Please sail for 14 days to ensure that there is no "Pest ombord". I can always offer you some strawberries and Ice-Cream while coding. Here is the map. Just below 300km: 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/304625-lynx-2020-programming-competition/page/4/#findComment-4586776 Share on other sites

Perhaps we could pull off something in Finland. But probably not this summer. Now I am heading up north for a week to enjoy the lake areas. drludos
Less than month before the deadline! So, how's everyone doing? On my end, I started very late due to "real life obligations". But I did found a tiny game idea that I hope will turn into something fun in the end! I don't have anything to show (yet), but I finally made some decent progress and coded the "core engine" of the game. So now is the turn to make some actual gameplay happen, and then I'll continue working on graphics and audio. If I'm able to keep working at this rate until the end, I'll definitively be able to submit something for the compo! (but it'll be a small scope game, as usual with me). drludos
Your place is really wonderful Karri! There is no way someone could stay inside coding a game with a beautiful landscape like that to explore nearby! Oh, and will your game be about cooking then? I'm eager to see everyone's entry (and I'll bet we'll have a lot of "small game because I didn't have enough time" entries :p) Edited July 21, 2020 by drludos 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/304625-lynx-2020-programming-competition/page/4/#findComment-4590101 Share on other sites

We just got a thunderstorm so I got my laptop and started on my game. Perhaps I just start coding and plan as I go. There is a woodpecker banging on a tree between the house and my kitchen. So perhaps my entry is Woodpecker in the style of a Cuphead run. +karri
Arrgh. I just came home from the lakes. My laptop battery ran out on Tuesday evening while writing my game entry. The solar panel had a steady voltage but the adapter I bought to charge the laptop did not work. So I pretty much wasted a week. There was no electricity on the island. I really doubt that I get my game done in time... Even if I get it done it will be a bit short this time. But at least I got some inspiration of the game mechanics and the different phases of the game. I got this far on Tuesday. Plus I took a photo of a very poisoneous mushroom (for drawing it in the game): And a very delicious mushroom (perhaps in the game as well): The stupid woodpecker refused to get close enough for a good photo (I need a better phone). 3 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/304625-lynx-2020-programming-competition/page/4/#findComment-4594152 Share on other sites
drludos
Sorry about your power issues, but this first screenshot look great! I like the pixel art, and a shoot'em up is always a good choice on the Lynx! 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/304625-lynx-2020-programming-competition/page/4/#findComment-4594276 Share on other sites
Igor
Even a short game is a good thing, you can always expand it later. That's why there are 'competition' entries and final entries ? 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/304625-lynx-2020-programming-competition/page/4/#findComment-4595437 Share on other sites

+karri
No intro yet. But the game mechanics is getting better. The idea is to play with weird size differencies. Your miniature "hero" travels along the inside of a tree trunk and fights all kind of strange objects. Hopefully I have time to draw all kind of wood worms, mushrooms and aliens. 2 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/304625-lynx-2020-programming-competition/page/4/#findComment-4595464 Share on other sites

+karri
6 hours ago, 42bs said: And shooting seems to use parabolic curves, right? The shooting is straight. But in this case I was flying up/down while shooting so the trajectory looks like a curve. The shots will then ricochet from target to target. So the point of the game is to plan a bit where to aim to reach stuff behind a ridge. Shoot is A and dash is B. The dash-functionality allows you to jump small lengths as invulnerable to avoid tough spots. There is up to 50 bullets in the air simultaneously. It looks really fun on the Lynx screen. I also plan to finish the sequencer in order to create a good soundtrack for my game. Perhaps I could publish both. Introducing the woodpecker. The graphics is still just a placeholder for getting the playability right. 3 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/304625-lynx-2020-programming-competition/page/4/#findComment-4595632 Share on other sites
Fadest
Back from holidays (a nice woodhouse in front of a pyrenean lake, but not as gorgeous as Karri's place) so it's time to go back to the contest. The week end before leaving, I made some nice menus, now it's time to fill all these menus (or maybe remove them, it will be faster :D) The game is based on Cheese Chasers, a print & play card game (that already exist on other platform such as Android and Excel), but rethemed with asteroids. It is a tiny tactical game with a great replay value, not the kind of game that will push your Lynx to the limit (apart RAM limit), or get some votes in a contest (especially with some nice action games in front of it), but I like it and wanted to make a Lynx version for years, so I also have the main gameplay part for Easy and Basic options (standard rules). But there is still a lot to do (add some new specific rules into the 'Plus' version, tutorial, high score management, manage achievements and rewards, eeprom, ...). So when I see what is still undone, I guess tomorrow i will go back in holidays for at least the week-end 4 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/304625-lynx-2020-programming-competition/page/4/#findComment-4596125 Share on other sites

drludos
Woaw, very impressive entry Fadest too! I love the general look of the game, the palette is very well chosen and the graphics are beautiful. It feels very professional and reminds me of 90's computer games (ST/Amiga/MS-DOS era). It looks like we'll have a wide variety of games this year too, I'm eager to play them all! +karri
Ok. Two weeks to go. i accidentally read the rules and found out that my game and sequencer don't even remotely qualify for the competition. So I tossed these entries and started on a new one. This time in space. I also dropped out of the jam. But if I get this together I will enlist again. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/304625-lynx-2020-programming-competition/page/4/#findComment-4597236 Share on other sites
