I see you spotted that the shots are different... they shoot more often, but also in regular game the collision algorithm is pixel perfect, so it is possible that the shot flies through you or in between 0 and 1... however in the endpart the collision algorithm is using bigger hitbox instead of pixel-perfect collisions so it is no longer possible that the shot flies through you.

of course, my strategy was to stop seconds before the shot and then continue. this ensured that I dodged the bullet going straight at the player.

I see that you never played it, even if I put the 30 levels you will not finish it because the last level has 5 levels in a row to finish it and these are more difficult than the previous 29.
