#100!

I just got my 100th NES game. Went to Game Crazy and got Tennis, Orb 3D, Jackal, Image Fight and Astayanax, so any one of those could be considered game #100. And I'm not going to stop there, I'll still collect NES games. Also, tomorrow, I am definitely going to get my wisdom teeth pulled, so I might not be on the internet that much because I'll be recouperating. I saw Mole Mania for Game Boy for $7. and I almost bought it because I didn't see that many NES games I wanted, but I figured, hey, wh

My trip to Game Crazy

The "used video game store" I go to is called Game Crazy, and from now on, I'll say Game Crazy. Well, anyway I went there and got Spot, Star Trek 25th Anniversary, Cyberball, and TNMT2. Funny story about the last one. I remember playing it as a kid, but I didn't know which one. About a year or so ago, I bought the first TNMT, played it for a bit and thought to myself "This isn't the game I remember." As it turns out, three of them were made for the NES! After playing TNMT2 for a little bit, that

1-81 Blazers season

Man, I guess that win on Wednesday was just because it was my birthday. After tonight's disappointing loss to Golden State, I'm predicting a Blazers season of one win and 81 losses. It's already 1 loss, so all they need to do is lose 80 more games this season and my prediction will be true. Then, I will land my job: Odds maker at Vegas. I bet I'm the only one who will say the Blazers will have 1 win this whole season, and this blog, written before the second game is even over, is proof that I pr

Gosub 2

I'm working on a sequel to Gosub called, well, Gosub 2. And thanks to SeaGtGruff's suggestion on my Capital I game, the first version was 1,695 bytes. After implementing said thingee, it was 2,151 bytes, a saving of over 450 bytes! Right now, there's 4 screens, but I hope to have over 10 by the time it's finished, which should be in early 2007. I really should get back to programming the capital I game, but I have no idea what to do next when it comes to screens. At first, it was just a demo t

Happy Birthday to me!

Today is my birthday! The Blazers gave me an early birthday present and actually won last night, beating Seattle 110-106! It looked as though Seattle was going to win, but Ime Udoka got a rare rebound off a Portland free-throw attempt. What really helped cement the win was Seattle missing a three-pointer. And what really helped even more was Portland getting the rebound. And what really helped even more was Portland got fouled with a half-second left and got two free-throw attempts. I'm also go

Top Ten: November 2006

1. Grand Prix 2. Word Zapper 3. Hangman 4. Dig Dug 5. Moon Patrol 6. Ms. Pac-Man 7. Othello 8. Asteroids 9. Video Pinball 10. Jr. Pac-Man   Grand Prix takes the top spot for the fourth month in a row, but either #2 or #3 could take the top spot next month. I have been having a lot of fun with new games Word Zapper and Hangman, and another new entry at #7, Othello. Also, Asteroids, long absent from my top 10 list, makes its return at #8. See ya all tomorrow, with a report on the Blazer

Halloween has come and gone.

This year, we had 10 trick-or-treaters. More than last year, but I remember two years ago when we had about 30. Living in a trailer park, you'd expect more, but I guess it was too cold (either that or the fact that there was a party at the rec hall.) In yesterday's blog, I mentioned that the low would be 24. It was 26. Not as cold as they expected, but they also said 24 again tonight. Well, we'll see about that. That's very cold for Halloween standards where I live. But by tomorrow evening, rain

24

That's how cold it's supposed to be tonight. Sorry if I misled you viewers of the FOX show of the same name. And I'll be up taping Jay Leno's funny headlines (that is, if it's not a repeat) And on Halloween night, it's supposed to be 29. Not that trick-or-treaters will be out in the middle of the night knocking on people's doors. To put this 24 degree coldness in perspective, yesterday's record low in our town was 23 in 1971. So we might well break a record with this, depending on what the recor

