Word of caution: I have been using some of the USB lamps and the weight of them tends to cause loose USB ports. YMMV.

That is absolutely true! I used way too many USB lamps in mine and it became so wild and loose it went out and had a romp with my HDMI port and created this:

Holiday Best Wishes Disclaimer

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2019, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only "AMERICA" in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:
- This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal.
- It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting.
- It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher.

This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher. Here we are! Welcome to post-everything imaginable

1980s Amiga has been running the AC and heat in 19 schools for 30 years.

https://www.geek.com/news/commodore-amiga-computer-has-been-running-the-acheat-in-19-schools-for-30-years-1625147/

The district hopes to replace the old Amiga with a modern environmental control system soon if an upcoming bond measure is passed by voters. Itll cost about $1.5 to 2 million to replace the Amiga, but it works. For the moment.

Rick

So you're saying that a high school student figured this system out in the 1980's using current technology at the time for about $5,000 in today's currency - and in 30 years you still don't have a high school student smart enough to do it for under $1.5M? Sounds more like a statement of today's educational system.

Josh Wedekind

I agree! I could whip up something on a $25 Raspberry Pi, with a few extra wireless communication components, and easily maintained Python source code. It would cost me less $100, but now that I know the budget is $1.2 million...

Anyway, I didn't learn what I know in school. I taught myself. Often times from reading books printed in the 1980's.

S Charlesworth

As with pretty much all software projects ever, it's not so much a problem of knowing how to code as working out all the communication protocols, etc. and sounds like there need to be improvements, specifically with not interfering with Maintenance's communications. And I'm going to be the original code is such spaghetti you'd have to start over.

all that said, yes, a competent independent contractor could do this for a fraction of the quoted price.

US intelligence community says quantum computing and AI pose an ’emerging threat’ to national security

https://techcrunch.com/2018/12/13/us-intelligence-quantum-computing-artificial-intelligence-national-security-threat/

It’s not often you can put nuclear weapons, terrorism and climate change on the same list as quantum computing, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, but the U.S. government believes all pose an “emerging threat” to its national security.

Several key agencies in the U.S. intelligence community were asked what they saw as long-term threats faced by the country in the next decade and beyond, and the future of “dual-use technologies” took center stage.

Agnostic technologies like encryption, autonomous and unmanned systems, AI and quantum computing rank at the top of the agencies’ “worry list” for fears that they could be used to cause harm, rather than advance society. While all can be used for good — to secure data, to survey a dangerous area or simply to save time and effort — the government says that all can have disastrous effects if used by an adversary.

Very true. Technology is now advancing at an exponential rate, and It's going to become very difficult for governmental institutions to catch up and adapt. It might already be too late... What will ensue is a series of gradually more harmful events eventually leading to catastrophic ones which will affect nearly everybody on this planet. Better hang on to your TI and short wave transceivers

Yes, the writing seems to be graffiting the walls again... As of this writing I am preparing to activate the 13th precursory level of nested counter... COUNTER-MEASURES. This might not be enough though. So I am considering boosting the +5v and inserting a multiplicative frequency synthesizer in between the CLK XTAL and the 9904. I already know the TTL chips can withstand +18v for several hours... however the sn76494 will need to be protected as its hybrid nature could cause it to burn through the PCB again.
I'm hoping 9MHz isn't overdoing it.

The third picture shows the "schöner Brunnen" ("beautiful fountain"). You may argue that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but keep in mind that this fountain is there since the end of the 14th century (build from 1385 to 1396). It was, however, restored several times, and this is a copy; the original is in the Germanic National Museum.

It was enclosed in a concrete hull during WW2.

On the Christkindlesmarkt, I usually taste all the three major flavors: normal Glühwein, Heidelbeerglühwein (blueberry), and Schlehenglühwein (sloe), and I like the sloe Glühwein most because it is the least sweet of them. If you happen to visit the market some time (give me a call), don't forget the "Drei im Weckla", means "three in a roll" (three Nuremberg mini bratwurst in a bread roll).
