Clive Cussler's Oregon Series

[#053] vacationing in early June, one particular evening my entire family sans me and my youngest daughter went to some dinner that I didn't want to go to and didn't feel like the 5-year-old would be on her best behavior. she's normally good but it's something about restaurants where she can't sit still through a whole meal and wants to walk around or sit on my lap or run her mouth (that last part she does 24/7, even talking in her sleep).   anyway, we went to the local mall and into a

Crash Fix: Nintendo 3DS XL - Black Screens with only Blue LED lit

[#052] yesterday I dusted off my 3DS to show my oldest daughter a few games that showcase the 3D effect. At some point she went back to reading her book for school (good girl!) and I made my way over to the Badge Arcade app, which is a claw machine type game where you win different sprites spanning across several first-party & third-party series. the past few years have been first party only probably due to contract expirations with the likes of Capcom among others. Sadly, I'll never finish

The Twilight Zone: Season 1, Part I (E01-E09)

[#051] "There is a seventh dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area we call the Twilight Zone." -Rod Serling   this is a long one. bookmark it and take it to the bathroom with you. i have been watching a lot of Pl

Dementia 7 ~ 50th Blog Post

[#050] ah yes my 50th blog. it only took me ten years to get here. most of ya'll can accomplish that in months, but i usually have nothing to say. today is no different.   well, that's not entirely true.   i hadn't studio-recorded anything since 2014 which was when my band of 25-years finally decide to wrap up for good. about thirteen months ago (february 2021) i dusted off my guitars and started recording a couple of cover songs along with a friend of mine who lives in

Archlion Saga - Nintendo Switch Game Review

[#049] Out of nowhere, here I am with a game review after being MIA for 13 months.   I don't like to think about how old I am or how every week there's yet another layer of BS I'm responsible for at work, or how family duties and priorities and errands consume the day. My point is, I don't have time like I used to, to start and complete a music project or start and complete a game programming project. Those days are long gone. LOL.   Speaking of time consuming, there are RPG

LineWars II. MS-DOS 1994. Soundtrack MP3s. Finally.

[#048] i found this game at wally-world back in the day, circa 1995. i had never heard of it and i was new to pc gaming. the box looked cool. the screenshots looked cool. i took home what would become a very sentimental and important video game. it came on one floppy disk and ran in MS-DOS. it was the first game i played that had online capabilities via landline for player vs player (which was amazing and has a chat feature) or local network for multiplayer (i never tried it due lack of equipmen

Ghost Chamber (2009, PC Game) Revisited

[#047] for the record, i wrote up this blog last night and something happened with my browser so i lost the whole thing. typing it all up again here..   Alright, so a blog or two ago I mentioned that a Qbasic game I had programmed wouldn't compile into a stand-alone EXE file correctly. I couldn't remember exactly what the error was so I tried to compile it once more to refresh my memory. The win condition was what was causing trouble; it was way too long, so i segmented it down to seve

in the market for a new car

[#046] spent the whole day at three different car dealerships with my dad, looking for a newish used SUV to replace my 2005 Saturn. i learned quickly from the first lot i went to that the listings on Carfax aren't up to date. the vehicle (2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus) i went to check out had been sold a week ago. wasn't their fault; the dealerships don't remove the listings, but rather submit them as Sold to the, uh, Carfax people.   prior to my current obsession with JCL+, i did a

well how the hell are ya?

[#045]   i'm on a super long vacation due to COVID-19, but i'm alive and well. i haven't worked in 3 months and the only thing i have to show for it is a Street Fighter II Arcade1Up machine that i modded which now includes 39 systems and almost 18K roms. it's been in my garage since probably February but it finally made it to my gameroom two days ago.    my poor kindergarten graduate did not get to sing silly songs or walk across a stage to celebrate her accomplishment, and m

Ehhh...

[#044] Seems like for the past few years I only spend any length of time on AtariAge in November/December (for the annual Secret Santa) and then again in June because I have vacation time to burn. So here we are. Since my last personal life update, I brought (or helped bring perhaps) a second child into our family and she's already made her first birthday. We also moved about 40 miles out of New Orleans and bought our first home, which is both exciting and frustrating considering it's HOA an

Don't Call It a Comeback...

[#043] No, seriously. I've been gone for a long time, and I will most likely keep up this trend and only "check in" a few times year. My last blog post was February 2017, and my last topic post on the board was in December 2017 (in the Secret Santa thread, and I feel bad for never letting my Secret Santa know he/she did a great job with my presents). So what's new with me is after working for one company for 16+ years I finally ditched them and went to a "rival company" and have been there f

Double Dragon IV (PC/Steam/PS4) Official Sequel

[#042] Holy shit, a brand new Double Dragon game in 2017! This came out of nowhere! I accidentally found out about this game on release day (January 31st, 2017) and gladly spent $6.99 on it through Steam. It's also on Playstation 4. Yep, Double Dragon IV. Before you scratch your head in confusion about the title, there's an explanation why this game is numerically titled with "IV" even though a "V" was released on the SNES back in the 16-bit era. while we're on the subject of numbering, it s

Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Season 1, Part I (E1-E10)