My b-day party

I just got finished with my birthday party. My birthday is Thursday, but we celebrated it today so people wouldn't have to come over here after work to do it. I got 2007 Guinness World Records book, an animated Halloween figure of a coffin, a big rubber spider, $125 from my grandpa, $100 from my dad, and Break 'Em All for the DS. Plus, my mom will buy me a game that's supposed to be out on the 13th (Yoshi's Island DS.) I also went to the video game store earlier and picked up two rarity 5s for t

2 B's or not 2 B's?

Went to Game Crazy earlier today. Not much there this time, but I did get Jurassic Park (B), and Palamedes (B+) according to Mike Etler's NES rarity list. Jurassic Park was made in 1993, and I really like NES games made after 1992 for some reason. 2 Zoda's Revenge (early 1994) was still sitting on the shelf, both still priced $6.99. Want to get rid of them? Sell them at $2.99 like all the other cheap NES games. And is Chubby Cherub really worth $4.99? Geez. Here's the thing about these stores th

Sponge Lover

Well, I finally bought the complete 3rd season of SpongeBob SquarePants. I wanted this for my birthday last year, but other things took higher priority, plus it was probably more expensive back then. I found this at Wal*Mart for $26. It has some of my favorite episodes like Krab Borg, Idiot Box, and One Krab's Trash. Who can forget Smitty, who was #1 "I just want the hat back.", the old man who thought SpongeBob was a box of bran flakes, or Squidward going insane during a snowball fight? This is

Mike the Headless Chicken

Some games I make derive from hatred for others. Take for instance, Miner 2049er. If you fall off the edge of a platform, you die. Is that fair? No. So what I'm doing here is taking Miner 2049er's platform deals, replacing the miner with a headless chicken, and replacing the goal of walking along every single part of every platform (that's a stupid goal) into how many handfuls of henscratch Mike can get in 60 seconds. How to work the game thus far: Flip the game reset switch using your favorite

Top 10 list for all systems

November's top 10 list for just the 2600 will come after I get a shipment from a trade deal. But for now, have you ever wondered what I play besides the 2600 and DS? Well, I'll stop your wondering for you.   1. Mario Kart 64 - Nintendo 64 2. Mario Kart DS - Nintendo DS 3. New Super Mario Bros. - Nintendo DS 4. Grand Prix - Atari 2600 5. Tetris - Game Boy 6. Super Mario Land 2 - Game Boy 7. NBA Jam: Tournament Edition - Super NES 8. Polarium - Nintendo DS 9. Dr. Mario 64 - Nintendo 64

Look at my cartoon!

Not many people know this, but I also draw. I also have a cartoon I update weekly at http://chrisread.comicgenesis.com called "Chris's Collection of Crappy Comics." Right now, the only one up there is Jessica, a comic strip about a 13-year-old girl. And, seeing as how it's been running since April and apparently people visit the site (I can tell by the statistics), not once has anybody commented on it. And, I am interested on how everyone thinks how badly I draw. So, if you could do me a favor a

DS Game collecting

Apart from collecting Atari 2600 games, I also collect Nintendo DS games. Some of them I like to play, others because they're big names. The game I got today is a big name one: Trauma Center: Under the Knife. I want Star Fox Command, but I'm waiting until the price goes down (I bet Trauma Center was $35 at one point, got it for $30.) One I really want but can't find anywhere is Sudoku Mania. Everybody has Sudoku Gridmaster, but I want "Mania" because it has a built-in sudoku puzzle maker, while

Pitfall?

Worked on Super Mario Bros. a little more. Once you go down the pipe, you'll find a few Spinys and once you get to the end, the screen changes and there's a big hole to jump over. Fixed the pipe glitch, although you can still walk in front of it. And one game in particular popped in my mind when I was testing this. That's right, Pitfall. Is this too much of a Pitfall clone, or should I keep working on this? I'd like some comments on this.

