Intellivision Amico’s trademark changed to ‘abandoned’

I think it just depends on how old your child is. If they're mature enough for you to let them near M-rated games, with all the other content (gore, violence, profanity, gambling, language, online chat, etc.) that entails, they can probably handle the odd spot of boobage.

If not, I can only suggest that you keep them well away from any device that can be connected to the internet as the vast majority of them will give you access to pr0n a heck of a lot more easily than a Switch would.

Full disclosure I am a slight "prude" regarding what children should be exposed to, though I do not have kids of my own. If I did they would not be allowed to play M rated games of any sort. No Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, etc. If they were around 15 years old then maybe I'd be willing to budge on the "no Call of Duty" thing, but I've seen firsthand the literal depravity of what porn addicted people can sink to and there's no way I'd willingly allow my child access to something intended for 18+. I can't find it now, so it may have been delisted (or I'm remembering wrong), but I'd swear to you there was a hentai game on the eShop called "Anime Feet" that was just foot fetish material (a version of it is still on Steam). That one may not be available anymore, but the furry fetish one still is. Depending on how far you want to push the needle there are other "adult adjacent" games that conservative parents probably would not want their children exposed to either and I don't think setting adult content filters would catch these games because they aren't explicitly pornographic.

I think the problem people have is Nintendo has historically always been seen as the "family friendly" platform. Things like religious themes, nudity, gambling, and other similar things had to be removed from games that wanted to be released on a Nintendo console. M rated games existed on later platforms but they were uncommon and usually stand out titles like Resident Evil 4 and Eternal Darkness. It seems like Nintendo just willingly allowed the floodgates to be opened on the eShop however and it is (seemingly) entirely unmoderated. It's obvious why allowing a child unrestricted (or poorly restricted) access to the internet is an extremely bad thing. Again if I had kids they'd have a boring flip phone until they were 18 and they would not be allowed to own their own PC or laptop and the computer we did own would be in a place where I'd be able to monitor what they were doing and who they were talking to. Concerned parents know this, but a Nintendo console seems like a safe bet where you can give it to a child and assume that they won't see anything you would not approve of. This has changed, sadly.

What search history are you talking about, all you need to do is Google Switch adult games to find the same results that I did. Another way to find out about these games it to just browse the switch stores discount section ( which is how I found this garbage), right after you see cool stuff like the Contra or the Street Fighter collection on sale you'll inevitably run into this type of shovelware if you keep scrolling down, Nintendo does absolutely nothing to hide this content from people who just want to browse for real games and it's a damn shame that they seemingly don't care about they're wholesome family friendly imagine anymore.

Are you well practiced in typing one handed?

I don't know about you but I wouldn't want my child having access to pictures of naked women. I am aware that there are measures in place where you can restrict what a given Nintendo account can view on the eShop but we all know that's not going to stop a determined youngster.

This is not the dunk that you think it is.

In the grand scheme the ultra violent games is probably worse than books. Oddly enough people seem to get more upset at boons than violently killing things.

That's what has always been funny to me about Amico. A selling point was using a phone which allows any child access to much worse than hentai games.

If a parent can't keep their kid from seeing hentai games on Switch they aren't keeping them from porn or worse on the phone.

Your kids would get mad at you. Say they hate you, and then use their friends phones.

Also don't give them a chromebook. Smart TV, or even a flip phone. Your kid can still send and receive nudes from flip phones.

Just giving you a heads up for if you decide to actually finally start breeding.

There isn't a sure tried and true method to keep stuff away from kids beyond locking them up in a room and not allowing them any friends or things. The best you can do is educate them the best you can and hope they make good decisions or learn from their mistakes.

Either way when it comes to Switch its pretty damn simple currently. Like I said Jr. Beefy doesn't see any of that and I have zero parental controls set up.

I'm still waiting on those highly researched numbers between Switch and Steam that TOTALLY wasn't just pulled out someone's ass...

IMO, if your children pout and say your parenting is "unfair" then you're probably doing them a service without them realizing it. When they are older and an understand the lengths you went to for their own good they'll come back around and have an immense respect for you. If I had children they would absolutely hate me between the ages of probably 12 to their mid to late 20's and I've already accepted that.

I check Steam and the Switch eShop every day, and I can tell you it's absolutely wrong. Now I agree there are too many of these games on Switch, indeed, but still (btw they are now on GOG.com as well).

Come back and talk to me about it after you've had a teenager.

Like I said unless you lock them up in a room and don't allow them any friends, they will have access. You wouldn't be the first "prude parent" I've had to have hard conversations with. 😭

Dude let him put up. He made a claim let him back it up with numbers and not some synthwave brain addled claim.

I do agree there are way more than there should be on all the platforms.

I'm curious if all these people who get mad at Nintendo over it also get mad at TV companies, other videogame companies, bluray makers, book companies, cell phone companies, print presses, social media companies, computer and chromebook makers?

Bringing it back to the Amico I have also said that those ultra prude/whatever households they wanted to target would have issues with many of their games.

