough for even KING 5 (Seattle) to do a feature on my career for their long-running (over 40 years and still going strong) TV show Evening Magazine, and that deeply disappoints me, because my story does deserve to be told, it's too good to be constantly ignored.

Yeah maybe you guys are right it's just that never getting that contract or even an offer from iHeartRadio,  Clear Channel, or 102.7 KIIS-FM still deeply disturbs me to this day, as everyone knows that being played on KIIS-FM is considered to many as the Holy Grail as far as their musical career is concerned,  believe me being thrown under the bus in favor of Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, One Direction, and now BTS, is not very comforting to me.