[#040] When I was a little kid, my family had a Saturday Night family time ritual: We'd get Little Caesar's pizza and watch Morgus the Magnificent, Tales from the Darkside, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Maybe not in that order, but whatever. I recently stumbled upon AHP on Netflix, or at least just Season 1 of it, consisting of a whopping 39 episodes. I'm going to post quick summaries and reviews here for anyone interested in "watching with me". These are not going to be spoiler-free. After a

John Davis (Lees of Memory, Ex-Superdrag) Covers My Music

[#039] John Davis, frontman of current band The Lees of Memory and now-defunct 90s group Superdrag (you'll remember them as one-hit-wonders with their "Sucked Out" video) has a new and unique release; it's a commissioned covers album, which is a completely free download with no strings attached. Check it: The Lees of Memory had just released their sophomore album, Unnecessary Evil, through the PlegdeMusic platform. In doing this and to help fund the production of the CD & vinyl run, Joh

More Ketchup, Perhaps

[#038] Throwing more ketchup jellybeans. ...Man, we're in the middle of August and I've barely spent any time on AtariAge in 2016. I've also kept my new year's resolution of not posting any status updates or photos on Facebook, only limiting myself to replies on others' content. I'm really trying to wean myself off that shit altogether and have more time and focus on life unfolding in front of my own eyes, particularly my soon-to-be three-year-old princess of a daughter. We've "cut the cord"

Ketchup

[#037] i haven't posted a blog in over two months, so i threw a ketchup-flavored jellybean on the floor and waited a couple of minutes. nothing happened, so i picked it up and threw it in the garbage. so fuck Apple. there's that. my Kickstarter limited edition copper iMpulse bluetooth gamepad/controller bit the dust after a few years of heavy use. when i inserted the microUSB jack into the charging port, the metal piece that accepts the jack broke off and fell inside the unit. i was able to

Sequence Broken / Full Circle / Extended

[#036] I. Sequence Broken from day one, i've labeled my blogs here on AtariAge with "serial numbers" in a "[#XXX]" format, starting off each blog post with said label. however, [#035] The Legend of Zelda, My Dog was mostly complete but never published. I wrote it up at the end of August shortly after Z's burial. part of the reason it wasn't posted was because it was kinda like a eulogy, and no matter how many edits and revisions i made, it just wasn't good enough. the other and probably bi

Mega Man 3 (And Why All Others Are Inferior)

[#034] Mega Man 3 is the greatest Mega Man game ever created and I'm going to prove it here and now. Many of you favor Mega Man 2, and okay yeah it's a fantastic game with killer music, but MM3 is that and then some. For starters, it introduces two very important characters in the MM Universe. Mega's canine companion, Rush, was perfect in MM3 and MM3 alone. In subsequent games, he was altered to automatically travel forward and then redesigned into a weird armor. The original Rush found in MM3

Android: KitKat VS Lollipop, Nexus 7 model comparisons, & Bluetooth Controller Talk

[#032] i haven't posted a blog in a while so here's 3 related topics:   I. KitKat VS Lollipop II. Nexus 7 VS Nexus 7 III. Bluetooth Controllers     I. KITKAT vs LOLLIPOP   i don't know what the hell they were thinking. Lollipop blows. i actually broke my Nexus 7 trying to downgrade back to KitKat. i replaced said Nexus 7 with the 2013 model (which ships with Jellybean). I upgraded the OS to KitKat 4.4.4 and turned off the notifications nagging me to upgrade to Lollipop.   then i had t

Thorazine

[#031] Thorazine is an anti-psychotic drug given to mental patients. It triggers something in the brain and calms those crazy fuckers down. But since it's a muscle relaxer and targets the diaphragm, it is also the drug given to people like me who had a case of intractable or chronic hiccups. I had that shit for four days.   This past Friday night, I left work 45 minutes before my shift was supposed to end and drove to the emergency room where I waited in pain from 10:30p to 2:30a to finally ge

[#030] i missed out on Breaking Bad during it's run on television but after getting hooked on Better Call Saul (a spin-off show), I went back to start binge-watching as the whole series is on Netflix. i finally finished it up today.   i've got some people at work to yell at. they described the series finale as God's gift to television. it was nowhere near "the most satisfying ending ever".

Broken First-Edition Zelda 3DS

[#029] my original-release black & gold Zelda 3DS is broken. and i had just bought a 32GB SD card to do a transfer over to my all-gold Zelda 3DS XL, but since the system doesn't power up and is in two pieces, that's not gonna happen.   shit.   EDIT: SEE UPDATE BELOW!

Imposters

[#028] there's some kid (or multiple kids) out there using my legendary handle bomberpunk both on YouTube and in various forums and other accounts. It's really annoying, as for the first two decades I spent on the internet, all searches for my name kicked back 100% results relating to me. When I noticed the imposters, probably somewhere around 2006, i created my second awesome name judas ghost (which i used other places but never changed my name here on AtariAge). Then suddenly, there's a goddam

Late Birthday Present From My Daughter

[#027] I became another year older on the 4th. My kid started walking on the 5th. I'll start nailing down some things and moving other things to high shelves on the 6th and hope for the best!   I've got $200 to blow at Home Depot, and I really need a gas trimmer. I'm going to ditch the bump-to-feed plastic line and buy RinoTuff blades. No longer will my yard look like crap in the corners.   I also started reading All You Need Is Kill, a manga which has apparently already been adapted into a