SMB2600

I'm working on a Super Mario Bros.-type game for the 2600. Forget Super Maria Sisters, this one is going to be really neat. Right now, it's just one screen, but it's a nice screen with a pipe. If you stand on the very top of the pipe, you can go down it. Right now it's set up that once you go down it, you end up at the beginning, but I'm going to put a second screen for down beneath the pipe (like 1-2). Fire is jump, left and right moves Mario left and right. I'm completely winging it right now,

Busy Day

I had a busy day today. First, I went to the coin store. I'm trying to collect coins from different countries. I have 54 so far. That's just about all the coin collecting I do. Then, I went to the used video game store. Looked at this funny looking Atari dealie, then realized it was a Flashback 2.0, so I passed up on it. Got the Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. I now have that, a Mega Man game,a Castlevania game, and the Metroid Game Boy game. Now all I need is Donkey Kong '94 and I'll be set

Gosub is finished!

The last update of Gosub. I can't add any more things because I only have 4 bytes left until I'd have to make it an 8k game, and I'm not going to do that just for a few extra minor features. I put in an infinite lives cheat (press up at the title screen). Also added a few more screens and fixed a bit of code in the practice mode. To get to the practice mode, at the title screen, make the left difficulty switch be A and press fire. To exit the practice screen, flip the reset switch. There might b

Put off the suffering...

I was originally going to have all my wisdom teeth pulled out on the 23rd. Yesterday, I recieved a call from the dentist's office saying the dentist was not going to be in that day. It was a message (I was on the internet and I have dial-up), so I told mom (she's the one that's going to take me), and now it's set for November 6th. They originally wanted November 2, but that's my birthday and decided that would be a cruel thing to do to me (good for them.). A really interesting coincidence is tha

KATU vs. KTWO

I've been AM DXing for a little over 6 months now. The farthest away station I've got from Oregon is a station in Casper, Wyoming call letters KTWO. They pronounce it K-2. What's the problem? None, except for an ABC affiliate up in Portland, Oregon's call letters are KATU. They also pronounce it K-2. It's weird that there are 2 K-2s in the nation. Should look up KTOO and see if that's a station, too. Updated Gosub with SFX and 2 more screens. I hope to add a few more screens and a trial mode ver

Gosub

After the disappointment of not being able to program Zoop for bBasic, here's a little (so far) program I'm working on "cleverly" titled Gosub. Guide the submarine to the treasure, but if you touch the sides, you lose a chance. You have 5 chances for every level. Level 2 in this build will obviously be later in the game. If you feel like it, you can design your own levels and reply to this and I'll use them if they're good enough and not too hard. BTW, using no_blank_lines has a weird effect in

Zoop for bBasic?

Here's a question: Is Zoop possible with Batari BASIC? I wrote this tiny demo demonstrating how the color of the ship can change, but I need to know more about how to erase a block that's been shot at, and adding more blocks in order to continue this. Here's the program and the code. If you look at the code, you'll notice that I used pfcolors and set a permanent pattern that doesn't go away. I don't know the first thing about erasing and adding blocks, so it's just natural that I did it this way

Top 10 list for Mid-October 2006

Since I've been getting so many 2600 games in the mail, I decided to start doing this twice a month. Here goes:   1. Grand Prix 2. Bowling 3. Freeway 4. Dig Dug 5. Frogger 6. Moon Patrol 7. Jr. Pac-Man 8. Pole Position 9. Video Pinball 10. Realsports Football   The mighty Grand Prix is once again atop the list. Debuting are Dig Dug, Moon Patrol and Jr. Pac-Man.

Stayed at my Dad's last night

First we went to Skippers for dinner. That's the thing about my dad, he takes me to all these restaurants, it's like he's fattening me up for no good reason. And then he orders stuff and he can't eat it all and I have to finish his food for him. That posed a big problem when we went to Marie Callendar's for breakfast and he put way too much stuff on his plate. I helped a little, but I ate way too much food and I don't think I'll eat anything else today. Then we went back to his apartment. He s
