Amazon Fire TV Stick

Before the Stick   I think I got my Blu-ray player in 2012 and it was able to handle Netflix, but it doesn't recognize Amazon Instant Video. It was nice for a while, but the menu for Netflix seems to be getting slower, it keeps forgetting my viewing progress, and it doesn't automatically play the next episode of a TV show. My sister uses her PlayStation 4 to watch Netflix and it has a much better menu and it will automatically play the next episode. I wished that I could also have a better way

Stella Custom TV Effects Settings

I have a new Windows 8 computer and have been trying to get everything set up the way it was on my Windows 7 PC. I knew that I made a screenshot of my Stella TV Effects settings, so I went searching Manage Attachments under My Settings here at AtariAge and finally found it on page 26:     Those settings make games look more like they did when I played them on a real TV. If I get a new Windows 10 computer some time in 2016, I can come back here and copy these settings again.   I'm posting

Terraria for Xbox 360

I just tried the Terraria demo for the Xbox 360 and so far it looks like it might be more fun than Miner Dig Deep. It feels like Miner Dig Deep crossed with a Super Nintendo game. I think I might buy it. Some people say that it's just a side-scrolling 2D version of Minecraft. I tried Minecraft, but the low-res textures forced me to quit before too long. It almost looks worse than the original Doom from the early 1990s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jP2jI0BVG0w Low-res textures make

Searching for a Word Near Another Word (Proximity Search)

I recently got a friendly virtual kick in the pants from a couple of people to get back to work on my release date pages for Atari 2600 games:   randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-history-1982.html   randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-history-1983.html   Since then I've been searching long full text versions of old magazines using Google, but it has been taking too much time to find info for a single game. If you search for a game name with VCS OR 2600, it's not very helpful since th

Convert JPG to PDF (Free Online)

I wanted to put a bunch of JPG images into a PDF file so they'd be easier to read and easier to convert to text, so I went Googling and tried this web site:   www.convert-jpg-to-pdf.net   It seems to be working great so far (after allowing cookies). I used it twice last night to put JPG magazine scans into PDF files and I'll be using it some more later today. This should end up saving me a lot of time in the long run.         Random Terrain __

Skyrim: Duplicating Items

I'm replaying Skyrim and I forgot how to duplicate items. I looked at a few videos and web pages, but none of them seemed to do what I was doing before. I know I got this info from some video or page online, but I might have adapted it. The good news is that my memory got refreshed. Here is my favorite way to duplicate items in case I forget again:   1. Walk or fast travel to Whiterun Stables. I always fast travel so I'll be at the spot that I'll be in again later when fast traveling. 2.

Able to Test batari Basic Games on a Real TV Again

After getting a smaller computer desk a couple of years ago, I no longer had room for my little color TV. I had to jump through hoops to make my Atari 2600 work with the LCD HDTV that I use with my computer and Xbox 360. It looked OK, but it wasn't the same as 'normal' TV.   My sister was getting rid of her 20 inch flat screen TV since she moved on to HDTV, so I brought it home and spent hours rearranging things and now the TV is on the top shelf above and behind my HDTV. I hooked up the Atari

Lost 34 Pounds So Far

I went to the doctor yesterday and he said that I've lost 34 pounds since the last time I was there on May 29th. I had to make a special appointment yesterday because I had to stop taking shots and temporarily stop taking my pills for Type 2 Diabetes since my blood sugar kept dropping too low. He now has me on only one pill and I'll probably have to stop taking that one of these days as I lose more weight and eventually get rid of my Type 2 Diabetes.         Random Terrain __

Was Einstein wrong? (Howell's Theory of Relativity)

I was looking for something else and found this article that I cut out from the Greensboro News & Record newspaper. I'm guessing that it was from around 1994. When I cut out the article, I forgot to keep the top of the paper that had the date.   What happened with John Howell and his book? Did he give up? Was he proven wrong? I must be using the wrong words when I use a search engine because I can't find one thing about it. I posted the article below in case you want to read it and see if

Just Had a Dream About Future 3D Printers

3D Printer Dream   I was looking through the eyes of a reporter on a big set where different experts sat next to the items that they were going to talk about. For example, the expert talking about food was sitting next to a small area that was set up to look like part of a produce aisle (fresh fruits and vegetables aisle) at a grocery store. It was a recreation of that area on the wall that is always getting sprayed with water when you walk by.   A remote controlled camera followed the repor

Miner Dig Deep (Xbox 360)

I stopped playing this Xbox 360 indie game a fairly long time ago when I got bored with the long elevator rides, but I recently started playing it again and got down to the bottom. I won't tell you what is down there in case you haven't played it, but I don't think it will spoil anything to let you know that you can choose to keep all of your items and start all over with a new map if you want. Starting over will all of your items is a lot of fun.     Random Terrain

Centerset Bathroom Faucet Installed

I've wanted to have a centerset bathroom faucet for a long time, similar to the kind my family has had in our kitchens for decades, but it was always low on the list of things to buy. Well, the faucet in my bathroom has been dripping hot water for a while, so I just got a centerset bathroom faucet installed today. No more dripping and no more knobs. I can press the water on with the clean side of my hand, just like in the kitchen.   It may not seem like a big deal, but I hate faucet knobs. I a

