Adventures with a new MP3 player

Well, I bought one. I think RCA is a dependable brand, so that's what I went with. It holds up to 680 songs it says. It says to charge it up for three hours before using it for the first time, so that's what it's doing right now. If you want to get technical, the product number is M4002. I was hoping for a black one, but this one is dark blue and white, which I can live with. So now I finally have one of these things. Now, once it's done charging, the real fun begins: Trying to put songs on to t

Ghosts I-IV

I bought the latest Nine Inch Nails album. (That's right, bought, as opposed to download, which would take me forever using a dial-up modem.) Trent doesn't sing at all in this 2-disc set of instrumental songs. I think it's money well spent. I like the songs. Just imagine "With Teeth" or the album after that with no lyrics and you get Ghosts. Hopefully, enough people will buy/download it to warrant another Ghosts set. Would anyone be interested in a monthly magazine made by me of 15 7x7 crosswor

Didjest

Still no new words about the Didj, except the April Fools' Day joke I put up. My website will have its own print magazine, a black & white quarterly called "the Didjest". It'll have news, reviews, previews, etc. The first issue will have pictures of what comes in with the box, pics of cartridges and stuff, possibly next to rulers to show the size of the stuff. Here's a sneak peek of the covers of issues 1 and 2. I've just gotten started on issue 1 (two pages, and waiting for the handheld to

Fred

My mom got me 5 blank tapes yesterday (I'm surprised they still make them. I guess it's to support people like me who just got a new tape recorder. They sell those new, too.) Well, anyway, I was wondering what to do with ten hour-long tapes, and then it hit me: One ten-hour-long song. But what could I call a ten-hour-long song? "Fred", of course. The idea of a ten-hour-long song isn't as new as you might think. The longest song ever released is "Somnium" by Robert Rich. Released in 2001, this ma

What's next

Well, most of the family got together to celebrate my Dad's 64th birthday last night. Amazingly, nobody sang "When I'm 64" to him. We went to McGrath's, a popular seafood place based in Salem, but has locations all over the West coast. We all sat around trying to think of names for my sister's second child. There were a whole bunch of crazy ideas, none taken seriously, although she does like the name Nolan. I also suggested Shigeru after Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario. Shigeru Miller doesn'

1994: A good year for NES games

Also the last year for NES games. The last NES game was Wario's Woods, released in December. Since there seems to be a lot of disagreement over which games were released in 1994, I'm going by what Nintendo themselves say in their pdf file on their website, which means this:   Alfred Chicken - February Bonk's Adventure - January Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers 2 - January Flinstones: Surprise at Dinosaur's Peak - August Incredible Crash Dummies - August Jungle Book - August Mega Man 6 - M

Rant about comics

Does anyone ever read Luann? Well, I have a bone to pick about that one. The guy who draws it sometimes goes weeks without showing her. This is one of those times. He's been spending the last two weeks on a story about Luann's brother and his girlfriend. And the last few Sundays, it's been gags involving Luann's parents. Mind you, the comic is named "Luann", but we haven't seen hide nor hair of her since sometime in March. You know, I have a comic named "Jessica," and she's been in EVERY comic s

It's incredible!

...apparently. I went downtown and bought an Incredible String Band CD. It's called "Hard Rope and Silken Twine." What attracted me was the song 'Ithkos' which is 19 minutes long. I added it to my long song collection. I'm thinking of buying an iPod-like thing to store all these long songs on. Of course, I couldn't put the ones I have on vinyl on it, but still, I think it's a pretty cool idea. I like the song. When I was researching the CD, Wikipedia said they were a "Scottish psychedelic folk b

TV Crossword #3

Does anyone ever do these? I won't quit making them because I enjoy it, but am just wondering. C'mon, there must be at least a few people who do crosswords on this forum. And I made a mistake in yesterday's blog. My dad is turning 64 on April 1, not 65. Sorry, Dad!

The least wonderful time of the year

As i've told in previous blogs around this time, I don't like this time of year. Yes, April Fools' Day is coming up. It's not that I don't have a sense of humor, but I tend to take things too seriously and get really mad as to finding out it is only an April Fools' Day joke. That, and I think it's a stupid holiday. But at least there's one good thing about it, it's my Dad's birthday. He turns 65 on April 1. So, I'll give him a call, and on the weekend after that, I think we're taking him out to

I can't think of a title

My sister is going to have a baby again. It's due in September. While for many it would be a joyous occassion, it isn't for me because I have an intense fear of babies. And I'm not kidding, either. I hate them. They're ugly and icky and stinky and stupid and loud. Of course, everyone else that knows about it likes the idea. I mean, she hasn't told Dad and Grandpa yet, apparently the only people that know are her, me, mom, her boyfriend and her daughter. And, it did snow earlier tonight, but onl

Let It Sleet?

Well, FOX 12 is saying it will snow between a trace and 1 inch tonight. The Weather Channel disagrees, saying rain and 35. This morning @ about 7 am, it sleeted (slit? slat?) for a tiny bit and then stopped. After I stayed up all night seeing if it was going to snow. It never did, even though the Weather Channel's radar said it was. I swear, either their radar's broken or they put the Salem dot in the wrong place. The Blazers' woes continue...

