+wongojack
No classic time for me this week, but I did create a "tiered list" of all the games that I played for more than 200 mins in 2022. You can check that out here:
+jgkspsx
A slightly less random week. Arcade: Played through most of the Konami Arcade Anniversary Collection to see how much I wanted a physical copy. Enough, it turns out. Gradius - 15 minutes Vulcan Venture (intl version of Gradius II) - 20 minutes Scramble - 30 minutes Thunder Cross - 30 minutes The Switch Lite really kills my hands, though. Atari 2600: Chase It - 5 minutes Dark Cavern - 15 minutes Miss It - 10 minutes Flash Gordon - 10 minutes to get my feet wet for HSC. Seaquest - 95 minutes for HSC to no very good effect, as my high score is the same as last week. Video Pinball - 25 minutes so much more fun than it has any right to be Genesis/Mega Drive: Gaiares - 135 minutes for Evercade Discord HSC Slap Fight - 105 minutes for the @Steven Pendleton HSC
+jgkspsx
Eek, forgot two: NES: Racket Attack - 25 minutes Like many NES sports games, this divides reviewers, but I like it despite not having nostalgia for it. Supervision: Alien - 25 minutes
Steven Pendleton
6 hours ago, jgkspsx said: Slap Fight - 105 minutes for the @Steven Pendleton HSC I've always been too lazy to track Slap Fight and Slap Fight MD separately, so I have always put them together as Slap Fight MD. It's also confusing because the game's cover clearly says Slap Fight MD on it but the spine only says Slap Fight.
Skippy B. Coyote
I decided that I did want to finish out the Atari 2600 High Score Club season with enough points to play in the end of season minor league tournament, so this week I spent a little time playing one of the last two games for this season of the HSC Atari 2600 Seaquest - 66 minutes
carlsson
Here's the summary for Week 02, running from January 9 - 15. We logged 3803 minutes of eligible play, playing 86 games on a total of 21 systems. Top 10: 1. Suikoden II (PlayStation) - 843 min. (#1) 2. Seaquest (Atari 2600) - 432 min. 3. Solar Fox (Atari 2600) - 335 min. (#2) 4. Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus (PlayStation) - 158 min. 5. Out Zone (Arcade) - 146 min. (#8) 6. Gaiares (Genesis) - 135 min. 7. Qbillion (Game Boy) - 127 min. 8. Buzz Worm (CoCo 1 & 2) - 112 min. 9. Slap Fight (Genesis) - 110 min. 10. Slay the Nereis (CoCo 1 & 2) - 98 min. Pre-NES top 10: 1. Seaquest (Atari 2600) - 432 min. (PN#7) 2. Solar Fox (Atari 2600) - 335 min. (PN#1) 3. Buzz Worm (CoCo 1 & 2) - 112 min. 4. Slay the Nereis (CoCo 1 & 2) - 98 min. 5. Mine, The (TI-99/4A) - 85 min. (PN#2) 6. Kaboom! (Atari 2600) - 80 min. (PN#3) 7. Oregon Trail, The (Apple II) - 73 min. 8. Survivor [Synapse Software] (Atari 8-bit) - 60 min. 9. Zero-Zap (TI-99/4A) - 50 min. 10. Flash Gordon (Atari 2600) - 46 min. Top 10 systems: 1. Atari 2600 - 1013 min. (#2) (15 games) 2. PlayStation - 1001 min. (#1) (2 games) 3. Arcade - 344 min. (#4) (15 games) 4. Genesis - 265 min. (3 games) 5. CoCo 1 & 2 - 218 min. (3 games) 6. TI-99/4A - 160 min. (#6) (3 games) 7. Game Boy - 159 min. (#5) (11 games) 8. NES/Famicom - 106 min. (#3) (12 games) 9. Atari 8-bit - 94 min. (#8) (2 games) 10. Commodore 64 - 74 min. (4 games) Suikoden II again is far ahead of the others, and moves into 7th place on the all-time stats! It is now "only" 1334 minutes away from #4 The Lawnmower Man. On the pre-NES side, Seaquest beats Solar Fox by almost 100 minutes, and the lone Apple II game almost brings the system into the top 10. The top two systems shift positions, and just for fun I also counted how many games each of the top 10 systems represent. The Nintendo systems this provided lots of diversity but not many minutes, while the lone Sony system qualified for this tracker was the exact opposite. Two new members to the 1000 Minute Club: #517 Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus (PlayStation) - 1027 min #518 Video Pinball (Atari 2600) - 1005 min. Edit: And yes, the 2600 is now past 666,666 - currently at 667,463 minutes if I'm not mistaken. +jgkspsx
4 minutes ago, carlsson said: 9. Slap Fight (Genesis) - 110 min. Just to make sure, is this the same game as Steven has been tracking? Whatever it is called in the tracker, there is one cart that is alternately called Slap Fight or Slap Fight MD depending on the source, and we should probably just track time for the cartridge rather than the two game variations it includes.