$3.85 an hour at Toys "Я" Us in 1986

I was looking through some old papers and saw that I was making $3.85 an hour when I started working at Toys "Я" Us (October 30, 1986). I was one of the many people who helped get the store stocked and fixed up for the grand opening. After the store was ready for the public, I was working in the security booth with all of the video games and computer stuff. (I had to write a lot of the tickets by hand for the year that I worked there and I guess that wrecked my hand. After that, I couldn't hold

7800 Thoughts Are Making Me Happy

Although I've had an Atari 7800 for a long time, I didn't pay that much attention to the guts of it. I knew it could play most Atari 2600 games, but I didn't know until fairly recently that Atari 7800 games used the same sound chip as Atari 2600 games unless the POKEY sound chip is in the cart. I've heard people talk about the POKEY sound chip for years, but I thought it was in the Atari 7800, not in the carts.   That's good news for me because I hope to start working on my first Atari 7800 ga

DPC+ Version of ChipOff for the Atari 2600 Is Finally Done

You can try it here:   atariage.com/forums/topic/211497-chipoff-breakout-style-example-program/?p=2739693   I should have finished it back in 2013, but I was too busy procrastinating. I got new glasses in April of 2014 and now it's much easier to concentrate. I hope this means I'll keep chugging along and get some new games made.       Random Terrain __

Early Birthday Present (Exercise Bike)

I got a Gold's Gym Cycle Trainer 290 C Upright Exercise Bike on Wednesday as an early birthday present. I put it together last night. Seems to be pretty sturdy. It's a little hard to ride, even with the seat all the way back. It must be made for people with shorter legs.   I also went to the eye doctor on Wednesday to double check my eyes without drops and ordered some glasses with prism lenses in them. I'll be able to see in 3D again in 7 to 10 days.         Random Terrain __

I'm an Amazon associate again!

I was dropped by Amazon years ago because I live in North Carolina, but now that the fighting is over, I'm an Amazon associate again!   If you click on the link below before buying stuff from Amazon, I'll get a small percentage of the sale:   www.amazon.com/?tag=randterr-20   (Don't worry, it won't cost you more, I'll just get a percentage.)     I'll change all of the Amazon book links on my web site from regular links to affiliate links, but that may take a few weeks or maybe even a fe

5 Things You're Probably Doing Wrong In The Shower

Check out this Huffington Post article:   5 Things You're Probably Doing Wrong In The Shower   "You're Not Using a Handheld Shower Head" should have been added to the list. I can't believe that people in civilized societies (who have extra money) are still using shower heads that stay stuck up on the wall. If you take the water where you need it by using a hand-held shower head, you can save yourself a lot of time and trouble.   Be sure to look at the third item in the article about gettin

Fallout 3 Spoilers: Benefits of Blowing Up Megaton

By now anyone who wanted to play Fallout 3 probably has, but just in case, don't read this if you haven't played and hate spoilers. I've played through the main missions around 4 times now. I kept replaying to see what would happen when making different choices. This time I decided to blow up Megaton and live in the nicer Tenpenny Tower suite for a change. After blowing up Megaton, I visited the spot and Moira Brown was there without most of her skin, or maybe it was just extra crunchy. I th

I Love Useful Videos on the Internet

Seems like there is a video on the Internet to help with almost anything you can think of. Around a week ago, I used this video to help me replace a bathroom fan:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UIwFGfAEuc     Over a year ago, the controller that came with my Xbox 360 developed a squeaky trigger and one of the thumbsticks got damaged when I dropped it while stretching with the controller in my hand like an idiot. I finally got around to buying a new one in November of 2013, but the st

Netflix Has Improved

I had Netflix 4 or 5 years ago and things have improved since then. The player in the browser on my PC seems to be a lot more professional and user-friendly than it used to be. I also have a different setup than I had back then, so I'm not just limited to using a PC.   I wirelessly connected my Blu-ray player to the Internet tonight with the little USB thingy that came with it and now I'm watching Season 3 of Fringe on my HDTV. Looks pretty darn good. I can pause, fast-forward, and rewind with

Seaweed Assault is in the AtariAge Store

Here's a link to the store page: atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1032 Here are two reviews: RGCD 8-bit Central I hope this won't be the first and last game of mine to get into the AtariAge store. I'd like to make more games, including a semi-original adventure game, but with the DPC+ version of batari Basic only having 26 variables, it may never happen. Any type of game that I'd like to make requires more variables. For example, Seaweed Assault used at least 74

Secret Area in Iron Brigade - Survival: Settlement

Is this considered a glitch, a secret area, or a hidden area? Whatever it's called, the video below that I made last night using a crappy video capture card shows how you can get up on the hill that surrounds a lot of the playfield in the Survival: Settlement mission on Mars. I get up on the hill multiple times in this video to show that it can be done any time you want.   Once you are up on the hill, if you walk away from the playfield, drop off the ledge, then walk far enough, you will telep

I'm Getting Really Tired of Working on My Web Site

Seems like links and YouTube videos go dead faster than you can blink. You have to check videos by hand and links by hand too since link checkers suck at telling you when a link redirects to a new page.   Then there's the Google problem. Google tells web site owners to be natural and that you shouldn't make your pages for them, but then they contradict themselves and say that you have to keep track of every word on a page and not repeat the same word more than a few times if you don't want Goo
