Here are my times for this past week (November 14th through 20th) on classic systems:

Arcade:

Commando - 27 min.

MSX:

Commando - 58 min. in 3 sessions

NES:

Commando - 37 min.

This week I concentrated on different versions of "Commando". The MSX one was what I played the longest, but I also tried the NES and the original arcade version. The NES version has modified level layouts and there are also dungeons which you can access after hitting some walls with a grenade which will free the entrance to them. These dungeons, strangely, are also present in the prototype for the Atari 8-bits (which I didn't play) and possibly the Atari 7800 version which has been made by the same company and which also contains weaponry upgrades which aren't there in the original version. The NES version is OK speed-wise, but it's easy to get caught in a tree.

In other news, my 87 year old father fell again and spent 2 days in the hospital, after which they only let him go home under the provision that he'll receive better care there than before, so that's now being worked on.

Quite a lot this week!

Arcade:

Breakout! - 15 minutes

Atari 2600:

Four Activision classics for HSC and one random pick that felt uncomfortably like the Russian idea of warfare.

Barnstorming - 65 minutes

Mostly playing against myself. I won!

GCE Vectrex:

Raid Over Vectrexia - 85 minutes

How’s this for a photo? :D

Very excellent homage to the Will Wright classic Raid on Bungeling Bay.

Pick Axe Pete - 20 minutes

Still really hard. I figured this out more the last time I played it and was struggling to get back to the same level of competence.

UFO! - 25 minutes

I don’t understand how the aiming works in this Odyssey2 port or if you can control it. Pretty fun, though!

LCD/VFD:

Konami Star Trek: 25th Anniversary - 15 minutes.

”That’s not logical!”

Tiger Word Chaos - 35 minutes

I got this fun game for dirt cheap, but alas one row of letters doesn’t work, which makes it much harder.

The problem with several of the exclusive newly finished games on the Genesis Mini 2 is that they were unreleased for a reason. This game is hectic, mind bending, and not very fun. I gave it an honest chance and doubt I will return to it.

MUSHA/Musha Aleste - 35 minutes

Hacked this onto my old Genesis Mini, played it to compare input lag with the Genesis 2 Mini. Seemed comparable. We were all cheated by the omission of this from both Western versions of the mini.

Truxton - 25 minutes

Hurts so good.

Sega CD:

Robo Aleste - 15 minutes

It’s not bad, but it’s also not as good as its predecessor.

Intellivision

Beamrider 516 (p.b. 127,968)

Only one game for the Intellivision HSC - Beamrider.  I like this game a lot, so it was easy to put in some extra time to hit my personal best.  The HSC would normally end tonight, but it has been extended until Thanksgiving.  With the scoring being a bit weird (buddy system), I'll have to be clever as I post my scores.  I think I can win the round.

This week I played:

Final Fantasy III (VI) for Super Nintendo - 106 minutes

Pokemon Gold Version for Game Boy Color - 448 minutes

Progress:

Final Fantasy 6 - I finished Sabin's split up scenario with everyone's favorite battle with the ghost train and got to the point where your first 7 characters are reunited for the first time.

Pokemon Gold - I now have the first 7 badges and a Pokedex of 59.

Solar Fox - 124 minutes

I have no idea how to get more than 25 on Freeway.

Fishing Derby seems like a play until you get lucky kind of game and I lost patience quickly.

Beamrider on the Intellivision moves up quite a few spots on the pre-NES list and all the way to first place on both that one and the overall list! Pokémon Gold is a strong overall second, while Solar Fox leads the Atari 2600 to the systems title this week. The Genesis was 1 minute away from last place in that list!

Two new members of the 1000 Minute Club:

#510 Beamrider (Intellivision) - 1236 min.

#511 Donkey Kong (Atari 8-bit) - 1001 min.

That is the 18th Intellivision game and the 6th Atari 8-bit game to enter this club.
