I think it is time for me to pre-order a 7800+. Yep, decision made! If the 2600+ can get a firmware update to deliver this then fine, but having controllers plug into the from of the unit is pretty groovy. I have nostalgia for the 2600+ design as that’s the machine I had back in the day, but playing games is the main thing! I’ve pre-ordered the 7800+, CX78+ wireless controller and Space Duel, which appears to be the only game available for pre-order. There’s an entry for 7800 Berzerk, but it says “unavailable” - is this going to be substantially different from the 2600 enhanced Berzerk? Also it looks like Fatal Run sold out? Glad I pre-ordered that when I did! Edited September 4 by Sean_1970

Atari_Warlord
@Ben from Plaion Thanks for the factory testing videos. If the Driving/Paddles/Keyboard/Trackball controllers will work with the new revisions I would suggest making wireless ones for sale in 2025. If the 2600+ needs a rev 3, I'd love to see the original 6 switch model. You could also go the route of the Junior or Vader models. Another thought on the left handed cx=40+ wireless joystick would be to put something on the dongle rather the the stick. If the various controllers share the same dongle, that may not work.

A six switch revision is a great idea as it would be clear from just looking at it that you have got the revised hardware that is in the 7800+. They would be making a new I/O board anyway, so adding two switches would just be part of that revision. I assume that most of the current shell could be used too, yeah the plate that the switches are mounted on would need to be replaced, but the top of the shell with the holes for the rear difficulty switches could perhaps be adjusted, not a total change. No headache about which hardware do I own/am I buying, it would be crsytal clear. Nice solution, and we all like a six switch. EDIT: Of course a cheap solution would be a Vader model, it would also stand out and requires the smallest of changes, but I prefer the woody look myself. Hmmm, 2025 Vader 2600+ with wireless joystick, calling it now! Edited September 4 by JetmanUK

Although a Junior model kinda matches the 7800+ aesthetically, and maybe they could just manufacture one set of boards and slap them in both the 7800+ and 2600 JNR+, so perhaps they will go that way with it. Don't expect to be able to go back there and be able to look for remaining cartridges. That said, they did set aside several hundred cartridges which were sold on eBay as a fundraiser. I imagine at least some of the folks who won those auctions actually tried them out in a console. I've no idea how many were found to still work, but given the robust nature of the cartridges, I'm sure it's a non-zero number. Thats just how the story ends for now... Searching for “7800 games” in the app didn’t turn those up for some reason! I looked at the screen for the 7800 version of Berzerk - does it have a two-player co-op mode?!? shane857
crazy hype at the moment with the release of the 7800+ and new games. I for one am waiting until actual release. I've never pre-ordered anything in my life, don't intend to start doing now or ever.
