I just got another 1050 off of ebay.   🙂

The buyer wanted $25 and I offered $15.  Offer accepted!

Hopefully it's repairable.   :-D

If I can get it working, I'll put a Happy 7.1 in it.  😎

I wonder where this stuff is stored that it get's so filthy.

Well, it cleaned up nice.  The electronics are in great shape.  The mechanism is in great shape.  It homes but the spindle motor doesn't turn.  After some troubleshooting, it appears the spindle motor windings are open.  😞

Ok.  I figured I had nothing to lose, so I pulled the motor and found out my probes weren't contacting the connector contacts right.  After double-checking, I found out the windings do have resistance.  So, I put the motor on a power supply and found the motor would start unless I spun it by hand under power.  After lubricating the bearings and running it for a while, the motor works!  So, the motor now spins up properly.  After re-installing the motor and drive mechanism, the computer now isn't talking to the drive.  Troubleshooting continues....

Edit to add:

After swapping cables and connecting the drive directly to the computer, it works!  I just adjusted the RPMs from 289 to 288.  Another 1050 back from the dead.   🙂

I bought a Mitsumi 503 5.25" drive mech and I had a spare XF551 MB so I am going to install it in a 1050 case so I will have XL styled DSDD drive.  I have just finished installing a 3.5 mech in an XL case. I'm just waiting for the 1035 label I am having made before I post pictures.

So you're the one who has been snatching these all up.  I actually had to pass on the first one, I wasn't sure about the discoloring/staining on the top, curious if it cleaned up?  Seller said they couldn't easily clean it off.

Yeah, it’s a bit  discolored. Keyboard needs repair.

Took a bit of a chance buying an untested 1050 drive. Paid off. Not only does it boot up a disk but straight away it was fast loading.

Opened it up to find what I am assuming is a Happy clone (Lazer maybe?). Any thoughts?

:)

Cool. Perhaps start a thread i te Atari ST forum . Be good to see it running.

Yup I was very happy with my 1050. Most of the time they have issues but are stock. This was a good find.

So dy'a reckon it's a Lazer/Happy clone looking at the pics?

It looks like the same board as this Hyperdrive . Seems like a bit of a rarity. Nice find!

Just ordered an RF adapter and controller for a 5200 system.  Just spotted an ATR 8000 for $1000.  Don't think my wife will like me buying that one.

* That's $1000 Canadian ~$758 US

Picture 1 of 7

Koala pad and cart - shown tested and working on the listing. No stylus but I can use a finger or presumably a modern equivilant.

Whinging it's way to be from the US. I saw it and couldn't resist it as read good reviews for the Koala pad from BITD.

:)

EDIT:

Also found this video with it's creator on YT which I'll watch later :)

EDIT2: and also plan to watch this one from AA's very own fellow forum member Paul Westphal  :)

Picked this up as part of a bundle. Should have it by the weekend. 😁

Interestingly after a quick Google search it seems a lot of these were branded with different 8/16 bit system names. This one actually has Commodore/Atari on it which is cool:

Anyone have any clue as to what it hooks up an atari to via sio?

Highly likely it came with a particular printer, I've never seen one with an interface like that, so

must have been made specifically for the Atari. ?

I suspect that cable connects an Atari 8bit computer via SIO  to a C64 userport and with a small program the C64 emulates a printer. Either to transfer text data to the C64 or to forward the text to a commodore printer connected to the IEC port of the C64. That could be useful in a household that has both types of computers.
