    • I remember back in the day, trying to ask Mark Cale of System/Studio 3, some misc questions about various lost games.    I was met by his agent who said Mark would not be answering Q's about any unreleased game, the interview had to appear in a magazine like Retrogamer and had to get used to promote new products.      Feck that, i got the answers through other sources and now here's Mark pushing a Kickstarter, promoting bonus material such as early footage on the unreleased IK++, Last Ninja 4 etc.    So, yes, there are instances where those due to be interviewed, won't allow for  a 'tougher' line of questioning and want to use the interview as a promotional platform.
    • So at this point I assume we're probably somewhere beyond the half-way point in the VCS' commercially-supported life, just based on the way hardware and software goes. It's been so great an overall experience over the years compared to what it might have been had things gone differently that the remaining persistent negative voices are just gonna have to live with the fact that people who aren't them are enjoying it, which is very difficult for some people. I think us more positive VCS owners are probably gonna have to live with the reality that whatever it's biggest commercial potential was has probably passed, and at this point we are looking at slowly diminishing support over the next couple of years. But I can see the hardware itself still being totally usable for at least another five years, so we'll see I guess! And slowly diminishing support still means plenty of good to great games coming out for some time to come.   It seems like the VCS has also found a nice niche as a way for very small developers to get their games in front of actual people, both for minor commercial benefit and for very important real-world feedback. So the value of the console remains very high on the developer side I think, although this is for people who are happy selling hundreds of copies per platform. There are a LOT of game devs not even doing those numbers, including so many on Steam you might be able to argue "most".  Hardware still looks good and plays great years later, I've had no major hardware issues since December 2020. Controllers are another story, I think the Modern Controller's final judgement will be it was a good controller to use, great controller even, but it had some hardware issues that gave them too short of a life span before left stick drift sets in. I've gone through four controllers, on my fifth, so I guess I like it, but their life span for me is about six months if I'm lucky. Classic controller is a similar story, it's a game changer and fantastic but also a bit rickety and prone to developing issues after about six months of regular use.
    • Guess we should call it the 2.5 generation then (5200/Coleco Vision/SG1000 etc ).
    • Those 6 byte in the file are called the GRAMKRACKER HEADER as they tell you the location in GRAM to load and the Size and if file is first or last.
    • Afaik their Exidy DX or whatever it's titled is still in development. As far as ownership goes beyond the Exidy name I don't think game ownership was part of that. This came up when I tried to get them to license arcade titles to iiRcade for their cabinet and we were told it's only the Exidy name that's owned.  I don't see any of that affecting anyone releasing a version of the game, the more the merrier 😉
    • ah Pauline isn't an Atari remake or fpga thing, it's a flux dump device. So it's already RPM aware. Problems in reading can occur using High density drives to read low density disk, and also in writing them out. Some of which are overcome in settings for reading and others that can NOT be overcome in writing. A disk made in a higher density drive can be made and read by other high density drives at lower densities, but that disk many times will not be readable by real BITD lower density drives. They are not backwards or downwards compatible. It's best to use a double sided double density drive to write them out. It's been noted some including myself had better result reading with flux devices with the lower density disks in lower density mechs. Some drives just like used in the XF551 can benefit from and index faker for reading the second side of disks from the Atari 8 bit floppies.
    • Ok, cool, thanks, I can see what's happening.  It's trying to move to a 32-bit register and when it tries to get the low part it fails, because of course regs are 16-bit.  I've added code to check if target is a reg and put it into two consecutive regs instead if that is the case. This change has been made and pushed to the 1.32 branch.  The compiler error does not appear any more but I'll run some more tests as well.
    • I was 6 when the VCS came out, and I was in Cub Scouts until around 10 or 11, we used to go to Cub Scouts Bowling league every Saturday morning at a Bowling Alley with an Arcade, and we all loved the Arcade. But I remember nobody I knew having a VCS until much later, after Space Invaders and Pac-Man were household names.