carlsson
Up till now, I've got 3 different entries: Slap Fight - 133 min. Slap Fight MD - 2747 min. Slap Fight MD (prototype) - 6 min. I can definitely merge the first two if they're comparable enough. I'll let you who have played the game decide. It doesn't change terribly much in the grand scheme of things. 2
+jgkspsx
I think definitely merge mine into Slap Fight MD. The prototype is probably different enough to count.
carlsson
Ok, I'll do that later. It is like going from RGB to composite video: easy to merge the signals into one, but more work if you want it undone later. But as Steven above wrote that he has played both games and listed them as one title, I suppose the mixing already has gone far enough to just merge them. It always is a difficult task to tell which games are different enough to keep apart, and which are nearly identical so they as well can be grouped.
Steven Pendleton
I think the only difference in the prototype is the title screen or the attract mode or something else like that. I'd have to play it again to be sure.

carlsson
Atari 8-bit: Donkey Kong Jr - 26 min. Not a favorite of mine, but I realize it is a game where you have to learn each screen one by one, and if you haven't played it in 3-4 years time, you have to relearn each screen one by one before you get anywhere score wise. I'm no big fan of the original Donkey Kong neither, but at least it is a little bit more forgiving. To me, this is almost as bad sequel as Super Mario Bros: Lost Levels, compared to the original SMB. Ergo, typical Nintendo games.
Kurt_Woloch
Here are my times for this past week (January 16th through 22nd, 2023) on classic systems... MSX: Commando - 6 min. TI-99/4A: The mine - 85 min. This week I replayed the MSX version of Commando, but only for a single game. "The mine" on the TI-99/4A was a single game as well in which I managed to roll the score counter and clear 23 of the 25 rooms. I've cleared one more room before, but I never managed to clear the remaining one. So I guess there's not a big chance of getting much better in that game... in the remaining room, the jumping height over the fireballs, and thus the outcome of the jump, is unpredictable.
+jgkspsx
My week was strongly dominated by high score challenges. Arcade: Burgertime - 10 minutes The Tiny Arcade version features much more leadable food and is therefore clearly superior. Dark Seal/Gate of Doom - 205 minutes. I can get to the second boss on one credit now - pretty happy with that. Lunar Lander - 45 minutes I prefer the Vectrex homebrew port but this is pretty good. I still don’t understand why it sometimes doesn’t agree that I landed when I am clearly down on the ground. Atari 2600: Flash Gordon - 200 minutes Really loving this port of Spider City from the Atari 8bits now that I understand how to play it. Poor astronaut shmucks are on their own. Solar Plexus - 20 minutes Very fun game even if I am not making much progress in it. Star Castle Homebrew - 10 not to be confused with Star Castle Arcade, this earlier game is a lot harder. A lot a lot. Channel F: Videocart 18: Hangman - 25 minutes This game is shockingly violent when you die. NES: Mappy - 45 minutes I can make this game last pretty long now but I am still not able to crack 100k without a lot of tries. Kubo 1 - 4 minutes I completed the game. Kubo 2 - 7 minutes I completed the game. NNNNNN - 15 minutes At roughly 5 seconds average per game, that is a LOT of games. I was trying really hard to crack 10 seconds. Spacey McRacey - 12 minutes Playing single player isn’t great but it’s fun enough. 4 player seems amazing. Master System: Gotris - 35 minutes Very fun but not well optimized fusion of Go and a block dropping puzzle. The slowdown gets a bit annoying but being impatient is not exactly a good mindset for Go, is it. Mega Drive/Genesis: Slap Fight MD - 65 minutes of which 20 minutes was MD mode and 45 was original mode. Half on Anbernic which kills my hands and half on Nomad where I can’t see bullets. I really should play on real hardware. Tabletop/handheld: Tandy Rocket Pinball - 7 minutes Supervision: Alien - 35 minutes Had a big breakthrough in my habits and got much further than I ever have before.