I started a Blazers fansite, which you can view here. It's called "The Blazers Suck!" because, well, they do. I might have to change the title of it next season when Oden comes in, though. If the Blazers actually make the playoffs next year, I'll change the title of it to "The Blazers Don't Suck." I promise. Well, anyway, how could you not call a team sucky after losing to the second-worst team in the NBA? That's right, folks. The Blazers lost to Seattle last night. Ugh. What's even more infuria

Videos!

I'm making a site of local videos. Four of them are links to YouTube videos I posted, and the fifth is the one featured on the "Does this work" topic. I originally was going to ask the companies who made the videos permission, but after not hearing back from the guy who runs the Willamette Queen sternwheeler, I said "to heck with it" and just posted it on today, along with a very unintentionally funny ad for the Salem-Keizer Transfer Station. So that's my Easter present for all of you. See, the

I shaved my moustache off. I figured it had a good run, but I couldn't get hair to grow in the middle of it near where my nose was. So I figured it looked stupid and I shaved it off. The only person I've told is Mom (I live with her anyway), but it's not really a big huge shocking secret I have to keep, though. I got an early Easter present: Tetris Evolution for XBox 360. It's not as good as the classic versions of Tetris, though, but it's something else to do for my 360 besides Beautiful Katam

Facial hair and politics.

I'm trying to grow a beard. It's not going too well. It just looks like I haven't shaved in a while. It must be because I'm only 25 years old. I thought a beard would go well with my moustache. This beard is making my face itch, so I may just give up and shave to keep my sanity. Anyway, Oregon has Obama fever. he's visiting Oregon, which is kind of a big deal because our primary isn't until May 20th! So what is he doing here two months before the primary? Anyway, channel 2 (KATU) is airing his

Feeling a little sad

Well, I finally got around to mailing a couple of DVDs at the post office. We live kind of close to the main one, and when we arrived, the parking lot was full, so we had to park on a nearby street. Once we finally walked to the parking lot, there were empty spaces. Figures. The line was long, I usually thought that Tuesday would be better than Monday, but apparently it makes no difference. Anyway, I got two Lynx games in the mail, and wouldn't you know it, the sealed one is broken. It won't pla

Assessing my drawing skills

I think I've never had the skill or talent to draw very well. Nevertheless, it's been almost two years since one of my first webcomics ("Jessica") has been on the internet. I think now is the time to assess how I've been drawing her and other characters in the strip. And, I think while the general design has been nice and easy to draw, I thought it badly needed to be updated (which will be quite a challenge to draw.) I spent almost ten minutes perfecting the new design. I've added bangs, lighten

My current-gen console.

I now have a current-generation console. The winner is...X-Box 360. Maybe I went a little overboard in this morning's blog, but I do think that Nintendo is shooting itself in the foot by not making enough Wiis to fit the demand. I went to Fred Meyer (a local dept. store) and there was a sign saying "Wiis out of stock." (duh!), so I went with the bare-bones X-Box 360 Live Arcade version and a copy of Beautiful Katamari. Total cost: $320. I sure hope this thing lasts for a while, as I've been hear

Nintendo sucks

OK, I've given up on getting a Wii because it doesn't exist. So I am going to get me either an Xbox 360 or PS3. I bet I can at least find ONE for sale. Nintendo sucks. It's been a year and a half and there are no Wiis anywhere. I wish I could say the Wii doesn't suck, but how should I know? I haven't played one yet, and I never will because Nintendo is stupid enough to make like three of them worldwide and then quit production forever. And then they sell their games in commercials, but you can't

Various crazy ideas

First off, I think it would be cool to have an radio station that plays nothing but Christmas songs...all year long. I'd start one, but I have no idea how to start a radio station. That, and it would probably be very expensive. Right now I'm listening to Christmas songs. I think it's weird that Christmas is the only holiday that has its own type of song. So I'm going to write some Halloween carols. Second, I was going through some various stuff when I stumbled upon my pog collection. Rememb

2 new games

I got Pengo and Secret Quest for the 2600 in the mail today, courtesy of combat16 (thank you!). When I went out to get the mail, it began to rain, so I had to hurry in quick. Now my 2600 total stands at 203. And I want more. I'll be putting up an ad in the wanted forum soon. Oh, and don't forget to participate in the Lynx HSC. This week is Rygar, so fire up your Lynx and send me your best scores!

TV Crossword #2/Lynx stuff

C'mon and vote for the first game in my new Lynx HSC!   I'm going to send away for 2 Lynx games on Monday: Ninja Gaiden 3 and Pit Fighter. I'd really like Checkered Flag, but nobody seems to have it for <$20. Do you? So, right now I have 43 games. This next purchase will make it be 45.   And here's another TV Crossword. I know these aren't the most popular things in my blog, but I like making them. Also, here's the answer to the last one (=indicates black spot) =TIE=MILAN=== NADA=AVE=

I don't know about you, but i like commercials. The only reason I watch the Super Bowl is to see the commercials (unless the Seahawks are playing in it.) So, I was at Best Buy and saw a 2-disc set of commercials from the 50s-70s, and I bought it. It was only <$8, all the more reason to. And there is some pretty disturbing things on here. Like Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble lighting up Winston cigarettes, or how about Mr. Indian crying because we've trashed his land with garbage? Or multiple
