Amiga

Sensible World of Soccer 2020 632

Intellivision
Beauty and the Beast 469

Golf (aka PGA Golf) 52

Last week, I sorta hinted that I wouldn't be playing the Amiga version of SWOS as much . . . well I got compelled to continue my single player career and wound up playing a lot more.  Also played a couple games in the Intellivision HSC

Another week of mostly portable gaming.

Atari 2600:

Venture Reloaded - 45 minutes

Sadness:

Atari Lynx:

Hard Drivin' - 150 minutes for HSC

On Duty - 180 minutes for HSC

Cleared in "pacifist" mode!

Ouragan - 30 minutes

A promising beginning to a 3D Tempest clone. It's a darn shame it wiped out.

LCD/Tabletop:

Tiger Stix Meeba - 25 minutes

I've played it a bunch more and it is my considered opinion that the contacts on my copy need to be cleaned. A lot of the time the controls just stop responding.

Nintendo Game Boy:

Pocahontas - 45 minutes

It's a really impressive recreation of the Genesis game but it really runs glacially.

Sega Genesis:

The Cursed Knight - 55 minutes

Amazing new homebrew, played on the Nomad. Early reports were middling but it seems like the feedback was taken into account and the finished game is extremely hard to put down.

Tiger Sega Pocket Arcade:

Indy 500/Sega Raceway - 45 minutes.

It's a really great feeling when you're doing well, but one mistake and you are at the back of the pack.

Streets of Rage - 20 minutes.

It's another in a long line of Tiger run-and-die games. I was kind of hoping it would be more of a real beat em up. Oh well.

Alright, I'm going to post the stuff that I played on Sunday now instead of waiting, mostly because I played some really cool and rare stuff.

Arcade
Dash Yarou - 25

AKA Rally Bike. This instantly became one of my favourite Toaplan games. It's really damn awesome, and it's metal as fuck, too! The enemy motorcyclists and cars don't just crash into stuff, they EXPLODE when they crash! Hell yes. Death and destruction! That's how you know it's a Toaplan game, and it also means Dash Yarou > all other motorcycle racing games where your opponents do not explode. I am absolutely going to try to get the PCB for this, especially since it's apparently not that expensive, but it should eventually be getting a PS4/Switch release, which I will play the hell out of (and so should you!!!!).
Ghox - 40

Toaplan's weird spinner controller game. The second half of this game is quite difficult, but in a frustrating way. I honestly don't really care for this game that much.
River Patrol - 5
Tatsujin Ou - 70

So... I got to play stage 6. I hate stage 6. The reason why is that it has POTATOES OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION. Seriously, those potatoes are WAY more difficult than the final boss, or maybe it's because the difficulty of the final boss increases greatly depending on how powered up you are, but those potatoes are completely ridiculous and I have no idea how to deal with them at all, especially on checkpoint recovery.
Vimana - 25

One of Toaplan's 2 most obscure shooting games, with the other being FixEight. FixEight is now the only Toaplan STG that I have not played, and FixEight and Tiger-Heli are the only Toaplan STGs that I have not played on a real PCB.

For a change, Solar Fox only is the second most played pre-NES game, as Beauty and the Beast jumps up in the ranking. The systems list is particularly close this week; after the PlayStation in #1, there is just over 100 minutes difference between the Arcade in second place and the Amiga in fifth.

Beauty and the Beast also joins the 1000 Minute Club as member #501 with a total of 1078 minutes. It is the 17th Intellivision game to enter this club, and the third one this season. Actually that top list of games to break 1000 minutes this season consists of 4 games for the Atari 2600, 3 games each for Genesis, Intellivision, NES/Famicom and SNES, 2 games for Dreamcast and one each for Amiga, Arcade, Atari 7800, Atari Lynx, CoCo 3, ColecoVision, Neo Geo AES/MVS and TI-99/4A.

You control a Vampyr, with help of your idiot bats you round up humans for harvest. capturing a human turns him into a bat. humans try to avoid ya, when they cross paths with other humans a cross is dropped in the maze. Vampires will die if they touch a cross and bats cannot move past them. Once per level a vampire can power up and eliminate three crosses. There is also a sun moving about the maze. It will eliminate crosses and vampires. Really enjoyed this game, never heard of it until a week ago. A hidden gem!

Here are my times for the past week (October 10th through 16th) on classic systems:

Commodore 64:
Q*bert - 27 min.

This week I replayed Q*bert on the C-64, looking to see if I've improved in that game, but it doesn't seem I really have. It's been a few years that I've extensively played the arcade original, and I got really good at it, reaching Level 10 and more. On the C-64, however, I didn't manage to beat Level 3, although I did apply some of the tactics I learned on the arcade original.

2 hours ago, Atarian7 said:

I guess I should add 2 minutes for E.T.          All I did was fall into a pit about 5 times and then gave up after a minute.  I also had played about a minute earlier and was able to move

around without falling into a pit.

If any part of ET touches the pit, he falls in (not just the feet).  That's not immediately obvious when you start playing and has helped other players in the past.
