Hey thanks for the NTSC conversion !
Quick question though, is this a screenshot using Altirra with the display maxed out ?

On my 1200XL it looks like this ? I also tried it with Altirra set to duplicate Atari video

and it looks the same ?

Wow!!!   That picture looks fantastic on the 1200XL  -  the screenshot from my post is from the Rasta converter.  After the conversion I loaded it in Altirra.  Have you upgraded the 1200xl video to S-Video?

Try to adjust contrast and brightness of the TV/monitor to get blacker black.
Altirra palette kinda uses 100% black black

This is because the version you compiled uses the allegro library installed in your system, original one had it embedded in the binary (was statically linked).

Have Fun!

I had to shut down my browser during rendering of a CRT simulation to free memory... In the middle of writing this post

Realy good work on the face.  Faces always give me problems.

I was focused on face and on the reddish parts on the top :)
@drpeter helped a lot to remove artifacts (errors), and they still did appear.  I'm using new version of Rasta Converter...

Good timing on this post.  I just had an issue getting decent results from an image last night.  Removing the background made a big difference.  The final test will be just the dog.  I expect a pretty good conversion there.

I absolutely love this image - the groomer's head looks absolutely tiny next to this dog.

Attempt 1 - 77 colours.  I am not satisfied with this one, but I am posting it so a direct comparison with the better version can be done.

@Stephen perhaps run the version 1 attempt with a mask. Will generally get better results. :)

Thanks - I still struggle with creating masks which is why I rarely use that option.

Guy with Ravens

palette: altirra.act

Only 14 colors!

I did spend dozens of hours on this image. Literally dozens! A lot of pixel painting, manipulations, edits, etc...
I also used mask on face and hands and the whiteish shirt...

Just to clarify for @Sheddy's peace of mind, there were no artifacts in the sense of things that Rasta thought should display differently due to errors in emulation- there were just areas in which, due to the limitations of the semi-random choices of the Rasta optimisation algorithm and the Atari hardware, a few simple hand-tweaks of the bitmap & kernel visibly improved things.
