PC

Baldur's Gate 3 523

X360

CoD MW4 54

Castlevania SOTN 67

Starting up another series of modern games to play over the holidays.  My family is pulling me into BG3 multiplayer, but I'm not really sure that is how I want to experience the game.  Oh well, trying some new things I guess.

Week 50

1. Baldur's Gate 3 (PC) - 523 min.
2. Super Woden GP II (PC) - 356 min. (#5)

4. Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut (Gamecube) - 185 min. (#6)
5. Deltarune Chapter 2 (PC) - 85 min.
6. Jumbline 2 (iOS) - 82 min.
7. Suika Game (Browser based) - 70 min.
7. TxK (Vita) - 70 min.
9. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Xbox 360) - 67 min.
10. rydmkapsel (iOS) - 63 min.

Top systems

1. PC (3 games) - 964 min. (#4)
2. Switch (8 games) - 385 min. (#3)
3. Gamecube (2 games) - 235 min. (#2)
4. iOS (4 games) - 208 min. (#6)
5. Vita (3 games) - 125 min. (#9)
6. Xbox 360 (2 games) - 121 min. (#1)
7. Browser based (1 game) - 70 min. (#11)
8. GBA (1 game) - 25 min.

Total 2133 minutes and 24 different games (of which 10 new) on 8 different systems, with 6 participants.

None of the first four games from last week make the top list this week. Instead two PC games in form of Baldur's Gate 3 and Super Woden GP II head the tracker. No major changes to the all-time stats, except that Baldur's Gate 3 moves ahead of Littlewood (Switch) into all-time #14, and has the chance to both bypass two of the Mary Skelter games as well as for the year exceed Pikmin Bloom. Another 10-11 hours for the remaining two weeks of the year and it will happen.

What HAVE I done this year?

Lessee, I started playing my Animal Crossing games again recently, but as for REAL recent stuff I played Tears of the Kingdom in Spring, and Pikmin 4 later on. I can't afford brand new games often lol. All the more reason to chip through that backlog.

Edit: Ah forgot about Sonic Superstars. Superb game, though I wouldn't say $60 superb. Glad I got it on sale for $42.

Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition 55

Baldur's Gate 3 114

PS4

Spider-Man 210

X360

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 140

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 399

Castlevania Symphony of the Night 740

A big week and next week may be even bigger.  Last week I posted time for CoD MW4.  I usually clean up my abbreviations when posting the times, but that one got through.  The game is actually called Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.  I finished the single player campaign this week which was short and thrilling.  I am planning to work my way through Battlefield BC2's single player campaign this week and may move on to CoD Black Ops.

I'm also still working my way through the Xbox 360 version of SOTN.  I've never played this game before and it is delivering more than expected.  Excellent so far.

Okay, I know I said I wasn't coming back here for a while, and then my brother bought me Wildermyth as an early Christmas gift. I haven't spent much time with it yet but it seems like it could be really interesting.

A good week for gaming around here this week! Everything I played was played on my Retroid Pocket 3+, which mostly consisted of continuing to make my way through Ocarina of Time for the N64. I did get in a couple games of Monopoly for the Game Boy Color too, played a bit of what is probably the best home console port of Xevious on the PC Engine, and completed half a dozen more levels Alien Hominid for the GameCube. I was planning on finishing Alien Hominid this week but ended up getting distracted by a very long Ken Burns documentary

Lastly, on Christmas morning I parked myself in front of the TV and used the HDMI out on my RP3+ to play Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams for the Sega Saturn on the big screen to commemorate the holiday! I had never played a NiGHTS game before but, once I learned the rather strange game mechanics, I really enjoyed it and think I'd like to play the full NiGHTS into Dreams game once I finish up Alien Hominid!

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good NiGHTS 🎄

Ineligible

Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams... (Sega Saturn) - 74 minutes

Monopoly (Game Boy Color) - 117 minutes

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64) - 438 minutes

Xevious: Fardraut Saga (PC Engine) - 36 minutes

GameCube

Alien Hominid - 43 minutes

I have had a couple busier weeks just uploading my old game recording videos from 2009 to YouTube and copying VHS tapes to a PC rather than gaming and streaming. It is gaining me some more YouTube followers at least who surprisingly like the low quality VHS look of those videos. One thing that is nice is that I even have my first playthrough of New Super Mario Bros. Wii in that format.

Top systems

1. Xbox 360 (3 games) - 1279 min. (#6)
2. Switch (11 games) - 520 min. (#2)
3. iOS (5 games) - 386 min. (#4)

8. Gamecube (1 game) - 43 min. (#3)

Total 2857 minutes and 29 different games (of which 9 new) on 8 different systems, with 4 participants.

Castlevania SOTN moves from #9 to #1, with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 5.5 hours behind. Actually the totals this week are below those in the classic tracker, and in a virtual combined systems list there would have been 5 classic and 5 modern systems among the top 10, or 9+6 for a top 15.

Any late posts will be added to next week as usual, which will conclude the modern tracker of 2023.

PC

Baldur's Gate 3 430

PS4

Spider-Man 466

X360

Battlefield Bad Company 2 342

Call of Duty: Black Ops 95

Castlevania SOTN 702

  • Baldur's Gate 3 is still a multiplayer only experience for me, and it kinda sucks.  I need to play single player to enjoy it, so I'll probably go after that throughout 2024.
  • Spider-Man seems so derivative of Batman and Assassin's Creed, but that kinda makes it work.  I think I'm about 40% through and pushing forward quickly.
  • I continued my run through single player campaigns on insanely popular (mostly for multiplayer) fps games.  I plan to finish Black Ops and compare all 3
  • SOTN has become an incredible chore.  I can't believe it's not over yet.  I'm reserving my judgment, but it is definitely overstaying its welcome.
