New Puzzle Game Block'em Sock'em for the Atari Jaguar. Free Download!

Recommended Posts

Today, with the help of many from the Jaguar community, we offer you a free game to download and play on your Game Drive or Skunkboard(Also works on BigPEmu with Force GD enabled).   This has been the hard work from many people who made this happen.  I would like to first thank Adam Welch(Second-Dimension) for programming Block'em Sock'em, a joint creation of mine and his for the Sega Genesis.   This is a game that will be on other platforms in the future with the SNES game being finished and a possible 7800 port as well.   I then approached CyranoJ to see if this was possible for the Atari Jaguar.   CyranoJ took this project on for free to then offer to the community.  R. Strauss did the music.   J. Leal did the graphics.   On top of being a free download for GD or Skunkboards, I am also happy to announce that this will be offered on cart in very limited supply(next PRGE) for a very reasonable price.   Albert made this possible and I am grateful.   Later on, it will be offered in the Atariage store and I am delighted to hear that.  I also want to thank the play testers for making this a better game(Machine, neo_rg, Spordic, Saturn, Sauron, and agradeneu)

Your goal is to control me through 25 different levels to destroy boxes of the same color.  Your goal is to get the block counter below the goal number with a limited number of tosses.   If you toss a colored block and it hits another color, then your block will change to that color.  There are three difficulty settings.   This is to be a fun game enjoyed by many and it was great to offer this to the community to play.

Below is a video of me playing this on my channel to help describe visually how to play it.

Enjoy the game!

Hey @swlovinist Game looks great, I just watched the video.  Haven't tried it yet as I haven't hooked up the jag yet since we just moved into our house.  One thing I did notice is that some of the colors might be hard to distinguish for someone who is colorblind (like me). For future releases it would be nice to consider either having the blocks look slightly different, or have an option to set colors for blocks.  But what do you want for free!  Thanks for making this happen!

Congratulations on the release. Kudos for the free .ROM download. Looking forward to picking up a cart version from PRGE later this year.

Thank you for helping make this game even better.

Thank you friend for that important info.   I will try my best for all updates or different versions to consider that and try to incorporate it into my games.   One idea would be to number the blocks.

Differents shapes or symbols on the blocks also works.

This is just a POC, so not somtehing that should arrive in the future :

(And I dont like the blue/green that seems too close for symbol also)

This is awesome! I will give this rom a play this evening. One request though is for the MRQ file to go with it, as and when someone has the time to create it? I'm not able to myself, sorry, hence seeing if anyone else can put something together. Many thanks in advance. I will enjoy the game in the meantime - thanks to The Immortal John Hancock!! Will grab some popcorn 🍿

Just played through this on my Atari Jaguar this morning! Great fun the game looks amazing on a crt. I'll definitely be interested in picking this up as a physical release for the Atari Jaguar collection in the future. I'm hoping if this game gets a 7800 release it might be possible to bring it to the Atari VCS 800? I think it would be an ideal fit for the VCS 🙂

It seems not to run on BPE. By accident or by intention? (Or am I just too stupid?)

I really, really love the fact two of my favorite developers worked on the same game  AND enable new homebrew developers:

CyranoJ with the Jaguar port and JagStudio

Adam Welch with the Genesis version and SecondBASIC

Add yourself to the people that I enjoy working with friend!

I downloaded and then messed with this on the Game Drive just now, got to Level 13 on easy mode. At first I was a bit lost on what to do but I got the hang of it. Sweet game, anything for the Jaguar is great to see these days. I agree with one of the posters above about the mrq file for the game if someone makes one, I've never figured out the MRQ creation thing myself.