War/death/destruction - Tanks/Missile Command/Biplanes/Side Swipers/dynablaster

Witchcraft/demons/non-Christian religions/etc. - Nightstalker (also gun violence), Cloudy Mountain, Finnegan Fox, Shark Shark, Astrosmash (aliens)

Granted we don't know if there were any games slated for Amico with boobs, but I will say it was ran by boob for the longest time. That's at least an FCC cert partial credit type of thing.

If this is secretly a dig at my now  infamous Synthwave and Recharged game threads I have to make one thing clear here, for you  and anyone else that reads this, I don't regret making those threads even if they resulted in some very cringy moments on my part. Ledzep  never actually managed to disprove my claims that Atari's identity is intrinsically tied to the Space age or that Synthwave aesthetics fit Atari games  like a glove. Everytime I provided evidence to those claims he simply moved the goalpost and demanded that I provide even more "persuasive" evidence for him to finally be convinced. After a while of this pointless back and forth I just gave up and made that now infamous statement that it was all just my "romantic interpretations" on the subject so that he would finally get off my back.

It's actually a dig about you making a very specific statement as factual yet notbproviding anything but some screenshots which do not back up said claim.

He's also the second person to ask for numbers. Which instead of providing (since you stated with such confidence), you instead are whining about digs.

Wah wah don't question me!!!!!!!

This is the same BS that most of us had to listen to all throughout this dumb saga. "We have the DATA" WAH WAH WAH. You can't have opinions because Tommy has DATA and you don't! WAH WAH WAH.

Com'on TommyJohnPhilRichards give us the data about how many more porn games there are on Switch than Steam. OR just admit you are talking out of your butt, suck your thumb, and go pout while listening to some synthwave to aid you obvious fragile feelys for the next time someone asks you to back your "factual" statement up.

You want me to go count the amount of porn games available on Steam vs the Switch? Yeah no if you're that interested in knowing which system has objectively the most amount of adult  games go do that yourself. I'll say this tho, the reason why I even brought up this topic is because I was annoyed as fuck when I was browsing the Switch's online store during the latest  spring sales and kept running into this garbage, meanwhile on steam when I go to the discount section you won't find this crap until you go like 50 pages deep, these "games"  are much more well hidden on Steam than on the Switch which is puzzling when you think about Nintendo's family friendly image that they've worked so hard to cultivate.

In which case, you should be complaining that browsing the eShop is a dogs dinner of an experience because you're constantly getting bombarded with low quality apps, some of which are a bit smutty, making the good games hard to find. Nobody would disagree with that. When looking for new Switch games, I prefer to use external sites like Metacritic and Deku Deals because they let you search on a lot more criteria and filter out the fluff.

The idea that its handful of M-rated anime boob games somehow outnumber and are more explicit than the thousands of games on Steam that feature graphic sex needs to be put to bed though.

No, but when people state a “fact”- for example that the Switch has more mature games then Steam- an actual data point would be nice. Or, again, is this just a strongly held opinion based on your perception that you’ve decided must be true?

The Switch obviously doesn't have more adult games than Steam, but I don't think that was the point. And by the way, the adult games ARE moderated (to a degree) when they're digital on Switch, but not when they're physical, i.e., they can show more without censoring, e.g., not just topless.

I've long pointed out the availability of said content on just about all platforms, especially for those who say the Switch is the most family-friendly or best for kids in terms of content. It's not. No platform inherently is. That's exactly what parental controls are for. It's the same with any other form of media. Don't restrict stuff appearing on the platform, and, if someone is genuinely concerned, they use the parental controls. Pretty simple. And obviously it's something of a double-standard with violence versus "sexy," especially in America.

Yeah, video games really took the violence to the next level, but they haven't been "sexy" since the Atari 2600 days of Custer's Revenge, Beat 'Em and Eat 'Em, etc.  Those games had class.

He's a cool dude but not someone you want to have an argument with, I've learned from experience, it's simply impossible to compromise with him on any subject, he always has to be 100% right and the opposition 100% wrong

Can you even begin to imagine the backlash if someone tried to do a Custer's Revenge sequel or remake with modern 3d graphics, it would make the current Sweet Baby Inc controversy look tame in comparison.

He was called out. Therefore it's a joke when he can't backup his dumb claims. (Tommy did same thing. Peak, controller, etc.) There's your signal.

🙄

Speaking of calling out dumb claims.... Aren't we like nearing 10 years out from the RetroVGS/Chameleon? How have people not learned to call out dumb claims without evidence. I mean shouldn't we know better by now than to just listen to idiots like Tommy Tallarico who is trying to get money without backing up such claims? I think that was one of the sadder things from this, is seeing jaybird3rd not call out stuff he should have known better about accepting at face value. I hope he's doing okay.

How many years before the next retro console scam/bad idea? Has it been long enough for Coleco to have another go?

Once again, no. These games are not well hidden on Steam, but Steam offers so many more games that it seems there are less of them, that's all. But there are also even more shitty and generic games, even if they're not adult only.

That being said, Steam offers filters to remove them (even though it sometimes removes good games unfortunately), but you have to be logged in, which doesn't protect kids at all.
