+Black_Tiger
Now play Bio Metal, Sonic Wings, Super Aleste, R-Type III, or Rendering Ranger and see that it isn't the lower clock speed causing the problem in Gradius III, it's the programmer. As with the Genesis and TG-16, no single spec explains everything, but the SNES also ran slow because of the type of memory the SNES uses. Launch games used even slower roms than later games, where as PC Engine games used pricey memory that runs fast. Of course, this kept HuCard game sizes relatively small. Even if the SNES can run various types of games well enough, it definitely can't handle anywhere near as much as the Genesis and TG-16. Talented programmers getting the best results does show what's possible, but if you pay attention to what's going on at any given time, you'll see both why Gradius III slows down and why those other shooters aren't doing very much compared to the more intense shooters of the generation. R-Type III is a particular bad example, as the entire game runs slower than Super Gradius III's slowdown and there's never much happening. It actually throws around fewer enemies and action at any given time than many/most(?) NES and SMS shooters. Bio Metal is a much better example of a SNES game that is actually throws around as much as an average 16-bit shooter. It still moves slows most of the time and has more slowdown than you'd expect on other consoles. But it also doesn't do a lot of the kind of stuff that causes Gradius III or Parodius Da! to slowdown. Super Aleste is a well balanced plodding shooter which is closer to a high 8-bit game. It almost tosses around as much as Aleste 2 for SMS, but still moves slower than it. Sonic Wings is another average'ish shooter for action. It doesn't do the kind of intense stuff that Gradius does, like a bunch of ricocheting objects shattering into even more ricocheting objects, but most of it is on par with Twin Cobra. Rendering Ranger's shooter segments are like Super Aleste's, in that they're well balanced, although they're much more generic and deceiving. The game moves slow, even though it sometimes scrolls the background very fast to give the illusion of speed. The enemies still float around at the same pace though. The bullets move very fast, so there's never too many onscreen, but I believe that they're all static patterns. They do other things to make it look like a lot is happening, like a background with lots of rocks, but when you're shooting a asteroids, they're not ricocheting and when they shatter, 4 small pieces fly out in static patterns. When the screen actually fills up with lots of enemies, they don't actually move or shoot. It's a kind of generic style over substance game. It is impressive however, for making great use of SNES sprite sizing. The better SNES shooters just show the type of game that the hardware is best suited for: a slow moving methodical shooter. That's cool and it would be nice if more talented devs had decided to do shooters for SNE/SFC. But Super Gradius III, even after being modified compared to the arcade, still does a lot of more intensive stuff. Same with the Parodius games, even if they do slowdown.
Andromeda Stardust
Well that seems to fix just about every problem I've been having with the back end of my TG-16. No more gluing the turbo express to my face just to play galaga. I should check out the for sale forum more often, I think. Strange coincidence, I don't seem to be the only person getting back into TG-16 today. Not sure how I feel about that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SChxdj_Xx0U Oh boy. Expect TG-16 prices to jump through the roof, if they haven't already...
+Charlie Cat
Oh boy. Expect TG-16 prices to jump through the roof, if they haven't already... While I give the dude credit for enjoying an excellent underrated system like the TG-16, I hope his reputation isn't going to ruin it. Worse off, I hope these so called hipsters aren't going to make this unit mainstream and make the prices higher than it already is!! What about the gamers like ourselves that enjoyed it for the last 27 years that love it for what it is? Anthony...

Reaperman
Worse off, I hope these so called hipsters aren't going to make this unit mainstream and make the prices higher than it already is!! I really don't think we have to worry about the hipsters driving up prices. I've heard of kanye west, which means hipsters don't like him. Or is there another definition of hipster that I'm unaware of? We're talking about those beardy guys, right? As I recall mr west was that slow gentleman standing next to mike myers during that katrina video. It's not his fault. If only his parents had gotten him a normal NES way back--like the other kids had--we could have saved america that embarrassed cringe. ...at least they didn't buy him a jaguar--I shutter to think what that kanye would have turned out like. Better than Mike Kennedy and the Chameleon, I hope! I saw a headline the other day that Kanye West was 5 million dollars in debt or some BS. And he hasn't even retired yet from the rap profession. 7800fan
If anything, Kayne can only make TG-16 reseller go bankrupt in a hurry. Hoping for cheap TG-16 stuff soon because everyone snapped up the stuff, flooded the market at too high price creating glut, then crashing down low.

The majority of Turbo games and hardware has been in the hands of resellers for years now. They'd rather never sell an item than get less than the most they believe they can. The same $500 Bonk 3 manual has been rotting on eBay for over 5 years. It's sad that people who want to be internet famous are tripping over themselves to put out Kanye TG-16 videos before the rest do. If only eBay kept the original listing fee, those $500 manual would have been costing seller a lot more than $500 after that long. Alas, free unlimited listing = forever stuck to sell moldy old stuff at too high price.
empsolo
I hear you. BUT JUST WHY are most major brick and mortar retailers so afraid of AO-rated games in US and Canada? I can totally understand Walmart and maybe Best Buy doing so in order to be on the "Safe side", But why Gamestop too? Why so damn afraid of it. At the very least, put the games that are rated AO along with some M-rated titles in a special back room of sorts that is optional for stores to have installed. And YEAH, the number of AO games made for computers is still at most infrequent, I know. Because gamestores selling AO content would run into laws regulating the sale of pornography. This would include sectioning off parts of the store to prevent minors from finding those games. Plus, in today's political climate, AO games are looked down upon as being tasteless, crass, and sexist to newer generations of gamers who don't want such things in the public view. Andromeda Stardust
No AO games are ever going to get released on the big three consoles. More than likely neither will Google, Apple, Amazon devices, etc. Maybe they'll shovel some lamo shit games on PC. Game Consoles are not like DVD/Bluray where anyone can release any content they want. The only AO games will likely be unlicensed hentai imports from Japan. Since this is a Turbografx thread, I recommend Strip Fighter II.
+Black_Tiger
Since this is a Turbografx thread, I recommend Strip Fighter II. Lady Sword is a good game with an English translation available. Also as large as HuCard RPGs get.
sportbettor
Hi, Im kinda new here. I did trade some atari protos 10 years ago though I think here. Anyways, I want to trade turbografx cardboard boxes if anyone is interested, the tone of the the thread makes me think not to many collectors here but Ill give it a shot. Im looking for the vasteel sleeve, the exile sleeve and the timeball cardboard box. I have tons of turbografx boxes i can trade. Im also willing to trade for rare nes boxes/manuals/carts I need. Im also willing to trade non-mint boxes for mint versions of boxes i have in non-mint condition. Id say i have 80% or so of the avaialble cardboard boxes for trade (NO MAGICAL CHASE). Not selling at this time though just wanna trade for turbo/nes and also US blue PIppin software especially marathon. Anyways if anyone is interested I can post lists and pics. Reaperman
I still have a couple Ten No Koe 2 for sale http://atariage.com/forums/topic/236875-fs-pceturbografx-rgb-ampscables-and-rgb-modded-consoles/ I knew there'd be a large bump in video quality between RF and RGB, but somehow I hadn't prepared myself for it properly. It's like I have a whole new system to play today. That old video signal really kept me from taking my TG-16 seriously from day one up until now. It was so good I had to snap a pic off the screen. edit: turns out the spousal unit has approved flashcart funds as well (b-day tomorrow)--but stoneagegamer is out ATM, so it will have to wait a bit.
